OFFICIAL Jan 2011 Half Marathon, Full Marathon, Dopey or Goofy Challenge Thread

The big issue with that approach is that the sidewalk along the canal is narrow and overly crowded and any extra foot traffic would make it even worse.

Umm, I guess I didn't even think that I would have to share the path with runners. Duh! Talk about not being able to see the forest for the trees! Thanks for your help, Coach!!

Ugh, I'm done. I did 9.5 miles last weekend and I planned to do 10 tomorrow, but my 4 month old DS and I both have colds right now. As if having a cold isn't bad enough, but also getting up all night to care for a sick child... no way 10 miles is happening.

So, I got close to my 10 mile long run so I'm not feeling bad about that, but I'm worried about a 3 week taper for a half marathon. Yikes.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Hi guys,

Just wanted to say that I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and are enjoying the holidays. We leave for Orlando in 4 days :yay: :yay: :yay: so hope you all have a fantastic new year and good luck for the marathon weekend, enjoy :cheer2:

Did my 10 miles yesterday....88 min. Woo hoo.

Hoping to do 11 next weekend. My calves were definitely feeling it by the end. Yikes.

On a different note...anybody have a sure fire ways to stop needing to go potty on the run? And I don't mean pee pee. Usually, I have to head into the house around mile 5, but I was able to *ahem* stave it off until I finished mile 10 yesterday. Would love to not have to stop on the race.

Sorry if this is TMI. :scared:

:lmao:Know where you are coming from. Think I'll start a liquid diet next Sunday.:lmao: Waiting to hear from the experts.

A few suggestions...

Lower your fiber intake the couple days pre race
Lower your overall carbs a little...
Make sure that you pre run carbs are more complex and less simple sugar.

At this point in time it's kind of late to make a whole lot of tweaks. I would also wait until after mile 5 on your next long runs to supplement on the run, assuming you have by then.

I am doing my first Goofy this year. We will be heading down to WDW on New Years Eve and I would like to get one more 10-12 miler on Sunday. I'm from Wisconsin so don't really know the Orlando area.

Anyone have a suggestion for a good place in or near WDW to get a long run in? Other than running laps around my resort?

I am staying at the Beach Club and will have a car, so I can drive somewhere off property.

There are a couple resort combinations that can get you your mile. But Florida is blessed with a few good to great rails to trails parks, also. One that I have run a few ti mes is the West Orange Trail. A link to the trail ... http://www.dep.state.fl.us/gwt/guide/regions/eastcentral/trails/west_orange.htm

A tri store, Try And Run or West Orange is a nice shop but also is located on the trail. So if you head to the store you will have a few folks to run with.

The trinrun website has a map link so you can judge if it is a place you want to pursue.

It's official. I have been released to RUN!!!!!!!!!

I just got back from the doctors office. I have flexor tendonitis of the tendon that ends the flexor digitorum longus muscle. Make sense? Anyway, I am free to run. He says he has never heard of anyone rupturing this by running through the pain. If I feel pain and want to quit, that would obviously be best, but he doesn't think I'll damage it anymore by running the races. He said that if I come back limping, he'll put me in a walking boot and make me heal properly, but since I'm in zero pain right now, I should go for it. He said he couldn't do a cortisone shot for this, so I'm on my own if I start hurting again. He wants me to do some short runs this week and see how I feel. But, I think it's great news. I didn't hurt my achilles, which makes me feel better. And, I'm not hurting right now, so that's all positive.

Now, I can just focus on obsessing over the weather and packing!!!

Excellent! Thanks very much for the suggestion. I'm looking forward to running in warm weather. This trail looks great.

By the way, we will be flying out of KCI on Jan. 6th on SWA? Could we possibly being going at the same time?

No, we'll alread be at Disney. We are leaving early morning on the 5th on SWA. Funny. Let's hope our weather is good, since it's looking like it'll be great in Florida. :)

We leave in 138 hours... but who's counting :yay:

Oh no! We're down to hours and I haven't started packing!!!! :lmao:
I am usually packed a month ahead (yes, I am one of 'those' people), but the weather has me waiting. I guess since I can check a total of 6 bags for free I should just bring it all, right?

Oh, and thanks everyone. :) I ran yesterday and no pain!!!! Only 3 miles, but it felt so good to get out there and run.

I definitely pack early for other trips, but not this one since Florida is just next door. Not flying commercially so it is nice to be a procrastinator. But, I am anxious about the weather. It is warming up quite a bit from being so cold and having snow of all things on Christmas. Keep it up Mother Nature! :cool1:

I just tried a new Gu Roctane flavor today during my long run just in case anyone is still searching for a more palatable flavor...it is Pineapple and luckily without Caffeine (I can't have caffeine which is challenging in the gel category). But, it was actually pretty tasty and I don't usually even like Pineapple! :)
