***Official June, 2012! Hot, hot, hot!!!***

I hate it!! The traffic is terrible. We don't even leave the house on race day. They have two big races a year and oddly enough one is usually around my dad's birthday and the other around my fil's birthday. My inlaws have joked about renting out their house race weekend and staying at a hotel. Now that they have so much money in parts for their appliance repair business, they can't do that. At the TSM they have a building with condos and business in it. When the TSM was first open, the DH had a job in that building. We got to go to a cart-type race for free b/c we could sit where he worked and watch it.
So, this may be a really dumb question, but what is a DQ? I'm sure it's not Dairy Queen, like I was thinking when I first read that.

WOO HOO :dance3::banana: I was just talking to my DH about y'all last night. Something about the fact that your DH would have to be redeployed so soon just got on my nerves. I didn't tell my DH what I said you should tell the person that makes that decision. Before I could tell him he said, "you should tell her to go up to the person that makes that decision and say 'Listen here Mr. Army-man, my husband is going to Disney World with me and nobody messes with my Disney trip' while she's giving him an evil go to heck look. Then he was like, "that guy must be an idiot for even thinking about messing with her Disney trip and deserves any wrath he gets from her if he does."
The thing is, this is the first time we were going to use that money like this. Like the first time in about 12-13 years. My DH started school in early 1999 and I started school when he ran out of money for his last class to get his 2nd Master's degree.

We just leave the house as little as possible the week leading up to the race. The day of, we don't leave the house unless we have no other choice. My inlaws used to try and be away for those weekends, but then noticed they would always come home about the time the races were letting out.

Will adding him to the ADRs cause y'all to have to go up to a bigger table, where it could cause you to not be able to have the same times that you have now? I hope your able to work it all out. Some people just don't realize how much work goes into planning a WDW trip. What would be a minor no biggy change on any other trip, can be a big deal on a WDW one.

I hate race weekend traffic, so we have to get to the track 3 or more hours before it starts and then its only heck when we are leaving after the race is over.

DQ is Disney Quest

It's tough having to deal with a civilian employer as well as the Army. When the Army speaks, I listen, whether I like it or not, but when the civilian employer speaks, I want to fight back. This guy is a nobody, he makes the driver schedules, I don't really know why my husband is even answering to him, he says it's because his real boss is so busy, but this guy is the one who told him that if he wanted some time in June, so his parents could come, not to worry, now he's being a jerk. My husband isn't asking for anything but 3 days off, and he doesn't ask off much nor does he ever call out or not show up like other people there.

Sounds like someone has a little bit of power, and must have had someone in the Army kick his rear end in the past, and he's taking it out on your DH. Is this person the only person that can make that decision, or is there someone else he could talk to. If you were closer to be, I would come and be your back up when you explain to this guy what a pathetic waste of oxygen he is.

I don't really know how much power this guy has, but he's a jerk. I don't know if he has ever had any dealings with the Army or not, but if he tries to give my Dh trouble about it again, I will get someone from the Army involved. Yeah, he is a waste of oxygen.

I just got a big box from Disney Store online, they had a sale and I bought a bunch of stuff, nothing for the trip, because I can't wear their t-shirts. I didn get an iPad sleeve, some Christmas ornaments and a Christmas door hanger. DH got several Cars 2 die cast cars. I bought him the set of Mater Monster Cars for Easter. We were going to go to the Disney Store outlet again in 2 weeks when we go to Atlanta, but that got scrapped and we are going to Birmingham this weekend, they closed their Disney Store about 2 years ago, makes me sad.

I use Disney cards on line, but I don't know what a merchandise card is - I mean if it is the same as a gift card. I am so anxious about this trip. The girls got skorts, shirt and sandles with a frog on it, I hope I can get them the purse to match but refuse to pay regular price for accessories. They each got several things but I love the frog one.
I got the merchandise card at the Disney store when I returned an iPhone case that my sil bought me that was the wrong one. I have a 4 and this was for a 3G. I thought I could use it on the online store to buy one for the 4G. When I tried, they tried to take the money out of my checking account (that we only put money in when we need to pay a bill b/c my DH would rather have the cash on hand, plus it makes it harder for people to steal money that isn't there). When I called the number in the email they sent me when they card was rejected, they said that it was company policy when someone was using a merchandice card (and maybe even a gift card) to first put the item on a cc that is on file. Then when the item is shipped, those funds are released back to the cc and they take the money of the merchanice card. Well I told them that was about the stupidest thing I had ever heard, and that I just wanted the order cancelled. Now I have to drive back to the Disney store, through major construction, to use the card. Plus is a very small store. At least 50% of it is little girls clothing. I don't think I could find the size I need in the store, so I'll more than likely end up buying a travel mug, or two, to use on our trip.

I hate race weekend traffic, so we have to get to the track 3 or more hours before it starts and then its only heck when we are leaving after the race is over.
I assume, you could do it there as well, but at the TSM there are a lot of the parking lots that are for people to camp in. It's not odd for people to show up in their travel trailors a week before the race starts. I used to work with one person, that her hubby would take the travel trailor to the TSM the week before race started and he would stay with the trailor while the family stayed at home. Then the Friday before the race was on Sunday, the rest of the family would join him.

I didn't even think about that place. I guess it's because we have never been to it.

That has to be hard. Yeah, you really don't have much say so as far as the Army is concerned. I know when my bil was in the Army, they had him fill out his choices of where he wanted to be stationed. He was totally convinced that he first post would be one of his top 3. He ended up in S. Korea, which I guarantee you wasn't anywhere near his list.

Well whether his boss is busy or not, if it's part of his job to approve or deny time off, then your DH is not bugging him. It's part of what the boss gets paid for, so make that boss earn his salary and get him to approve the time off. Your family deserves it. It just irrates the crap out of me when jobs treat soldiers like that. My DH had the opposite problem at his last job. He was the one guy in the IT department that hadn't been in the military. His immediate boss treated him like he was an idiot and didn't know what he was doing b/c of it. The funny thing is, it was that guy that was a complete idiot.

I just love it when Brown Santa (UPS man) brings stuff to our house. Well brings stuff for me to out house. We get several deliveried throug-out the day for my in-laws appliace repair business, which is how they get most of their parts. It's especially wonderful when you see that Disney symbol on the box. I usually always giggle in joy when I see that blue Disney symbol.

Just checkin in :) Hope everybody had a great week and if you didnt then atleast its the weekend and another week closer to our trips woo woo! Even as slow as the days feel waiting, it seems that our vacations are coming up quick!

Any new or useful advice or info from the facebook page to share?

We started back at black friday shopping the sales at Disney (my way of hinting to my husband that we HAVE to go now bc I bought all this stuff lol)...but mainly just shirts and a few gifts for the kids. Now I need to start thinking about all the little things that we need.

Also I was curious if anybody uses the touring plans? We've had a subscription for the last two years but mainly used it just to get an idea of park crowds. This year I was thinking of using it since it'll be busier but don't want to feel like Im stuck in a schedule. We're pretty leisurely but still want to enjoy the rides without a crazy long line.

The best thing about this week is that with it being over, it is a week closer to our trips.

We have never used TP on a trip before, but we are going to use it on our trip in early June. My DH doesn't want to plan out the rides, he think the trip is planned out too much already with me having ADRs for lunch and dinner. We'll mainly use it for planning what parks on what days, and the line wait times.

Yes, I use the TP. We like to have a plan so that there is not a lot of discussion as to what to do next. However, we use it as a guideline. If we want to change it on the fly, we do. If someone wants to ride something twice or we feel the need to sit inside for awhile and see a show, we do it. We just pick up the plan where we left off. We do stop for those impromptu shows that pop up with characters.

We stick it more faithfully in the parks where we are spending only one day. DHS and AK are those parks for us. This way we are sure that we see and do everything we want to do.

We are looking forward to using the "Lines" app this year for the wait times.

Now that they are enforcing the FP windows, I think that the TP will become more important.

This is just my opinion because it works for the kind of travelers we are. We do take breaks back at the resort most days.

Use what works for you and change what doesn't. Have a great trip!!

New guy checking in. June 21-July 2, staying in Indian Creek with some other family that's flying in from another part of the country. 8 Day Premium YES tickets with a day planned to go to a beach, going to be very busy but I can't wait. I'm a major planner so I can't seem to stay off DIS reading all of the great tips. Anyway, just found this thread and thought I'd say hi.

Hello! We are going to be visiting in June too! June 20-July 4 Staying in Indian Creek and have eight day Yes tickets. Sounds like we are planning the same trip rpierce99 :) We are a family of 4 plus my mom. My son will be 16 and daughter is 12. My mom uses a scooter so we are always looking for tips for that too. Right now we are trying to figure out two day touring plans for MK, HS, Epcot and 1 or 2 day at AK. We belong to touring plans and tour guide Mike. Might try out RideMax for the first time, nothing like over planning:lmao: Debi

I purchased the touring plans app for the computer and my phone. I am excited to use it. It will just be me and my daughter so am hoping to get things pretty well planned out so we can also enjoy pool time.

So excited! I went shopping yesterday for the kids summer shorts...AKA Disney clothes! Then we stopped by Walmart and got some of the small needed items from our packing list. My husband is even getting excited :) We got a couple of those Chilly Togg Froggs (lol I already forgot the name)...I also just ordered something online for cooling the bra area. I hope they work in June heat and humidity and not just make you feel soggy.

I always love shopping, but shopping for Disney is FANTASTIC! It really just makes our trip seem closer.

I don't know where you bought your cooling things for in the bra, but I bought mine from Polar Breeze. I hydrated them, and put them in the frig for a couple of hours before putting them in. Even in that short of time, they made me cool. I haven't tried them in the heat. I wish I had thought about wearing them yesterday when I went with my mom and dad to the Texas Indian and Southwest Market.

Newbie checking in here. Our trip is the 14th to the 23rd. We're staying at CSR. :)

What we are probably going to try to do is take the first 4 days and see everything we can in all 4 parks, and then use the remaining days to go back and do stuff we missed, I have a feeling the kids (10,8,6) will probably not care to do epcot and AK again after the first day (but I've never been to WDW so I can't say for sure) so I have a feeling those other 4 days will be spent back at MK or DHS, but our plan will be to show then EVERYTHING and then let them decide what they felt like they missed or really loved the first time through and go back for that. Getting consensus among the 10 of us will be fun though :)

My DGKids favorite is definitely MK but they also love Epcot. The 2- 7 year olds and 12 year old rank it right with MK except they wish it had a parade. We usually do Epcot in 2 days - one day focusing on The World Showcase and one day focusing on Future World. Their are unique chacaters at Epcot that you won't find in the other parks, plus lots of hand on experiences. As far as AK there is also alot do do there but we can do it in one day. But we don't hike up the trails and have never been out to where the Vetrinarians can be watched. However, much of that is because the kids have allergies and the foliage there bothers them.

I will get you and all the other new June 2012 joiners on the list tomorrow, we have had streep and the flu around here this weekend so I am a bit behind. If you check post 555 you can see who all will be there at the same time as you.

Hope you have a great first trip and :welcome::welcome::welcome: to you and ll who have joined in the past few days.

:scared:The ones I bought are one time use only...I knew there had to be something better out there. I bought a ton of them so I'll try one when I get them and if they're find I'll just use those for the trip, otherwise I'll get the polar breeze. Are they noticable? I saw some online but more for breastfeeding issues and were HUGE, thats why I went with these cooling strips.

Sorry that you're feeling sick-hope that you all start to pick up soon. This dang Kansas weather had my family down for two weeks just passing it around. However it was a beautiful weekend!

Thanks for taking over the June list, its greatly appreciated :cheer2:

Other than them being cool, I didn't notice them there at all. The size of the tube is based on your bra cup size. When you first get them, they just feel like they have very little sand it in. I thought there was no way, it would be full of jell. After a 20-ish minutes soak in water, they were full. I lightly squeezed them of excess water, dried the surface off with a towl and then put them in the fridge. I did let them dry out, so I could put them with the rest of our stuff to pack. Since the Pop Century will have fridges by the time we go, I just have to resoak them at night for 20 minutes in water and then put them in the fridge over night. I also bought each of us wraps to go around our necks. My DH isn't sold on wearing his yet, but I bet if he goes one day without it, he will be wearing it the rest of the trip. I ordered mine on like a Thursday (I think) and they arrived by Tuesday or Wednesday of the next week.

Yes, Talladega has large areas of land around the track and the infield, of course, where you can come set up camp for the week. I DO NOT CAMP, ANYWHERE! We drive up the morning of. I might try to get a hotl for Saturday night before this years race, but I don't know.

My hubby is actually in the Reserves, so thank goodness we don't have to worry about moving, I couldn't live that kind of life. I really think my hubby wants to ge out again, but he doesn't have too many more years before he qualifies for retirement benefits that would really be useful. We also have the option of having Tricare now and it is so much less expensive than what my company offers, besides all the other benefits we have like the Commissary and travel discounts, but he doesn't really see all that, since I take care of it for us...Men. It really doesn't kill him to put in 2, maybe 3 days a month and 2 weeks in the summer, he has friends in the unit and he gets to travel, not to mention the extra money for our trips. I told him that if he gets out, no more Disney trips, no more Nascar trips, no more anything, because the insurance will eat up our income.

We will really need this vacation, because DH will be gone to WVa for the 2 weeks prior to our trip and then his parents come in, he hasn't seen them since last August and we don't usually see them except every few years. He is going to have to go to the big boss, as I like to call him. Come to find out, the guy they said was already off doesn't have the seniority DH has and DH let them know that really quickly.

Our trip in January was the first time we have ever been to Disney Quest and I wasn't impressed, it really needs some work. It reminds me of a mall game room, but larger.

This June group is sure growing. This should be an updated list. Don't have anyway to update the list on page 1 as the OP has been sick, sure hope she is doing better.
