"Official" March 09 thread Who Else???

Anyone else already stalking the weather reports??? LOL!!!! I am now checking accuweather's 15 day forcast daily. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Don't know how accurate it will be but it's fun to look!!!:thumbsup2

DD is only in PreK lol but her teacher was excited and my brother (hes 17 junior in high school and coming with us) is missing the entire week and his teachers were excited for him as well, they were actually telling him what to go one and stuff. He asked them for work and they told him he would be to excited and bust to do it that he can make up stuff when he gets back.

stephie1012 my kids teachers' said the same thing..lol. A couple of them still remember our 2007 week in March of that year and even asked the kids, "Are you going to Disney again?!"

42 days till we leave for Disney!! :goodvibes

I have to ask this.....

Those us of with kids in public school....

what are you telling the teachers?

and how are the teachers reacting to you taking the kids out for a Disney Vacation?

My DD8's teacher was none too thrilled when we told her at the Parent/Teacher last week but as a parent, it is my perogative to take a NEEDED family vacation. I told her that all the work sent home would be completed and returned with my daughter when she returned to school the following monday. :teacher:

My other daughter is in Kindergarten, her work is just as important but not as hard ;)

I just wanted to see what y'all were doing in regards to that

We have kids that are the same ages as yours. At our Parent/Teacher Conference I told them about our "Secret Disney Vacation" and both teachers were very happy about the idea. The Kindergarten teacher thinks that Disney is a great place to take children to learn about things AND to have fun. The Second Grade teacher was just excited about the whole idea. Neither of my kids can make up the work (they will be out the whole week before their Spring Break) because according to our District Rules, no homework is to be sent home for vacation purposes...so they will have to make it up when they come back and both teachers have assured me that the girls can take as long as they need to do so.

I have a sixth grader who is in all enriched classes in middle school, I am not sure what his teachers will think, I haven't told them yet. He is able to keep up his gym grade though, because as long as they excerise for half an hour a day and I sign off on it, then that will count as missing one day of gym.
My youngest is in first grade, and he is the one I worry the most about, he is behind anyway, but his teacher doesn't think that missing school will set him back to much. Then I am in school, I have three papers and a mid term that I have to take care of right before we leave, as they are due will I am on vacation.
We are missing a total of 6 days, but in my mind it is so worth it.

I know I will get a few of you upset but,I belive the time you spend with your kids are more Inmportien then the time your kids would have spent In the class room. Now I know,I know the teachers out there and the parents that will testfie that the work they miss will hold them back. You know they may be right, who knows all kids learn diffrently, they all take to school diffrent to yes there Is those kids that will just assorb school and then there Kids In class that are just going through the motions at times. But the times you spend with your kids you will never get back and may never be able to make up.People will always go on learning, but you can never go back and make up the time you spend with your kids. But Its up to you,and you only, you have to do what you feel Is right for you and your Family, good luck:goodvibes

Everyone knows that every experiences teaches you something. Any school that makes it difficult for families to take kids out during school is just following state orders.

The No Child Left Behind legislation requires schools to make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) to receive funding each year and to keep them off of probation status. Attendance rates are one of the categories that often keep good schools from making AYP. So, don't blame the school, blame the law.

President O'Bama would be looking to change that if he wasn't so busy with the economy.

Enjoy the Magic with your kids!

Thank you all for you thoughts, I wish I could better express my gratitude.

dumb question:

What's LGM?

Lime Green Mickey - it's the symbol of a DISer. You can make them yourself or get them at Home Depot as a paint sample. If you see somebody wearing one, you should introduce yourself. I'm always happy to meet a fellow DISer.
