*****Official (??) June 2014 Thread -- Party Like It's Hot!*****

The more I read about people being happy that they got the Memory Maker, the more I want to do it, especially now that my 5-year-old has become BFFs with the Chick-fil-a cow and I believe we have a good chance of getting pictures of her with characters this time. I asked DH, but he adamantly vetoed the idea because he said we don't need to spend the money for it. (Boo!)

My wife and I did not want to spend the extra money, either. However, the more we thought about, for <150, we would have professional park pictures of our experience, along with our personal photos. We will not be spending money on printing them, so why not spend the money to capture our vacation.

That's it. I MUST decorate our MagicBands. What's the best method on a tight budget? Nail polish & a top coat to help it stick? Sharpies? :confused3

The stomach bug is hopefully on its way out *knock on wood* and so far DSis' schedule seem to be nearly in tune with what she had before the coworkers left. Hopefully that means she'll still have our trip weekend off. On top of that, one of the guys at the new pub across the road from my work asked me out. I'm horrible at dating and my brain froze so I just kind of sputtered "But, b-but I need to focus on Disney right now!" Pretty sure he thinks I'm crazy now :rotfl:

Is anyone going to "Disneybound" while they're there? DSis just put together a decent Eilonwy outfit that will hopefully still be light enough she doesn't pass out in the heat (pink skirt, sheer white peasant blouse under a darker tank top, red belt). She's excited since the books "The Black Cauldron" is based off of are some of her favorites.

You can just pick up a roll of Duck brand Duct tape from Walmart. They have Disney styles. You could also get Disney tattoos there. Go check out the thread on decorating magic bands under the theme park community. There you will see what people have done and what hasn't worked. I've read of using clear nail base coat under and above polish and tattoos. I used acrylic paint because I had more colors of that than nail polish. I did buy the sealer at Michael's in the paint section. No one seemed to have done that yet so we'll see how it turns out. But someone was selling them on Etsy that way. I think it will be good. Even sticking a little nail polish or color around the MH on the band would add something to it.

No Disney Bounding for me at WDW. I will be Florida Bounding- whatever I can find that is light weight and dries quickly! I have Disney Bound my nails before I knew what Disney Bounding was. I would use the colors of a character. This time, I think I will try to make them match my MB. But as we are there for 2 weeks, whatever I do won't be looking good by the end!

We finally decided to go ahead and get MM. It is just DH and I but we figure this may be our only trip to WDW so we should go ahead and try. We once got PhotoPass+ at DRL and got lots of great pictures. Of course, that only cost about $70, if I recall.

Does anyone here use twitter? I'm @rainydayplay there, too. #DisJunie14?
No, not on twitter. :( But it would be fun to compare Fitbit reports and how far we both walked.

I like that! Florida Bounding :lmao: My own packing is kind of in-between. I've always worn Disney-ish outfits since I was little while trying to remain cool. We're only going for 2/3 days in the parks so why not make an actual attempt this time? So far I have red shorts and a white tee with black accents for "Mickey" and a light blue tank with either purple or darker blue overshirt (to keep the sun off my arms) and snowflake hair tie for "Elsa". Nothing fancy, just something to make me smile on my birthday. Everything very Florida Bounding by your definition. Also, thanks for the tips about decorating the bands. I'll check out the thread.

No, but I keep thinking about getting one. Just need to think of a SN and actually have a reason to twitter. Good idea, though!

I usually play on mine once a year at the teacher's tech conference I just came back from. They had a contest this year for getting in 15 posts a day.

I tweeted an issue at Sam's Club this afternoon and got a response before I got home, so we'll see....

tinkerbell615, I got it! (And am amused...Same last name!) Definitely going to use #DisJunies2014 -- I've posted a whole ONE tweet with that...:rotfl:

We are going to Medieval Times for my birthday! It was set as non-park day. Got an email for all seats $35. Code is also on their website.

Did you sign up for their email? If you've signed up before, you get an email to get yourself in free for your birthday. If not, sign up anyway, because there's always next year, and it's good in any of their castles..

I like this idea! I'm @bassclarinetgrl. I used to use twitter a lot, now it's mostly my Instagram and foursquare posts, but I will be using both of those in WDW for sure!

Ooooh is anyone going to use the #disjunies2014 on instagram? I don't do Twitter but I do Instagram!

ONE WEEK FROM THIS MOMENT I WILL BE IN FLORIDA!
The army post we live on just kicked off Victory Week so we were suddenly bombarded with fireworks. My husband didn't know what was going on and got a little ansy.... :worried: But he perked up and said he's looking forward to WDW fireworks! :thumbsup2

I 100% recommend MM. I didn't get it last trip (well, photopass) because of the expense but then we got home and there are no pictures of ME because I was always behind the camera. I bought it for this trip without even asking the hubs. It's hard to take a selfie with Pooh.

Just booked a last minute anniversary trip for our 10th! We're childless on this trip and staying at the GF for the first time. Can come one help with ideas? Here's what I've been thinking:

June 27-30
fri: MK/Epcot, eat dinner at Epcot - Via Napoli?
Sat: EMH at HS, early dinner at DTD - house of blues?, MK till close at 11, then maybe DTD later
Sun: AK, (MK/Epcot), dinner at California Grill, boardwalk.
Mon: depart

Our Calif Grill ressies are at 9:45. I remember talk about seeing one of the fireworks shows from there. Is that true? Epcot's or MK's?

TIA. If you have better ideas, I'm open!

Found it! (It's here, in case anyone else is interested.) It looks like most did use cheap nail polish with at least a top coat. I can't wait to try this on my day off! Mine is blue so now to decide: Dreamfinder/JtI theme, Elsa, Peter Pan or just outline the Mickey. I'm going to Oozma Kappa up Squishy's orange somehow and let DSis do her own thing with her green.

Help, I'm going nuts here!!! I looked at the weather channel, and it's saying thunderstorm everyday we're at WDW... I want to cry right now!!! Is this normal??? Does this mean just sprinkles here and there??? THUNDERSTORM, here in Louisiana means "NO FUN" lots of lighting and rain... I've waited so long for this, and now it's going to be ruined.

Please don't worry about it. You can expect an afternoon thunderstorm most every day in the summer but it is usually just one shower (and much needed to take the edge off the heat and humidity) and it clears up for a beautiful afternoon and evening. The forecast shows that they expect a thunderstorm each day, but it is often interpreted that it means rain all day and most of the time this is not the case at all. :goodvibes

We're actually signed up for DH's birthday. One of the company terminal's is in Dallas--he can see the castle from his parking space. I was hoping they'd have a reset there during his birthday month, but the time didn't work out this year. His partner has never been to anything like it so I am hoping they will get to in the future.

I did read through the FAQ (after I bought my tickets) and they will send a 2 day before email for the birthday Lord/Lady. So, not for my trip (tickets are non-refundable), but good info for anyone looking at it.

Thank you for the reminder!

:woohoo:

:yay::yay: Hello to you!

The fireworks at California Grill are the Magic Kingdom's show. You'll also be able to see the show from the Grand Floridian resort.

I don't know if you booked a dining plan, but if you did not, restaurants.com had a coupon for House of Blues. I was looking last week. Just be sure to get the DTD location and not another. Also they state a minimum purchase, so if you don't think you'll reach that amount, don't get it.

Have you checked the menus here at wdwinfo or allears.net ? They are both very good and have prices for the OOP group.

Enjoy your vacation!

Do yourself a favor and go to a dollar store and pick up some ponchos. I bring 1 for each of us to the park each day and have extras in the room so we can throw them out if we want to. When we were there last weekend, we needed them one time. It did not rain on us in Saturday or Monday, even though the skies looked ominous. On Sunday we needed the ponchos so we suited up and waited under a overhang. We got lucky with the 2nd band of rain because we were inside having dinner. It usually doesn't last longer than 20 minutes or so.

Thanks, I feel so much better after reading your message. Oh and thanks for the good vibes!!!

Name: Julia {Jules}
Travel Dates (if known): June 9th to June 16th!
Where Will You Be Staying?: For the first time we'll be staying at the Art of Animation, as it's the family goal to visit all hotels.
Travel Party: Me, my sister, my Mom, my Dad, and my 5 year old cousin.
Current Location: Not in Florida, unfortunately!
Favorite Disney Character: Mulan, all the way.
Favorite Disney Movie: Hm... Mulan, The Fox and the Hound, and Lilo and Stitch.
How Many Trips?: This will either be my 13th or 14th trip, I kind of forget.
On-Site or Off?: On-Site.
Best Disney Story: Honestly? Just being in Disney is the best thing that could ever happen to someone. There's just this feeling that goes along with being there. When I think about the songs they play, the atmosphere, going to restaurants you go to once a year and yet somehow know so well? It's crazy, but it's pure magic. I think my best Disney experience may have been the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights. I saw it once and I'll never unsee that crazy night. cx
What do you look forward to most on your next trip? This trip, I kind of just want to be there. The year's been kind of hectic so far and school's out for everybody. It's going to be hot and crowded but we were built for Disney, were we not. :cool1:

I'll second this! Sometimes, it's hot enough that you'll wish it had rained longer, because a really quick rain doesn't do anything but kick up the humidity. If it rains long enough, things will cool down AND it will clear the park out for a bit. If it isn't accompanied by thunder/lightning, the rides will go on. Otherwise, find some shelter and take a break.

We went to the one in Orlando for my birthday a couple years ago, then we went to the one in Atlanta this past March. Twice a year, they have a Scout Day (Medieval Times badge, woohoo!). At Spring Break, they had cheap tickets, too. Just all kinds of deals throughout the year. You'll be glad you gave them the email.:thumbsup2
