Official May 17th Alaska Cruise Thread!

Agree! Great Photo!

I can't believe we leave next Saturday. We're are spending two nights in Seattle, then one night in Vancouver prior to the cruise.

Hi All!

I wanted to share a few things with very sets of people, so I thought this would be the best way to do so. Hope everyone has a great day!

FE Group
So, I received a few PMs asking how many in our cabin since there has been mention of my DH, but he is not listed on the FE list. It is just the two of us. I am getting the FE gifts for everyone, finding a FE to hang outside out cabin (ahhh! worried about this a bit!), and distributing gifts. When I first signed up to participate I thought that each person participating gives a gift to each person on the list. I did not realize it can be a gift for the entire stateroom family and a gift from the entire stateroom family. (I was thinking more like one to one personal gifts.) So, in short (I know, too late!) there are 2 adults (me and DH) in our stateroom. Thanks for asking!

Palo Private Dining Room Brunch Group
The Palo Brunch will NOT appear in your personal cruise activities on the web site. As it was explained to me: The Palo Private Dining Room isn't technically booked by me/us. It is booked by the department that coordinates the brunches so other departments don't book it for other purposes. Then, they coordinate who has it for which brunch (in this case, me and DH with 11 guests join us). Soooo.... it does not show up on any Guest activities/itinerary even though we have the brunch reservation because it is reserved through a second department.

When I get onboard on the 17th, I have to go to a separate check-in table to confirm "our" reservation and the list of Guests joining us.

In Seattle make the effort to go to Miners Landing - for some reason it is not really listed in the typical tourist stuff. There is this amazing restaurant there called the Crab Pot that is amazing, but also another place (dont know the name) just outside and it looks like a 'fast food counter' - but isn't really- its all deep fried stuff - every kind of seafood, chicken, etc.. and its SOOOOOO YUMMY!
Inside the building there is a tacky tourist type shop that is fun and also an indoor carasoul (sp?). Adults can ride it to - only $1.50 to ride. Lots of fun stuff for kids there and great views.
From there (or from Pike Place) you can take a pedicab between the 2 of them - miners and pike place market!

If you want great views of Seattle and don't want to pay for the space needle (which is way over priced), go to Columbia Tower Club building.
http://www.clubcorp.com/Clubs/Columbia-Tower-Club
Its easy to get to - when you go in there is a huge food court and its very nice- huge office building. You can tell them at the desk you want to go up to the look out. He will show you where to go - you have to take 2 separate elevators to get there. I believe it is floor 74 you pay $5 and can use the look out...but.... Go right to floor #75 and one of the 'worlds best bathrooms' is up there - its the womens washroom. Now I have to say, we visited, just to see the big deal - and really it wasn't that special - but we can say we peed there and used all the lotions. LOL. What makes it special is the view. There is an electric shoe polisher as well. LOL.

Also, the monorail is a blast - do tht for sure!

Have fun!

Oh also - I found some amazing cruise cups at target today - they look like a big clear takeout cup with a straw - you unscrew the top. They are clear and have a grip on them - I think blue, green, pink, maybe orange? We got pink of course.
They are about the size of a medium drink from McDs' - cost $4.97 each. Perfect for refilling at the soda station!

Okay, so somewhere on the boards I saw a schedule of what each night was...there was not a pirate night? I know previously there was supposed to be one...does anyone know?? I've finally started packing and I need to know if I need to bring pirate gear for the kids...

Someone had a great question for people on the Alaska cruise now, but I think it would be great for here as well..

For those of you who have cruised before, what's the one thing that you forgot that you really wish you had...and something you thought you needed but really didn't.

Thanks for all the tips...I can't believe how helpful they have been...and it's so great to already feel like I know people on board. Can't wait to meet you in person...

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms!

Hmmmmmm........
I am not really the type of person to forget something and I travel quite a bit, but on my Med cruise I "forgot" to leave extra space in the suitcase for stuff. I really dont buy much stuff when travelling but this was the last Med cruise and all the Disney Med 2010 merchandise was deeply, deeply discounted so I got a bunch of extra stuff that I normally wouldn't have bought. I was sweating it on the last night trying to pack then re-pack and weighing the bags to make sure I didn't go over the weight limit.

Something I thought I needed.....On my first Alaska cruise (2009 on Carnival Spirit) I brought my LL Bean ski jacket. I only used it once on the balcony as a blanket over my legs when I was watching too many humpback whales to count when we left out of Skagway.

Hello everyone! We're getting very excited about our cruise! We have our hotel in Seattle booked the night before! Everything is coming upon us so fast. My wife and I are creating our packing lists and double checking, triple checking them. We do not want to forget anything at all.

Anyways, the DIS Meet.

We know that we will be meeting in the Promenade Lounge for our DIS meet. However, there has been little discussion of the time for our meet. I just want to make sure we all have a good understanding of WHEN we are all meeting.

From the blogs, it looks like emergency drill is at 4:00.
Then the sail away party right after that.

What about setting the meet up time at 3:30, then we all can go to our respective emergency stations for our drill, since life vests are not required. I would love your feedback on this, everyone.

Also, if there are any cabin changes, this will be an excellent the time to communicate this to the other DISers. Lastly, everyone should know that the DIS meet is for EVERYONE, not just FE participants.

Have a great Sunday!
Nick

The one thing I brought and never used was the over the door shoe hanger thing for the bathroom that everyone insisted we needed. LOL. Never used it - plenty of room for what we had with us.
One thing I brought and used every day was a travel makeup mirror - we could sit and do makeup right at the desk -wont travel with out it!
Also the illuminated clock was good to have, and also my pop up laundry hamper.
I look at those packing lists and honestly laugh at some of the stuff on it -75% of it you will never use or need -I seriously can't believe what some people pack.

Oh here is something I wish I had packed and seriously have this for this time - you are all going to laugh really hard - one of those hanging air fresheners to put in the closet - no joke - we had our laundry in the closet, and honestly, 5-6 days of sweaty dirty clothes (now we were in the caribbean and it was HOT a couple of those days), just smells pretty ripe when in a contained space for a week - it was not a pleasant odor! LOL. I had to do laundry to get rid of the smell. We were on the go a lot, and it was hot - sweaty clothes in a cramped space is yucky! So I dont know if we will have that problem, but I have a little stick up air freshener I am going to put in the closet above the hamper! LOL.

I bring one of those hanging air freshener for the bathroom on each trip. I'll have to get another one now for the closet. :rotfl2:

Really, thanks for the tip.

Does anyone know what the price for an extra wave phone is?

No. Sorry. But if you get one, keep in mind each room comes with two phone and one charger. You will want another charger too. Also bring a power strip to be able to plug it in.

FE gifts are ready to go! Laundry is going...leaving ONE WEEK FROM TOMORROW! Some of you have less than that!

Read in a blog this am, that only the first ship will have to do the outside passage. And that all others will do the inside passage. :cool1:

From Allears Blog by Laura.
Our cruise is the only Disney Alaska
cruise that is scheduled to go north the way we did - all of the
others will cruise the Inside Passage both north and south. (Good
news for anyone who is worried about being seasick, since they
should not experience the rough seas that we had on our second day.)

Yea - we're all packed and ready to head to Vancouver next Sunday.

Wow is seems like this fast, we will be gone by this time next week and there is so much left to do. The blogs have gotten me so excited.

We're leaving in a week and I haven't even started packing yet. We spent the night browsing through the menus of various restaurants.

How much is the charge on wifi on the ship? I'm wondering how these people are blogging their trip.

Wifi is pricey - like $55 or 100 minutes.
I think what they do is write them, and go on the net and upload them.
Also, one of them mentioned they could get on their own internet in port - maybe they have a stick?
Also, in port, there is a lot of free wifi apparently - sometimes you can get it if you are up on the deck :)

I have so much to do this week!
