***** Official * July 2017 * thread! *****

Got all of the reservations that we wanted for our trip (even BOG for our anniversary dinnner) but now I am second guessing our resort choice! Booked at AKL in a standard room, but also throwing the idea of WL around, but then thinking do we want to go all out or just stay value. AHHH! My DH says that it is my decision but I am so indecisive! We have done ASMu, ASSp and Boardwalk for our last trips so we aren't opposed to a value to save money but the idea of a deluxe again is such a great thought! Anyone else having second thoughts on where they are staying? Any inputs on where you would stay if you were in my position?

I second guess my resort and dates everyday, so I'm probably not the best person to give advice. :tilt:
But since it's an anniversary trip I would splurge on a deluxe. :)

Just booked Pop for July 1st through the 8th!

Love POP starting to miss it.

This is pretty much my plan too(minus the EMHs) My one worry is that my TH ADR is 10:15 so hoping if we get there early we'll be towards the front of the rope drop crowd and be able to get one of the pandora rides and make the ADR!

That is about the same time as mine but I think we will be ok

Like I said I miss POP. Our last 2 trips we have done a few days at a moderate and then 2 or 3 at a deluxe. Our first time doing this we went from POFQ to Beach Club and with the exception of the proximity to EPCOT and HS we actually preferred POFQ. Last time we split between POR and Poly. We liked riverside very much but got a dream upgrade at Poly.
this trip I am planning the same split as last time. POR with free dining and then Poly with a RO discount.

Is there something else you would like to use your savings on? A fancy dinner or a fireworks cruise?

I am not opposed to a split stay, just not exactly thrilled about switching resorts mid stay. I have the Keys to the Kingdom tour already booked and paid for on our anniversary so excited about that. I just keep looking at the difference between the value room at $98 a night to AKL at $227 a night. Amazing savings for the AKL room but then I think about our food and extras would be about the same as the value room and those put together as the deluxe room for the week. So many decsions! And such an awful predicament to be in (just joking!) I am just lucky that we are able to do this trip!

totally agree. It is hard to spend so much extra when you are happy with what you have got. My husband loved keys to the kingdom. Initially this trip was supposed to be just me and my eldest daughter 25 who did the college program. That combined with my being able to get free dining around my birthday July 4th convinced me to go moderate because we will likely have more resort time than I normally would. Now my 15 year old son is also coming.

I know the viewing is not as great but we are switching to the Poly to be able to see the fireworks from the beach on my birthday. This resort will always hold a special place in my heart. Not only was it the first resort I ever stayed at but they treated us so well when we were there in September.

I constantly second-guess our resort choice, restaurants, everything...I think this is because it gives me an excuse to "plan" a little more! We originally booked at AKL for our 10th anniversary trip, but we ended up switching to POR because we could stay for 9 nights instead of 5 for the same price :). This trip we also skipped over AKL because we wanted to be closer to the parks, but I do think it's a very nice resort and we will probably stay there one day!

I used to do that all the time too. Now we rent DVC points so I can't second guess and re-book! It just means I keep messing with our ADR's and FP+ plans!

I am having the worst time trying to plan this trip. We will be there July 1st through 5th and I really have no idea of what the crowds will be like during that time. I just know that we will be going to AK to see Pandora. And it looks like it will have to be two trips if I want to fastpass the new rides.

Kenny the Pirate has them listed in bright red as INSANE CROWDS.

That's what I was afraid of! :crazy2:

Does he have any suggestions about how to handle the crowds for that time period?
That is the same time we'll be there. Our plan is - Rope Drop and use FP+ wisely. Do check Kenny the Pirate's calendar for advice on which parks on which days, or use Josh's on easywdw - or don't but whatever you do - make sure you have a plan. This is not the week to 'wing it'!
We were there the same week last year and we had a fabulous time - hot, sticky and rainy but still fabulous!

Right now the difference between POR and AKL is only $35 a night, so that isn't a huge deal breaker to switch to that. Since this is just DH and I, I am really leaning toward a value and spend time resort hopping and taking things in that we haven't been able to do with the kids. With a family of 5 we are limited to where we can stay, so I haven't had too many times to over think where we are going to stay. With just the two of us the whole world of resorts are open to us. My DS and I stayed at ASSp this past December and it was a great little resort. My only complaint was the pillows but i can always pack my own for this trip. Now I have looked at Pop Centurary too and wonder if we would like to stay there. Can it seriously be time to go so I stop trying to "plan"!

If you're thinking of value I would definitely recommend Pop. It's my favourite resort tied with POFQ and the Poly. :)

My husband and I enjoy resort hopping when it is just the 2 of us.

Okay I think I have made up my mind and we are going to stay at AKL! Being just the two of us and our anniversary I want to be able to spend time relaxing at our resort and not at the parks all the time. This way we have a nice resort to go back to and just take it all in. We had already decided that we are going to share a lot of qs meals because they are so huge and may do the same at a few TS and get an app and meal to share so that will save some money too in the long run. Now I just need to stop looking at the website and overthinking things!

Don't have to fuss over which resort this trip as I am going with my cousins who have a time share off property. I am fussing over whether to use Express Transportation. Since this is our first time driving....we have to navigate a plan and Express may not line up with our night plans. It's all so complicated.

Anyone done Jedi training before? I have an 8 and 10 year old and want to take them but that sign up process sounds like a big old hassle. Getting up early and waiting around in the July heat...is it worth it??

I went ahead and purchased the dining plan, based on how expensive our characters meals will be. Here's what ADR's I have! Never eaten at any of these places so feedback is welcome!
Arrival day (Poly) July 4th: 'Ohana dinner 6:45
MK July 5th: BOG lunch at noon, CP dinner at 6:20
HS July 6th: Mama Melrose 12:30 or H &V 3:45 (both Fantasmic and I need to drop one!! Can't decide! Neither has me excited really but I want those F! Tickets)
AK July 7th: TH 12 noon ROL package!! flame Tree or Harambe mkt dinner (?)
EP July 8th: Akershus breakfast 11:30, dinner in World Showcase
We will have one extra CS meal to use at HS or Captain Cook's.
