Official May 17th Alaska Cruise Thread!

Just back from our Mother's Day trip to Disney World. That was our pre-cruise Disney fix. Had a great time and am now excited to pack for our Alaska Adventure.

Finished my FE gifts and waiting for FE to arrive today. Daughter (the Disney guru) is making it.

Has anyone decided about getting together for dinner on Monday for those of us staying at the Pan Pacific?

We will catch up with all of you on the ship or maybe see people around the hotel (well I guess I dont know what you look like LOL) - we are meeting my friend over on Lonsdale Quay for dinner - love that place and never really go there much, so its a fun little 'play tourist in our own town' thing for us.

I did think of something close by if you guys are looking- there is an Old Spagetti Factory about a 5 min cab ride away - and there is a train trolley car in the middle of the restaurant you can request to eat in :)

Menus are all inclusive - tea/coffee, salad, entree and ice cream - starts around $9.99 (spagetti) and goes up to about 19.99 (steak). We have one near our house so eat there once a month or so - pretty good food and cheap.

I was just reading another blog - and found this funny, but good info...
In ketchikan there is a free shuttle to walmart! So if you need anything cheap that you forgot, or for us Canadians that love a good American walmart...you go catch that shuttle.

Yes, I will be visiting the Alaskan Walmart - and you know why? Because we can! LMAO

No Pan Pacific Hotel dinner for us. We don't plan to be at the hotel until about midnight.

What time is your scheduled boarding? Our boarding is scheduled for 12:30 pm.

Has anybody tried asking for a stateroom upgrade yet?

Our official time is 11:30-12 - but I plan on being down there at 10am so I can get on at 11.
I might keep my room key and if for some reason we can't get on until 1, I will go back to the room and hang out. Check out is noon.

Also - if you are going to try and upgrade- do it at the port, will save you big $$.
Not much available on our sailing now - $5700 for 2 people verandah

This is so funny! I have an Aussie friend that just found it so incredible to visit the 24hr Walmart at 3:00 am. Not sure I get it.

Actually, when I went to Juneau a few years ago we had a rental car and did stop at Walmart which was nice because my mom forgot a bunch of stuff on that cruise.

Oh no! The character breakfast is the same day as my Palo brunch - figures! We slept through the breakfast last time and this time we promised ourselves we would do it - but just dont think I can eat that much! lol.

I thought that's all you do on cruises (eat, eat and eat again)?

BTW, what day is the character breakfast?

Well... let's see:
  • Buy pins for pin trading - check!
  • Buy FE gifts - check!
  • Purchase new binoculars to see amazing sights and animals - check!
  • Decide on new camera purchase: Stuck between Nikon D5100 and Sony A55. Anyone have either?
  • Get new pants hemmed - check!
  • FINALLY get confirmation on time off from work - check! (PHEW!)
  • Find a winter coat - STRESSING BIG TIME
  • Possibly buy outdoor walking boots - Minor stressing
  • Pack - soooo far down the list, atm, LOL
  • Ignore that ticker down there that is making me nervous

Pin trading? I'm glad I'm following this board. I didn't realize there's pin trading on the ship like DL and DW

You probably won't need a full winter coat. Get a polar fleece jacket and a waterproof shell on top. Checked LL BEan??

Thanks! That's what I am looking for. By So. Cal. standards that's a "winter coat." :rotfl: Guess I should say, "winter jacket."

It's not quite like DLR or WDW in that there are not CM everywhere with lanyards on, but yes, pin trading! :cool1:

When we were on our 4 day Wonder cruise in the Bahamas there was a pin cart. At set times throughout the day they had pin trading, just like at the Parks (off a lanyard, two per person, Disney pins, etc....). There was also one night of Officer pin trading.

If you can wait until you get here, we have tons of them - you can get cheaper ones at walmart, or go to a bigger store and spend more- just depends what you are after! They are not in short supply!

Well it appears they are doing character breakfast over 2 mornings- t he first day at sea and tracey arm - so lets just hope its the first morning!
If not, I will just go, eat something light and save room for Palo! :)
