I am wondering if we are better off waiting a month or two to get the air tickets or will they just go up even more?
I really want to get a nonstop flight out of pgh so that might be the only reason I might buy now rather than waiting. I wish airtran had the oct fares outs last week b/c the tickets were around 250 roundtrip for the end of sept now they are 337.

I'm being super indecisive about MNSSHP. At first we said "no" because DD is only 2 and we couldn't justify the cost (even though we'd be paying just for me & DH).

But DD goes to bed at 8 p.m... special days (like over Christmas) we've stretched to 9 p.m., but she's a complete disaster the next day.

WWYD???

How old will she be in October? My daughter stayed out til 11:30 in October and she was a newly 3 year old (Sept 6 is her b'day and we went Oct 28). We were up early to hit the park, took a nice long afternoon break before returning and she was going strong right up until 11:30! The next day we did Animal Kingdom and took it slow!

I read today on Southwest's site that Oct. flights and fares will be released on March 14.

Our family is actually driving to WDW in October, but my grandparents will be flying and I am on the lookout for inexpensive flights for them. Unfortunately, Southwest is usually our best option as AirTran and JetBlue don't fly out of SDF. :confused3

For the past 5 years we have gone in September and I normal book my flights in June/July and have paid about 80-100 each way for 3 people. I am on the fence this year as to book. Airtran should be releasing their Oct fares mid month. The only thing that makes me nervous about Airtran is that they changed their flight times. At this time they have flights (through the begining of Oct) leaving at 5:45 p.m. If that is the case we are going to leave the night before but if they change the time it will completely mess everything up.

I am hoping to get the earliest flight out on sunday morning. For sept they have a 7am flight. I hope they keep it for Oct. If not I might consider leaving the night before.

She'll be a couple months shy of 3 (bday is Dec. 31)... the latest she's ever stayed up was about 10:00. I'd suppose it would be more doable if I knew we had a nice long nap in the middle of the day for her to rest up but I have no clue whether she'll nap while we're there. It'll be the first time she's slept outside of her bed & the first time we've been on vacation so I don't know how it'll all go.

I doubt tickets will sell out for the early October dates... maybe I'll hold out as late as I can and see how late she can stay up when she's closer to 3 than she is 2.

Thanks!

Booked our flights this morning with Jet Blue  I could not sleep and got up at 4am

I was pleasantly surprised to see the fares were reasonable and very happy that my credit covered both fares (DH and myself). I did pay for travel insurance OOP as it was cheaper than what Disney offers, I figured for $39 for both of us it was worth it for the peace of mind, ya just never know

Now just need those October Park Hours and MNSSHP dates

What are your travel dates? I booked our flights this morning too - but out of Hartford instead of our usual, Boston. I could get cheaper flights through Delta going out of Boston, but would have had to pay for baggage. I figure the extra hour to Hartford is worth the free bag and tv for DD!

:banana::cool1:WOO HOO!!! :cool1::banana: WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY!!! :banana::cool1:

:dance3:

Oct 19 to Oct 25, I checked Hartford too but decided to go with HPN since we rather take the earlier flight down, and we could get a return flight that will allow us to pick up our dog at the kennel saving a buck by not having to board her an extra night.
Although Hartford was a lill cheaper but I have noticed they are always a little lower. The drive is about the same for us whether we go to Hartford or HPN 55-60 mins.

Where'd you get trave insurance through?? I've never purchased it before but am considering it for this trip. I just know NOTHING about it, what it covers, whether Disney's offer is the best or not...

I bought the travel insurance on the Jet Blue site while I was purchasing my tickets this am, I downloaded the documents but still need to read them over since it did say you have 10 days to cancel. I have never bought it before either but for $39 I figured it was worth it for the peace of mind, "just in case"

For those of you interested, I have MNSSHP info and pics in my 2009 TR! We went both times we went to WDW (well, my dd and I went twice) and LOVED it! We'll go again this year as well! If any of you are doing a PTR for this trip, let me know, I would love to follow you! I have one going...what can I say, I'm a planning fanatic!
so reading your TR now! i've been looking for October TR's to read!

Not sure if we're going to do MNSSHP. :confused3

DD will be 2.5 and though I know she'd like it, she's usually in bed by 8 p.m. Sure, it's vacation and she'll stay up later than usual but I just don't think she'll be able to last long enough to make the cost of the tickets worth it for us.

But I'm waffling because I TOTALLY want to go!!
We took my son to MVMCP twice already and he is only 3.5. He went when he was 2 and 3. We made it until 11:30pm both nights. He was tired by the end, but didn't fall asleep. We even waited and saw the second parade at 10:30 and he loved it and stayed up. We just make sure we take it easy on the party day. If we do a park that day, we do RD and make sure we are back in the room early enough to take like a 3hour break so he can have a really good nap and then just relax in the room some. Then we head out to the party about 5 or 6 (we have APs, so no need to rush over). He did pretty well, but then again, he doesn't go to bed until 8:30pm at home (sleeps untl 7am).

Man, I've been getting so anxious for the time to go past so that vacation can get here!

Then I just realized today that the plan is to be newly pregnant with #2 when we go on vacation (start TTC end of August)... and now it seems like the time's going too quick! :scared1:

We definitely want a #2 and don't want to wait too much longer because I don't want the age gap to be too large, but man, I'm already having guilt & anxiety over it all!
woo hoo! wishing you lots of luck! We are about to start TTC again too. William is now 3.5 and we want a second. We went through a few years of fertility issues (unexplained) with him, so I anticipate more of the same, but we will see. Maybe we will get lucky with some pixie dust this time and not have to resort to IVF again. But I am hoping against all hope that I will be preggers on this October trip. If not, hopefully shortly after. wishing you lots of luck!

So what is everyone doing from now until ADR time comes up to prepare for the trip. I read the disboards. DD and I read books on what to do, just for fun and helps her with her reading. I also pay weekly on the trip and going to have it paid off just in time to start booking my adr's.

How about everyone else?
Going crazy. :rotfl: I am on the disboards way too much (see post count!). I love reading trip reports, i have my own PTR (see my signature for link- come by and say hi). I also have my disney 'box' where i keep all the stuff for our trip i buy all year- rain ponchos, toys for my son, toiletries etc. Plus i plan like a crazy person with my huge excel spreadsheet, must dos, etc. Then I change them, and change them again. We are also going to start doing a disney movie night once a month with my family with themed food and games. There is a thread on the community board of some fabulous ideas with pics. We also do a countdown calendar about 3 months out for my son to put a sticker on each day! I have a June trip to the Smokey Mtns with the entire family and then a Vegas work trip that I will extend a few days for fun (DH's 40th bday) in August, so planning both of those too helps.

I need all of you October and MNSSHP veterans to help me out. $$ will be tight for us this trip (that's why I held out on posting until it was booked) and so I hadn't planned on doing MNSSHP. I have trouble justifying the expense for glorified trick-or-treating. I know there is so much more than the dressing up and the candy, but I guess I just have sticker shock: :eek: Is anyone else out there in the same boat as me or am I the minority? :confused3 For those that have done MNSSHP and continue to do it year after year, what makes it worth the $$ for your family?

Btw...the trip will be me, my boyfriend, my 4yo DS, my mother and my grandparents. It will be the 1st trip for my boyfriend and DS but the rest of us have all been multiple times, but never done MNSSHP. Any opinions/advice about MNSSHP would be GREATLY appreciated!
We haven't done MNSSHP, but we've done MVMCP many times, including the past two Decembers. I hear MNSSHP is better than the Christmas one, so I can't wait. We love the fact we get extra hours in the park, the amazing special fireworks, special characters and shows and more. I hear the parade is simply one of the best Disney puts on- i can't wait to see it. You can't see the parade i think except at the party. Same for the Hallo-wishes fireworks, unless they show it on actual halloween to the public (like they do with the Christmas ones- they start showing it to the public the week of Christmas).

With shorter park hours in the fall, we find the party is a great way to get in more time at the park. the MK will close at 7pm on party nights to non party guests, which means you won't have many chances for a late night at the MK, unless they offer late hours on a saturday or EMH and if they do, it is super crowded since everyone goes that night. We like having a night to see all the extras, in fact the trick or treating is exciting, but it is only one of many things we are excited about. just the atmosphere of all the guests dressed up and the characters too- so fun!

Plus, you can save by not getting a ticket that day. just buy the party ticket and you can get in at 4pm (usually). spend the am sleeping in, doing a late character breakfast at a resort (chef mickey's, Ohana etc.), explore the resorts, swim, do DTD or whatever and rest up then hit the MK at 4pm. Saves you buying a ticket that day----of course unless you are getting a length of stay ticket or are staying so long that adding that day is only a few bucks anyhow.

Count me in as one of those waiting (im)patiently for October park hours and airline schedules.....
:surfweb::surfweb::surfweb::surfweb:

We will be at BLT from Oct 22-29.:yay:

Typically I feel pretty confident in utilizing last year's park hours to determine our park plans. However, the X-factor in all of that is the MNSSHP. Depending on when Halloween falls, the party dates can vary - especially in the week leading up to the holiday.

Also, when referring to last year's hours - I see that EMH at MK switched to a Saturday for one week (10/23/10) - so MK was open until 3am! I wonder if that was just a one-time adjustment or if we can hope for the same thing this year? My family would LOVE to stay at MK that late!:woohoo:

Waiting for airfare is just excruciating because with every passing day, I see the rates are going up and up and up! :headache:
We are leaving BLT on the 22nd!

I am going crazy waiting for hours. it appears some hours were out as early as mid month last month, so hoping maybe next week we can see something- who knows. I can't make my final plans until i know the hours and EMH days. I usually start off planning using historical hours too- but they have switched up the EMH so often now, you just never know.

I have 2 vouchers on American (we live a few minutes from DFW), but i need to see if we can even use them or not- with all the lovely restrictions they have. I won them at work. Plus i have enough miles for a free ticket too- so hoping our flights will be free. I just checked and the direct flight from DFW to MCO is about $400 on AA for what we want. I used to pay no more than $250 most years. Last year it was $330. I checked SW too (for Sept since oct wasn't out yet) and it was showing as like $400 as well. :confused3:eek:

I have never been at Disney on the actual date of the Anniversary but I would think they would have something to kick off the year of celebration with some special guests maybe :confused3
When i was working during the 25th anniversary (remember the pepto pink castle? yuck!)- they had special press events to celebrate, but it was media only. That was a bigger anniversary though. I don't remember anything else special for the public with any special guests or anything- all that I saw was for the media (and lots of celebrities at that one). I worked the big 25th anniv party they had for the media at the HS that night. But i just don't remember anything else going on. They tend to do more though now than they did 15 years ago.

I'm new- i've been on the other thread, but figured I should do both!!!

oh and i have a PTR if you want to read along
October Pre-Trip Report

Traveling Party

Me - Michelle- turning 38 before our trip. Mom to Will, work full time in Marketing for a software company, WDWCP alum from the Fall 1996 (Hollywood and Vine restaurant), love all things disney- been on these boards for over 10 years, although was a lurker the first 7 years!
DH- Alan, turning 40 in august! Works full time for a REIT- not the biggest disney fan, but actually had the idea to buy DVC after he saw the joy on our son's face after my son's first trip (at 2yo!).
Will- our 3yo son, will turn 4 on October 30th, so going for his bday. He loves disneyworld and has been the past two Decembers. Pretty laid back and flexible kid- love him to pieces!
Us - Celebrating 10 years of marriage in May, together for 18 though. Live right outside Dallas, in Plano, TX. DH bought DVC as our anniv gift last Feb. We own at BLT. Just got APs for the first time in Dec as well as TIW.

Where we are staying

What will we do when we get there
rent a car (we always do), fly AA direct, MNSSHP for the first time (done MVMCP), Food & Wine, take it slow and enjoy our first trip just the 3 of us. Last two December trips were with extended family. Taking Will to Pirates League and hope to maybe do Jedi Academy too.
Planned ADRs:

  • CRT- for breakfast or dinner, whatever we can get- Will is really into watching Cinderella right now, lol! loves singing 'sing sweet nightingale'
  • Teppan Edo dinner (first time)
  • Crystal Palace breakfast (always a must for Will)
  • O'hana breakfast (first)
  • O'hana dinner (a must for us every trip)
  • Mama Melrose (first)
  • Via Napoli lunch or dinner

Oh yes I remember that Birthday Cake Castle I had/have a shirt with that on it around here someplace. I think I was the only one that like it :rotfl:

I hope they do not do something Big or I will regret changeing our reservation.

i figure they will wait to do something big for the 50th. With all the construction they already have going on for the FL expansion etc., I just can't imagine them doing anything like that again anytime soon.

I thought the pink was cool at first, but after seeing it so often, i got tired of it really fast. :rotfl:

Hi as of now we are a group of 3 friends celebrating our bdays at disney. We will be there 10/22-10/29. I am hoping to find a group to do the Illuminations cruise. We would need to book by 4/25/2011. Here is some info..
MAGIC KINGDOM WISHES CRUISE (PREMIUM)
25' Tracker Pontoon

Price: $346.13, tax included for up to 10 guests. Price includes pontoon boat, driver, water, soda, bagged snacks and and audio feed of the fireworks music -Guests may order Private Dining to be delivered to the cruise. The sound from the fireworks show is provided on the boat .

DH will be celebrating his bday while we are on our trip, actually our first night there. We are going to have dinner at Ohana (1st time). I wanted to see if I can get him a chocolate chip cookie cake shaped like mickey or something. It's his fav kind of cake. Anyone know how I go about ordering this, is it even possible?

Congrats on your flights! You're flying out of Westchester? I didn't even think to check that airport! I flew out of there last May and said never again! :rotfl: We paid something like $140 for 5 days of long term parking! Crazy!

I'm kicking myself for buying that one way flight from SW a few weeks ago...Jet Blue has great round trip prices out of Hartford right now for our dates! Oh well! If only I could get a refund for my SW ticket! :confused3

Boston is about and hour and 45 from us, Hartford looks to be about two hours and 45 minutes. I will gladly drive the extra hour to save on fares and baggage fees (Delta was the least expensive out of Boston for our dates, but we would have gotten racked over the coals with baggage fees for the three of us!)
