OFFICIAL January 2012 5K, Half Marathon, Marathon, Goofy or Dopey Challenge Thread

How do you get a proof of time that they will accept? I have a 10K in november - when I first signed up in may, I was just starting running, so I put the full 3 1/2 hours - I definitely want to move up from that!

I did the same thing you did and put in 3:30 hours because I had just started running and had no idea what my time would be. Since then, I have run a lot of races and have been training so I am feeling more prepared.

All you have to do is send an email to disneysports@trackshack.com and include the following information: The race, distance, your chip tinish time, and pacing. When I sent mine in, I also included the URL to the web page that contained the results of the race.

I heard you have to send in the email by November 1st or bring the race results with you at the expo.

I just ran a half marathon in September and emailed my time to Run Disney. They will send you the contact info for the people responsible for the times and you could then forward it to them. It took about 2 weeks to get it all settled but it made a difference in my expected finish time so that I could move up a bit in the corrals. :)

My daughter signed up today. She will be celebrating her 18th birthday that weekend. First half but she is an avid runner 2-3 miles 2-3 times a week. Plus the sports she plays. She has a 10K coming up in early November to get a qualifying time.

She won't have time to hang out here with an intense Senior year going on so I will be asking any questions she has. Hope you don't mind questions/advice that are elementary but like I said, she is a newbie to organized races.

My experience with time and corral changes:

The 2010 WDW half was my first. I don't recall if I put down 3:00 or 3:30 for my expected time. I did a 10k in November 2009. Too late for emailing changes. My pace was 12:25. I hoped it would be quick enough to spring me from corral G. Clutching my results, I went to the change lady at the expo. Nope, not quick enough. I persisted and she agreed 12:25 was in the F range, but moving to F wasn't an option. They didn't even have F bib stickers.

I spent a lot of energy fretting about starting in the back. I started in G and it was fine.

I would print out the results from your fastest race and bring it with you. This January when I ran the full one of my friends brought the printed results from a half he did and it was fast enough to move him into the C coral. I am not sure what times will put you where but he just brought his best time and let them figure it out.

You can email it in ahead of time but if you don't hear back they can do it at the expo.

In 2010 I walked the 8.3 mile part of the W&D with a 9:36mpm pace. That put me in Coral-B for the Half and Coral-C for the Full.

Per the espnwwos website, it looks like you actually have until November 15th.

"What if I have a better proof of time than when I first registered?
Please email your updated proof of time (include the race you registered for, your official race time, along with the year and name of the race) to disneysports@trackshack.com by November 15, 2011. After November 15, all proof of time updates must be made during the Expo at the Runner Relations booth."

I'm doing a 10K in Celebration on the 13th & hoping to have a good enough time to move up a little. :)

I am running/walking the half for the second year in a row in January. I am running again this year to raise money for Comfort Zone Camp, a bereavement camp for kids and teens who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling. After running this past year, I got bit by the half marathon bug and I can't wait for January. I'm also excited for the new 1/2 medal...

Ran 8 miles yesterday. Was a bit worried because I had been dealing with the start of achilles tendonits after a run a couple weeks ago. Changed up my orthotics and got some massage therapy to try and stop it before things got to bad.

Started of with a 5 min walk to warm up, got the legs loose and ready to go. Wasn't feeling any discomfort in the legs, felt good, decided to start a jog. Then 1/2 mile into the 8 mile run I noticed something on the path about 75 in front of me. There looking at me was a nice looking white tail deer.

Should have realized that it was going to be a good run after that. The trail I usually run parallels an old canal that is used for rowing and other flatwater sports. Along the route I crossed paths several other joggers, cyclists, and rowers. So, the run turned out to be a nice day. No discomfort and issues with the achilles. Wish all runs could be nice like that one.

The WDW 1/2 will be my first run, I have been debating about running a 10mile on Boxing Day (December 26th) just to get an official time and hopefully change up corrals. But, my concern is that with my luck I will slip on some ice at some point in that 10 miles and not be able to run at WDW. We shall see.

Happy running/walking,
Jon

it must be a sign! I ran my Long Run yesterday (8.2 miles) and I ran right up to a deer as well! I stopped to walk passed it and we just looked at one another until I started running again. It was an awesome moment!

May this be an omen that our first WDW Half Marathons are going to be epic experiences for us both! :thumbsup2

Just as long as I don't become the deer caught in the headlights at the starting line.

So I think I've been taking this Dopey training thing too seriously too soon. I ran my 3rd marathon today since I started training, and I can tell my body wants a break. How long can I take it easy before January if I want to simply finish all the races? I have a 1/2 on my calendar next month, but other than that my next races are Disney.

I got my 7 mile/17 mile training runs in this weekend.

I did the 7 miles Friday after work, and it went great. TOO great. I plan on walking most of the 1/2, so I wanted to do the 7 miles at a 15 min pace. I just couldn't do it, and ended up finishing them at a 14 min pace.

Saturday morning my son had a football game, so I went out for the 17 miles right from there at 10am. My goal was not to go faster than a 13min pace. Looking back, I should have had more for breakfast than a small bagel with a slice of cheese on it. In the first 2 miles, my right shin was hurting. It went away, though, and the next few miles were pretty uneventful. I was out on the paved bike path, and it was quiet. Too quiet. I did see a baby grass snake and 3 deer crossed the path. Boredom set in, and the hills were starting to wear me down. At mile 10, I got in the car and drove home.

I reapplied sunscreen, had 2 leftover chicken nuggets, and went back to my usual route. The neighborhood is flatter than the bike path, so I thought that may help. I made it another 3.5 miles, mostly walking, and my average pace dropped to around 14min. I just didn't have it in me. I made a bowl of ramen noodles, and felt better after eating them. I pulled it together, went out and finished the last 3.5 miles.

I'll call this a learning experience. 1. Don't go out too fast on the first run. 2. Do the first run in the morning, so you have more recovery time. 3. I think I'm going to have to schedule in some food for longer runs, not just sport beans. 4. I was dehydrated. I drank my usual amount, but I don't usually go out that late in the day and it was sunny. I downed a second 32oz Powerade Zero when I got home. That would usually send me running to the bathroom every 10 minutes. I realized about 3 hours later that I hadn't gone at all.

Only 3 more killer training weekends and one half-marathon in Vegas, then Goofy!

Have a great week!

To follow up on the question about submiting race results to Disney for corral placement:

I sent my email to Disney on October 19th, listing my race results from the Komen Race for the Cure 10K that I ran on September 24th. I included the name of the race, distance, my chip time, my race pace, and the URL to the race results page.

I just received a "Data Change Confirmation" email from Disney this afternoon, which showed my original finish time of 3:30 and my new finish time of 2:30 based upon the race results from the Komen Race for the Cure 10K. Yay! It worked!

So now, my corral placement will be based upon a 2:30 anticipated finish time that they calculated based upon my submitted race result.

no problem! I am not sure what the deadline is to change it though. I had no issues since it was in September and I was lucky enough that the woman I dealt with confirmed the time difference and that I would be moved up in the corals... I can tell you that you have to be precise when you ask them questions because their answers tend to be very generalized due to the volume of emails they get. Good luck either way !
