***Official November 2013***

:welcome:

It's supposed to be modelled around AC. And AC did look like that prior to the casinos being built. I understand the revenue, but you won't catch me in AC at all anymore (unless the Rolling Stones are in concert); it's crime-ridden and "women of the night" are on every corner. If you get off the Boardwalk, all you see is trash and nastiness. No thanks.

But, Ocean City's boardwalk is nice. Expensive, but nice. And Wildwood is ok. I've only ever been to Wildwood last year to take my kids to a waterpark (thank you, Groupon!), but it's also expensive.

I guess that makes sense, I've only been to AC once years ago(and did not care for it) it seemed too "city" to have Disney's BW modeled after it. I always do Wildwood since I have a sister who lives in Cape May. Wildwood is not too big, there's big, free beaches, and we love it!

Didn't I hear that some of last years big storms destroyed a lot of Atlantic City boardwalk? Never been. My family has been a head north beach family.
I'm looking forward to seeing Disney's version. In all the times I've been, I've never been more than a walk through some years ago and it was day time so there was nothing going on. At least nothing I saw.

I'm so glad Disney has some grown up design to it too.

Sorry our plans changed due to free dining. Our new dates are nov 16-21 then a cruise on the dream. Just me and my best friend !

I've been to AC and along the Boardwalk at WDW and I don't see it. I think Disney's is much cleaner and a nicer feel. Perhaps it's the AC of old and not current day. Boardwalk is beautiful, as are many parts of the NJ shore, but I wouldn't really call AC beautiful.

My IL's live near Seaside Heights, NJ (where the MTV show was filmed) and we just returned from there 2 weeks ago. Superstorm Sandy made landfall right in that area. AC is further south and had some damage, but further north took the brunt of it. Remeber the picture of the roller coaster in the ocean? That's Seaside. We drove along the shore and we amazed at all the devastation. There were some huge houses in Mantoloking that were completely wiped out. There is plenty of rebuilding going on, but to see the difference from when we were there 2 years ago to what it looked like 2 weeks ago was amazing.

Yeah, AC is not a good example of a boardwalk nowadays. I believe the Boardwalk resort was modelled after the AC of yesteryear....way prior to casinos. When they built them, the city started sprouting up and became very seedy (just my opinion).

Part of AC's boardwalk was destroyed during Hurricane Sandy....the north part. But, kelleigh is correct, the storm hit more North of AC and destroyed a lot of homes, stores and beaches up that way. One of my very good friends lives in Long Beach Island and it was practically decimated.

I was pretty worried when the storm came North as we had Hurricane Irene hit the year before (and that was very bad for flooding where I live). Hurricane Sandy hurt, but not as bad as Irene. With Irene, I almost lost my furnace and it took two days to pump all the water from my crawlspace. I live along the Delaware River and in a low-lying area. If a storm hits just the right way (like Floyd or Irene), we get screwed. Plus, the way the wind hits the river, it pushes the river water up on the road and in to people's yards. I think I have pics from when Hurricane Sandy did that last year and that is nothing compared to some storms we've seen.

But I count myself lucky, we were hit with water and I was scared of flooding. I didn't loose my house, my children's school or my job like so many people (and many friends) did.

I'll take some pics of the Rehoboth boardwalk next Saturday and you can see what that one looks like. (I think there's also a live webcam for it)

Whoo-hoo!!!!:cool1: Isn't POR just great?! The only reason we're at OKW and not POR right now is because of the room. With OKW, we'll have the full kitchen and hubby & I will have a separate bedroom (which will be really nice).

I'll make the change for you! :thumbsup2

LOL, I just read this post and couldn't figure out why you were so excited about having a separate room from your husband and then I realized you meant that you and your husband would have a separate room together. This is exactly why we love Saratoga Springs Villas, the kitchen and separate bedroom are awesome.

This is Mantoloking, NJ before and immediately after Sandy. I can report that the bridge has since been repaired. And Route 35 is once again open. We actually drove through here a few times a couple weeks ago. And there is a lot of rebuilding going on right here too.

That is too funny. I thought it odd too, but know because of snoring and other things sometimes people do like separate rooms. LOL Glad you cleared that up. I would be doing happy dance too to be in a room separate from the rest of the family travelers. :rotfl:

Having never been to AC, the picture after the storm that was in my mind was the big roller coaster in the water.

Yes, that was Casino Pier in Seaside Heights. It's no longer in the ocean and they've been rebuilding that pier too and some of the rides are actually open. But there is no roller coaster right now. I'm not sure if they are going to put one in or not.

Does anyone know what time Wishes would be on 11/21 and 11/22. MVMCP is those nights and I cannot find the times. They still do Wishes during the Christmas Party, right?
Also, can anyone tell me the name of the show on the steps of Cindy's castle and/or know the times they perform?

Hi everyone,

Newbie to this board -- thanks to all the great info, everyone.

Just booked Pop Century with free quick service dining -- 11/11/13 to 11/22/13. Planning to take it easy with our kids, 3 and 5.

Been to WDW, but this will be the first time with munchkins.

We're looking for any and all tips for quick-service restaurants, POP resort, or park activities / attractions with little ones. (Or anything else WDW-related.)

One question: We've heard you can ship to the resorts, and have things waiting for you, but have also read that USPS gets confused and has trouble delivering because their systems don't recognize WDW addresses. Tempted to order snacks / umbrella stroller off Amazon, but worried that they may never arrive. (And don't want to pay $25 to ship via FedEx/UPS.) Any advice / experience with this?

I believe that Wishes during the parties is at 9:30pm.

I didn't think it was called wishes during MVMCP cause it's a little different than the other nights. Could be wrong. But anyway here is the link to the thread for the 2013 MVMCP. You might find some of your answers there.

LOL it's called Holiday wishes! :) so I wasn't all wrong.

Ok I have to walk away from computer and get something done today.
To my defense, I did get some bills paid - on the computer. ;)

So crazy, still can't believe it happened to NJ. Definitely a scary night. My BIL is a contractor here in North Jersey, but has been hired by a few people down the shore, and he told me how he can't believe the devastation down there. I just hope it was a fluke and we won't see anything like that again. *wishful thinking* thanks for sharing those pictures.

My kids (8 & 5) are pretty shy, however, they got excited about the idea of Pin Swapping with CMs. As a way to encourage their adventurous side I would like to buy some but have no idea where to begin. I don't want to go crazy because on the likely chance they decide that there's no way they are going to talk to any CM then we will be keeping them all, if they surprise me, which they do on a lot of occasions I would like to have them on hand. Please provide any information on where to buy the pins and if we should also get lanyards. Thanks for the help.

Hey, there! I'll make sure I add you to the first post. I'm not sure about shipping to the resorts, as we always buy what we need once we land (well, this year we're driving).

Hello!!! My kids have traded pins since their first trip in 2006. You can purchase starter lanyards and sets on eBay for much cheaper prices than available at Disney. However, if you want to wait, when you get down to WDW, there will be several places that are Pin Trading centers/stores (for example, there's one in DTD). You can go there and get a starter set (which is usually 6 or 8 pins and a lanyard). These usually run $25-35, depending upon the type of pins.

If you want some eBay suggestions, feel free to PM me.....I've been buying off of there for years.

Hey everyone! I don't think I've been added..and I also sent a request to the FB group so please accept me! Dh and I are taking our Dd6 and DS2 along with my mom for a little surprise trip nov 10-14. Staying at AoA, two park days. One resort day with dinner at Ohana. We went last year for a longer trip, stayed offsite and absolutely fell in love :). I am counting down the days!!! And trying to get a CG reservation lol. We are adding this trip onto one that my inlaws are paying for to Miami for a family party. So lucky to have free airfare :). We might be exhausted when we arrive but am hoping a day at the AoA pools and a strong drink at Ohana helps!!!!!!

I believe if you are shipping items to the resort you need to have it addressed to yourself with the word Guest and your reservation number.. My children were 6 & 8 the first time we went to Disney so I am afraid I can't help much with advice for young children. Enjoy your trip!

Going 11-10 to 11-19 Staying at Pop this is out 2nd trip me and soon to be dw are going. Just a couples trip. also please add me on facebook group i cant pm you yet. wjchiefs gmail dot com
