>>Has anyone had luck checking in before the official 3pm time?
If not, is there anywhere to change and hang out by the pool until check-in time?<<

Yes, our last visit, we checked in at 1030. The resort was not busy at the time.:)

If you can't get your room, ask the bellstand to check your luggage until the room is ready.

yes, we are still in Naples. Hubby retired a little over 2 years ago and we decided to stay so our son could finish out his dance training. We figure 3 more years. :crazy2:

Things here are about the same as they always have been. The pollution is terrible, the driving is crazy and it is terribly expensive. I just hope we don't have another ugly garbage strike as we did last year.

The weather has been rotten. More rain than we have had in decades (according to the old folks). They are showing the landslides on the news this morning. I don't think the ground can hold much more water. The streets are becoming dangerous as a person can lose an entire Smart car in some of the potholes. Impossible to repair the roads if it never stops raining. We did have a few days of 60+ weather and that made everything think it was spring....one month early. I hope this does not mess up things for later as it can't decide if it wants to be really cold or nice and warm.

Hope you are enjoying America. Although I will miss the food here, I can't wait to go back home to American luxuries. I think 8 years here is more than enough time, as you would know.

There is nothing worse than a rainy Naples, everything just seemed so bleak when it rained. However, once spring hits it is wonderful to be there....or on the outskirts (I love Amalfi and Capri in the spring). I heard about the garbage strikes and saw some pictures, I can't even imagine. I also saw pictures of the old det at Agnano and the hospital in Pouzzouli (sp??) and can't believe how run down it all has gotten since everything moved out to Gricigano (sp???). I spent almost 9 years in Italy (although not all in Naples) so I know what it is like when you are missing the American luxuries! My husband was trying to convince me he should take a contract job over there, but I am perfectly happy right where I am. I agreed to go for our anniversary in 2011 though as I miss the food and the travel.

We arrived around 1pm and had the choice of taking a room that was available right away, or waiting for a different location. We left our bags with bell services and went to a grocery store for snacks. There are restrooms near the lobby where you could change and head to the pool if you wanted to. :thumbsup2

Hi All, would someone point me to any additional information for eligibility for DOD civilian employees.

My BIL was a NSA (DOD) employee and was previously allowed to stay at Shades of Green. He since then has switch to work for a contractor however still works at NSA. He has a NSA id badge and CWF card which is a Civillian Welfare Fund card (whatever that means). His boss said he wasn't sure and the details from the SOG site aren't exactly clear. Just wondering is anyone here knows. Thanks for any help! The resort looks beautiful so I hope they can stay there.

I'd call Shaded directly. We could tell you one thing but be totally wrong.

Definitely call SOG directly to ask about your specific situation.
My hubby is a DOD contractor permanently assigned to a military installation. He is required to get a letter stating his assignment from the base commander, along with his CAC to bring for check-in.

Thanks to all for the quick replies regarding early check-in.
Everyone on this board is very helpful!

Has anyone heard anything final about Evergreens? the date for closing has come and gone.

DH is going down Saturday (we're joining him next Thursday down there). I'll call him once he gets in and find out what's going on.

We got there about 1p and had a short line to check-in and room was ready (early December), don't think they were maxed out which no doubt had something to do with it.

Any one know if Evergreens is now closed? Hopefully someone will post a trip report soon!

Hoping someone can report back on Evergreens! I could give SOG a call, but it would nice to hear from someone that has recently stayed there.

Thanks!

Will be at SOG on February 21. Planned on eating at Evergreens, so I will ask and post something when I hear.

So can we visit SOG and eat at the restaurants, shop the commissary, etc. if we are not guests? We're staying at all star music but wonder if the food over the there will be better and a better price.

I was wondering if anyone knows whether retired DOD are able to book rooms at SOG, and what they need to show. My parents would qualify if so, and could use the break. Of course, I would love the opportunity to stay there too.....

I don't think so. I think these things are for guests only and truthfully, why would you want to?? the food sucks. l ol.

You would have to show a valid military ID to get onto Shades property, and also to make a purchase in the AAFES store. And unless you have a car, it would not be easy to get there.
