Official Seattle information thread Updated 5/28/2014-Oso update

Whats the cheapest and most convenient way to get here from the airport?

As usual those terms are mutually exclusive. The cheapest way is to walk, followed by the light rail and then transferring to the #54 bus downtown, followed by a taxi, and then a limo.

Thanks for sharing the link, Mellers! What a great deal. I'll have to look at the dates to see if they are valid when we'll be there and show my DH. It looks like a lot of fun. You're the best!

Can anyone comment on plans to take light rail from the airport to the Mayflower Park hotel?

Is this doable with some luggage, or is there too much walking involved? Also which stop would we get off at?

We are staying at the Mayflower Park Hotel, before our cruise on June 8-11 and are planning on taking the light rail to the hotel from the airport. There is a walkway straight from the airport to the light rail station and then the stop you would get off of at Westlake Station, and it is a very short walk to the hotel like (0.1 of a mile or less). We are going to have 2 large roller bags, 1 small roller bag, camera bag, and shoulder bag, and we think it should be fine for us. We are just 2 people though. We live in NC so I can't speak as a local, but from what I've heard it seems like it wouldn't be a problem...and that's what we are planning to do :) Hope that helps! :goodvibes

I'm a local and you're absolutely right.

I made this recommendation for people who wanted to visit both American Girl Place and Downtown Seattle without renting a car.

Upon further reflection, I would add one more class of people to this: Die-hard Chihuly fans. Lincoln Square in Downtown Bellevue has a large Chihuly sculpture installed. If you go there, eat at Maggiano's--it's wonderful.

Just be aware that you won't find anything more intense than class 3 rapids on the Upper Skagit. That is perfect for a first time or for kids, but if you are an adrenaline junkie it will leave you wanting.

Thanks for the responses, sounds like the light rail should work out great.

I have taken the light rail from the airport before and it is quite easy to use. Take the elevator up to the parking garage from baggage claim, the east end, then take the walkway over to the station. I only have about 25 % moblity in my right leg it it was no problem for me with a rolling bag and carry on.

NWDad.

I just noticed something shockingly absent from this thread. During the entire time the Wonder will be sailing out of Seattle this year, and continuing until January 6th of next year, an exhibit of artifacts from the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun (typically referred to as King Tut) will be on display at the Pacific Science Center.

The Pacific Science Center is fascinating to visit on any normal day, but this exhibit will be particularly worthwhile if you are interested in ancient Egypt. If you want to go on a weekend day, I would strongly recommend buying tickets before you come out here or you may find they are sold out for the day you want to visit. That has happened to me with other touring displays they have hosted, even though I am a member!

If you are a member of another science center or museum that is an ASTC member, you can get into the Pacific Science Center for free so you'll only need exhibit tickets.
