Hi everyone! I have been lurking in the background for a while now and I finally have a question that I just haven't seen anyone else post. We usually go to WDW the week following Thanksgiving, and this is our first time going in Oct. I'm nervous about it being too busy! I have heard that people are getting discounted upgrades for resorts because the mods/values are too full! Also, there is ZERO flexibility with rooms, everything is booked! We are going Oct 18-26- split stay between CSR & Poly. I've never seen this happen for our Nov/Dec trips. Thoughts?

First off, :welcome: to the boards and to our Oct family! The hotels being booked solid are a little deceiving. While the resorts will be crowded, the parks should be moderate in terms of crowd levels. There are several conferences and the PGA in town for your dates. The Gartner Symposium engulfs many of the EPCOT resorts, so it is possible that EPCOT might be a little busier than normal in the evenings with the F&W festival going on.

I think I'm going to order some of those flexi8 things for DD and myself but I'm also going to order some of these. http://sweatybands.com/ A friend of a friend posted about them on facebook and swears by them. Well I knew her in high school too but she's not on MY friends list. :rotfl: Anyway, my hair is a bit shorter right now so the headband might be best but I don't get it cut very often so I know I could use the flexi8 soon. The problem will just be DD misplacing them. I can't get her to put things away to save my life. There is still a bun wrap sitting in her bathroom from ballet Tuesday night. I have asked her once a day to put it back in her dance bag before it gets lost. I asked very sweetly Tuesday night when she was taking it off. The requests have been getting a little louder and more irate every day. :lmao:

Ok...so those sweatybands sound like they may actually WORK - and I've NEVER found a headband that wouldnt slip off! Now I need at least 3!!! Thanks Parla! :goodvibes

Oh...and I cant stop listening to the SweatyBands Jukebox!:rolleyes1

Ah, Virgo. My daughter, brother, and brother-in-law are all Virgos. *sigh* It is one of the signs I can almost pick out of the crowd, they are that consistent. I can tell you about them myself, but I'll let the pros do it.

Virgo exists in the mind, everything is inside. To the world, Virgo presents a calm and collected exterior but on the inside, nervous uncontrolled intensity in the mind, trying to figure things out, how to improve everything, analyzing and thinking. Virgo can tire itself out without even moving! Virgo has a constant drive to improve and perfect, this can lead to extreme pickiness and finickiest. They are pure, their motives are honest never malicious and they want to accomplish something.

OMG!!! That's scary accurate.

No worries! There are a couple of large conventions going on then, but they shouldn't effect the crowd levels in the parks. Touringplans has your time listed as mostly low crowds (1s, 2s and 3s most of the days! Woot!) so you should be good to go in the parks. :goodvibes

Not sure what this year will be like, but a friend of mine that was there last October said the Parks were nearly empty! :woohoo:

We have mostly gone in September for the past couple of years. In 2006 the crowds were VERY, VERY low, but it's been getting busier and busier in Sept due to the popularity of Free Dining.
In 2008 our trip was the week after Thanksgiving and those crowds were MUCH bigger than Sept (and Oct too, I assume?).

Thanks for welcoming me to the group and for the info! We usually stay at an Epcot resort so maybe it will work out great that we opted for some new adventures this time around! Great insider info! What a relief!

Thanks for this info as well! I have heard a lot about touringplans but I have never really looked into it. So 1s, 2s, and 3s are pretty good!? How exciting!! Touringplans requires a subscription right? Is it worth it?

It is only $10 for a year and you get access to their Lines app, which has wait times for all the rides. I'll be using it for the first time in Oct., so I don't know first hand how accurate they are, but I haven't read a single thing where they were way off. Here's to hoping they are right! :drinking1:lmao:

AWESOME!!! What is really great is that our stay is a black out for free dining - so hopefully that helps too. Good to know that Sep was slower than the week after Thanksgiving, we have always been relatively happy with that time of year but it seems to have been getting busier each year we go... hopefully Oct is really similar to your Sept stays!! Thanks!

working on the list now, if there are any changes, please PM me and if you are new to the DISboards, just post here since you are not able to PM. :)

The list is up to date as of now. Please check your info and make sure it is correct, if it is not please PM me.

:welcome: to all the newbies to the thread! I see a lot of the "Octobies" (yes I have nicknamed us, lol, if you have a better one let me know) have welcomed you with open arms. Pull up a seat and make yourself comfy and get to know us as we get to know you, we have a great group of people here on this thread, I consider them all friends and disfamily. Now that our time is coming the board seems to be hopping and I love it! :lovestruc:yay::woohoo::love:

I have to work this weekend, so any changes and additions will take place next week.

Ooooo but making them is so much fun!!!!!!!!!!

Following the directions from a thread here on the DIS, these are a couple of the shirts I made last year. It's SOOOOOO cool to have your group wear them because everyone stops to comment and compliment!

They are super cute, great job! I see me failing when it comes to that and I'm such a perfectionist. Still not 100% sure I'm going to give up yet, but need to decide soon, the weather will be turning soon and that's definitely an outdoor activity. : )

Shannon, where did you order your Mickey Tye Dye shirts from? Wanted to make some, but I've never done Tye Dye before and the thought of messing up the Mickey one's scares me!

I can PM or email the info to you if you want. I'm not crafty enough or organized enough to make my own tie dye shirt, so I am buying them already done.

I bought the shirts to make our tye dye shirts since I was making an iron on for DH's birthday but still need to order the dye.

Now I am going to have to purchase the sweaty bands too. LOL. DD needs those for cheerleading practice. Anyone else have any neat gadget websites?

Welcome!! :cheer2: Will you be at the Poly the first or second half of your stay? We'll be there the last full week in Oct. We have gone in Dec as well and also in July :scared1: and this will be our first time in October. Other than the party, which I expect to be a little crowded because it's closer to Halloween (although still a weeknigh) and during a free dining week, I don't think it'll be that bad. As everyone said there are many conventions going on, so the resorts are booked. the CR was booked LAST October for THIS October! That's where we originally were looking and couldn't get it. Now I know why!! The Veep is going to be speaking there the 29th for that convention. That would've been a nightmare for us to stay there and try and get DD there for a nap that day!

OMG!!! That's scary accurate.

This is what I'm saying. Virgos - you are all alike. :lmao:

Thanks!! We will be at CSR 18-22 and Poly 22-26 - same time as you! We had hoped that we could have stayed at Poly the entire time but the availability wasnt there by the time we realized we had enough pennies in the bank account to upgrade:headache: I can't believe how far in advance these resorts are booking for October! Both Poly and CSR are pretty spread out so it shouldn't be too much of a worry if we are all packed in like sardines . I'm really optimistic about the crowds in the parks thanks to all of the help from you guys today!

This is what I'm saying. Virgos - you are all alike. :lmao:

Amen to that! :rotfl:My mother and DH are both Virgos, and they are scary similar. Of course, I'm a Scorpio (the best sign if I do say so myself :lmao:) and I think most of the descriptions on that sign are accurate too.

Found those Clean & Clear oil sheets at Target yesterday. Woohoo- oil free @ WDW! :rotfl:It's the little things, ya know? :thumbsup2

I'd love to do those (or purchase some) Disney tie dye shirts, but I'm pretty sure my DH wouldn't go for that. He thinks dressing the kids and/or us alike is stupid. They are so darn cute, though!

Keep checking for that 'Ohana ADR for 8. No such luck so far. Kind of think I'm just going to give up on it for now and stick with the split dining plan I have booked (Dad, DH and kids @ 'Ohana, Mom and I are Chefs). Has anyone eaten dinner at Chefs and liked it? This will be new for us. The Prix Fixe menu looks good.

Sending positive thoughts to those of you in the path of Hurricane Irene.
