Special Events

Epcot Flower and Garden Festival through May 28, 2018
For those of you starting your June vacation around Memorial Day weekend, you can still make time to attend the Flower and Garden festival at Epcot! Last year, it really wasn't crazy busy on Memorial Day itself so if you can, take the time to walk around and enjoy all the extra scenery, festival booths, and opportunities around Epcot before it ends!

Walt Disney's Incredible Summer Series, starting May 25, 2018
New offerings in all four WDW theme parks include dance parties, new shows, and character meets. Also featured in this article is another tease for Toy Story Land opening June 30 2018.

DVC Moonlight Magic Dates
DVC has just announced the 2018 Moonlight Magic dates to enjoy Typhoon Lagoon after hours on May 30th and June 11th. Booking begins for Members with Resort reservations on the event dates April 19. Pending availability, booking opens for all Members on May 3. I'll update as more information comes out.

Orlando Informer Meetup: Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure - June 2
On Saturday, June 2, 2018, Orlando Informer is taking over all of Universal Studios Florida™ and Universal's Islands of Adventure™. From 5:00 pm to 1:30 am, you'll have access to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™ - Hogsmeade™ & Diagon Alley™, Marvel Super Hero Island®, Jurassic Park™, and much more.

Disney After Hours Dates
Two nights of Disney After Hours have been announced for June with many more in July and August. Guests can expect to experience low waits on many rides and experiences in the Magic Kingdom as well as complimentary bottled drinks, popcorn, and ice cream. Tickets are now available for June 28th, June 30th, and other select nights onward. There are AP and DVC discounts available as well.

• Paid Parking is coming to WDW On-Site Resorts. Official Disney Parking Page | Disboards Parking Discussion
• Toy Story Midway Mania closed from June 11 - 18th to prepare for Toy Story Land.
• FP+ will not be available for Toy Story Midway Mania after April 9 through at least June 8 (as of 3/14/18). Keep watching to see if FP will be enabled again before the opening of Toy Story Land
• You can now use Dining Plan credits with mobile ordering on the My Disney Experience app. Great upgrade for those of you with the dining plan! Click here to read more about it!

On top of that, it'll be my youngest dd's first trip, my oldest dd's high school grad trip, my hubby and I's 18th anniversary and my middle dd has not been since she was 4, so kind of a first trip for her too LOL Lots to celebrate while we are there!

We did POR last time and LOVED it, but since the kids are way too big to share a bed now, we'll probably need two rooms. I'm no help on the value room sitch, but good luck in deciding, it's always tough! Maybe consider renting some points for a 1 bedroom? Might be more economical!

I have! The moderate resorts have bigger rooms, more bus stops and more sophisticated theming and food courts. However, I didn't mind at all going from staying at Coronado/Caribbean Beach/Port Orleans Riverside to All Star Movies/Pop Century. Honestly, we're only there to shower and sleep and occasionally swim. The only downside I feel about value resorts is the one bus stop vs. multiple bus stops. If you get a preferred room, however, you will stay closer to the bus stops/food court, and it's still cheaper than a moderate resort.

I know nothing about renting points. I tried to do a little research on it. It is difficult for me to understand well enough to be comfortable with the idea. It appears there are risks involved. Not sure I want to gamble with something as big as our family vacation.
I've also looked at the Disney Springs resorts. The Doubletree looks nice; I like that it's all suites, which would fit my growing family (and I don't mean growing in number!) The price is right, but unless I'm mistaken, Disney Springs resorts aren't eligible for the dining plan, and not getting a DP is one of my regrets from our last trip.

There are some trade offs to be sure. You could always look into one of the brokers, like David's to learn more about the process. The downside is you do have to pay for it upfront and the matched DVC owner will make the booking for you. They also "own" the booking until you check in. It's not for everyone, especially if you need to have more flexible dates. You can add the dining plan so that's a plus if you want that.

The price is right, but unless I'm mistaken, Disney Springs resorts aren't eligible for the dining plan, and not getting a DP is one of my regrets from our last trip.

Correct, no dining plan off property. But you could also cook some meals and save some serious cash that way. Doesn't help if you have teenagers who eat everything in the fridge though Good luck in deciding, at least you have some time yet.
