Official September 2012 planning thread! List on page 30!

I have a question for you. When I booked this trip, it didn't really dawn on me that I would be pulling my son from school. Then when I found out he would be missing school, it didn't really bother me, but as we get closer, I'm starting to worry about it a bit more. I know it's not a HUGE deal since he is only in 1st grade and he does well, but I guess I just don't know how to handle it. What do I tell the teacher? I feel more justified because we are going with my sister and her family (my kids don't know this yet) and they live in a different state so we don't see them too often, but the mommy guilt is starting to get to me. Any advice or words of wisdom?

No kids here so don't know how valuable my advice is... but you could always make the trip a learning experience... ask the teacher for advice on ways to keep up. She (he) may even give him a project to do to count for school... never hurts to ask.

I am not worried about them making up the work at all

I thought about that, but to be honest, I don't want to worry about doing school work or keeping up with my sons school work while on vacation. When we go to Disney, we kinda go full force. So while I feel like I should ask if there is any work he can do, I don't really want the answer, haha!

I agree, we spend alot of money to go on this trip. I dont want to spend my time doing school work. I think at the younger grades is not that much.

Thanks! That makes me feel a bit relieved. I tend to over think things. I know it will probably go "We're going to Disney World" "Oh, okay, have a good time", but in my head it goes like this:

ME-"We're going on a trip to walt disney world"
TEACHER-"Ooooohhh, weeeellll, Jackson will be missing quite a bit....."
ME- "I understand but we will be able to see his aunt and uncle and cousin"
TEACHER- "well, if you have to, I guess i understand" :sad2:rolls eyes and dirty look like i'm the worst mom in the world, then I leave feeling guilty and avoiding the teacher for the next few weeks.

Yup, this is the craziness that goes on inside my head. I over stress everything, haha :scared:

I took my boys out of school when they were 1st and 3rd grade and now they are 20 & 22 and the 22 year old just graduated from college on the Deans List, so it didn't make a difference at all. This year we are taking our DD out for a week and she is in 5th grade. Don't feel guilty at all. Family is a precious thing and as long as the teacher knows ahead of time and can prepare for him not being there, it's all good. Go and enjoy!

YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I stress over everything. I have changed my ADRS so many time, I have changed my rental car 3 times. My DH is at the point that if I talk disney plans one more time, he is not going to go with us. I stress over what we will wear on what day, what tiem to get up so that we all get ready and so on. School I am not worried about, first they will not kick my kid out of school and they are not missing a full week, 1/2 a week the first week 1/2 of week the second so it should not be that bad. And if you get a dirty look, then she is just jealous that she is not gonig with to WDW :lmao:

This is my first post on this thread, but just had to let you know I've had the exact same imaginary conversation in my head! We are pulling our kids out for the first time (K and 2nd) and I am feeling a little anxious to let the school know. They are only missing 3 days, but it still feels like I am going to be in trouble or something. Maybe I'll get sent to the principal's office. :lmao:

I'm pulling my DD out of first grade, too. I will ask the teacher to give us the work that she misses. We won't do it at Disney, but we will do it when we get home. To me, that's just part of the price you pay for missing school. My parents took me out a ton as a kid and I always made up my work. Of course, the workload that the teacher sends home is tiny compared to what they actually do in school.

I told the teachers last night(1st and 3rd grade). I just simply told them they would be out the last week of September and that I would fill them in on the details via email. I still am a nervous wreck, but I made a decision and I am sticking by it.

I also am pulling my daughters from school. They are in 1st and 8th grade. School hasnt started yet, but I will let the teachers know that we will be on vacation for that time period.

My kids will just make up the work they missed when we get back. So far, every teacher my children have had, has been understanding about letting them make up the work.:)

Ask ahead of time so he can do it before you go or in the car/on the plane...(this coming from a former teacher who is also pulling my son out of kindergarten for a week)

I am taking my 11 yr old out of his special needs school & my 16 yr. old out too, for 4 days. I was a teacher for 13 yrs. I do not feel quilty at all. My kids, my decision. :-) Hope you all have a wonderful time.

I'm pulling out a 7th 5th and 1st grader last week of September. I pulled them out last year as well. We make up the work, the kids do well in school I don't much care. Nothing is excused in our school except drs excuses anymore so they can't say much

I feel guilty pulling my kids out of school (2nd & 7th)...and we homeschool!! Lol!

But really, PA is a very restrictive state with a lot of paperwork, and i worry about what it will look like to our evaluator and superintendent when they see we took 2wks off at the very beginning of the year. We're doing YES classes at WDW and also visiting historic areas in St Augustine, so i can log some of it as field trips, and we'll make up the lost days later in the year. I still worry, but at least I don't have to face a snarky teacher. ;)

Julirina, you're in central Pa. So am i! :)
Whereabouts are you located?

Well, how did online check-in work out for you today? I could not stop smiling thinking that you had a dream about checking in. :)

Great! I like that you can make specific room requests now. Only thing that "went wrong" was it said "cannot add you special request/even at this time". I called to make sure they still had our specific longhouse request and they sure did! Now for the long 10 day wait!!

Just checking in leaving in less than 48 hours. Actually we will be just about landing in 48 hours. I can't believe we leave on Friday. Just need to get threw the rest of today and tommorow.

Just a FYI if it hasn't been posted but there is a bounceback for FD. For the dates of 8/17 or 18 threw 9/28 2013. I'm going to book the last 2 weeks in August. Last year the BB nothing was exclueded so hopefully we can get into AOA standard room. Fd is the best deal for us. I also cancled our one adr. It was at H&V so dd could meet Jake. I didn't relize we could meet him near the disney junior show. SO I cancled it. Plus with the weather up in the air but I'm not stressed about it. I know some are but we always seem to go threw this every year. I'm use to it by now. LOL

Doing my SW check in tommorow. Hopefully I remeber to watch the clock and get it done. I want to be in a seating.
