OFFICIAL Jan 2011 Half Marathon, Full Marathon, Dopey or Goofy Challenge Thread

Not hardly!

Depending on how your build up progression went and your race effort you may start to feel the effects at mile 11, but it's only two more miles.

As a frame of reference there is are a few full marathon programs that cap the long run at 16 miles.:scared1:

Yay! I should add my 15K will be in Central Park, which has HILLS! I'm figuring Cat Hill for the second time at Mile 8 will be a good measure/practice for the hill at that cloverleaf.

I hope so anyway. :P

This is my first half marathon. Am I going to be totally screwed if my longest run is only 11? I was following Higdon's plan, but did start a week early to add an extra long run at 11, but now I am getting nervous that I won't have done enough. I am generally right around a 9 min. pace.

For my first half my longest run was only 10. I didn't end up with a great time but I felt fine and plenty prepared.

Well, I ran today. I just couldn't hold off any longer. I only did 4 miles and I slowed it down to an 8:15 pace. I have no pain!!!!!:banana:
I think I'm going to do a few more short runs this week and go ahead and try for the 20 or 22 mile lr this Friday or Saturday. I can always call my hubby to come and get me if I feel any pain.

I'm just sooooooo happy to be running again. :woohoo:

Yeah! glad you are pain free!! :thumbsup2

this is my first 1/2 too and I am following Hidgons plan and I am only going up to 10.. the pixie dust will carry me the additional 3.1! :wizard:

The REAL link is up for bib numbers.... I saw it on run disney's facebook page!

http://www.trackshack.com/disneysports/wdw11waiver/verify.php

Just downloaded my bib number -- I'm 35915 for the half.

My hubby is 26773 for the half and 9048 for the full. Any idea where those numbers will shake out in regard to corral placement?

Hubby can always come into my corral, correct? I'm assuming I'll be behind him. He had a a time that would qualify for a higher corral placement.

Looking at the numbers of runners I am thinking about 2500 per corral so you are runner 15915 putting you in the 5-6th corral.

DH would be in the second corral on the half and 2nd or third on the full. (note estimating 2000 in the full)

Yes he can come back to your corral with no issue; a runner can always start in a corral behind their assigned corral.

Hi everyone. I finally got around to joining Disboards after reading it for years, and figured I might as well introduce myself here (I'm pretty late to the thread I know.) I have run just about every race short of the marathon in NYC this year, but this will by my first full marathon.

I'm 6305 in the full. So excited that it is almost here. Good luck to everyone on the rest of your training!

Welcome!!! I'm a newbie runner in NYC (well, started running in June/July...just joined NYRR in October). Given my late start, I haven't run a ton of races, but I've made up for it lately. You running the Corbitt on Sunday?

Welcome, this will be fun compared to the rough and tumble world of the NYRR events

how many people are let into the half and full?

I think they were planning on 22k fulls and 25k half runners this year. It looks like they have 18168 full runners, assuming the lower numbers fill with non-committed elites and 27686 half runners.

We've been here in WDW testing out the weather. Brrrr, sure hoping that it will improve just a bit before we get back here in Jan. I like the cooler running weather, but not quite this cold, freezing cold stuff. I live in that.

Hi Beth! Yes, I will be there Sunday. Last race for me until the 5K (running that with my boyfriend before going solo in the marathon.)

I started running 2 years ago and racing last year. Joined NYRR for the marathon credit and went a little race happy. 4 out of 5 halfs with them this year.

Okay, so I'm probably an idiot, but wouldn't 35915 be in the seventh corral?

It is person 15915.

1=1-25000
2=2501-5000
3=5001-7500
4=7501-1000
5=10001-12500
6=12500-15000
7=15001-17500

Just trying to work out the corral system.

Awesome!! :) I'll be walking the 5K with my sister on Friday and then doing the Half on Saturday. (Are you in Front Runners by chance? I know there are several FRNYers (me included) hitting the World.)

I hear you on race happy! The Kleinerman was my first official NYRR...and I did the Jingle Bell Jog, will do the Corbitt, and then do the Emerald Nuts as my first qualifying run..and then the first 3 that were available...well, not the Manhattan Half, I'm volunteering for that. At this rate I'll have my 9+1 for 2012 done before May. LOL. Waiting for Wednesday to hear about the NYC Half. GAH it's been a long month waiting!!

You should be definitely ready for the full!! :)

I tend to estimate downward a corral or two on the upper end? I am an engineer and math is my strong point? How about I redid the math in the middle of the post and really meant 3500 per corral? Looks like 27700 bibs in 8 corrals. so that works out to a higher value than I originally gestimated.

Would it help if I said that you will not know what corral you were in about 2 miles down the road due to catching some and being passed by others?

In all honesty only EMMI knows the poop and until/if the exact bib numbers are leaked we will all have to wait for the expo. The layout of the corrals is not even either. There tends to be slightly fewer set up in the first few corrals and more in the rear. This to allow for expo shifting of runners who bring in better proof of times during the expo.

Hope this helps.

I am not in FRNY. I have though of joining before though, would love to hear what you think of them. Maybe I need some convincing. I did The Joe and Jingle Bell Jog as well (PR at Jingle Bell, although I lost my bells at mile two.). Hoping I get in the half as well, I didn't last year. I got my 9 in April, so you ought to be good by spring if you keep up at this pace.

I will probably run the Manhattan Half this year again, although I did not sign up yet. I feel ready, have been doing my long runs in the park so a flat course should be a piece of cake after that.

I'll PM you with FRNY info! :) It's a great group!!

Well got the same crappy numbers at the "official" wavier link so based on the "corral placement theory" I figure I will be starting somewhere beyond the 7 and last corral - Maybe I won't have to get up so early to get into that corral - :lmao: :rotfl2:
