Official 'how to get from point A to point B while at WDW' thread.

Our first trip to Disney is in a few weeks and I want to make sure that we do not run into any issues with transportation getting to our Character Breakfasts and parks each day. I would really appreciate any thoughts on the best means of transportation to get to our destinations and the amount of lead time we may need for each. We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge and our daily schedule is as follows. Thank you!

Monday - 9:30 am Crystal Palace (I'm thinking water taxi to MK)

Tuesday - 8:10 am Akershus Royal Banquet Hall (Epcot) then to Hollywood in PM

Wednesday - Downtown Disney

Thursday - 7:20 am - Chef Mickey's (CR) then to Animal Kingdom for the day

Friday - 7:40 am - Ohana (Poly) then to MK

We're sadly aren't going to be staying at a Disney Resort this time but we were wondering if you can park at one of the magic kingdom area hotels so we can look around preferably the Polynesian And to go to Magic Kingdom. Is this possible for us to do because I know there is a guard at the hotels.

You CAN park at any of the resorts to explore them and eat there. You CANNOT park at the resorts and then go to the parks.

Monday...leave WL by 8:00. Yes that seems early, but there could be a wait for the boat, both at WL and at the MK. Leave no later than 8:30.

Tuesday...leave WL 7...latest. Take the bus to Epcot. It will take you about 15+ mins to walk back to Akershus! These early buses tend to come less frequently than regular buses do....you might want to be out at the Epcot bus stop no later than 6:45.
Then to get to DHS later that day, you can take a Friendship boat from the International Gateway (back door) at Epcot...takes about 25 mins once you are on the boat and leaving the dock. Or, you can walk....exit Epcot at the IG, walk up the hill, go left over the bridge. You are now at Boardwalk. When you get to the boat dock, across from the Village Green, go left (towards the Green). Stay to the right and as you pass Wyland Galleries, go right, thru the passage way. Stay to the left of the pool area/slide, you will come to the walkway to DHS...go left and keep on walking. It takes under 20 mins from Epcot to DHS.

Wednesday....bus to DTD. Time on bus is about 15 mins.

Thursday...the boat 'should' be up and running to the CR. be on the dock shortly before 7 (I would actually ask a boat CM the day before, what time the boat to the CR starts running). Or bus to MK and walk over to the CR. the walk takes under 10 mins, the bus takes about 10-15. Then, hop on the AK bus at the CR.

Friday...boat to the CR, monorail to the Polynesian. Again, you need to find out what rime they start running. In any case, the boat may not get you to the Poly in time. You might be better off taking the bus to the MK, at 6:45, then the monorail to the Poly.

Hope this helps a little.

Parking at resorts and then going to a park is for those staying at that resort. You are not supposed to park there for more than a few hours if you aren't staying there.
Now, because you aren't staying at a WDW resort, you have to pay to park. So, it is perfectly fine to pay for valet parking at a resort and then head to a park for the day!

Doing the KTTK tour at 8:30 on a morning that MK opens at 9:00. We're staying at POR and I've heard various reports that the timing of the buses can be "sketchy", for want of a better word. When I called the WDW Tours people about another issue, I asked about transportation, and was told it begins an hour before park opening. What's the real deal? I'll be using an ECV, so can't really take a taxi.

Thanks.

Buses start running at 6:30 every day.

Not sure what 'sketchy' means regarding transportation. But...the buses work just fine. They start running by 6:30 each morning. It amazes me that WDW employees consistently give out not so great info. So, to get to your tour at 8:30, you need to be out at the MK bus stop by 7. Why so early? These buses don't run quite as often as regular buses do. So, if you just miss a bus, it could be 20+ mins before the next one comes. So being there at 7 gives you plenty of time. You should be at the tour desk by 8:15 to get all checked in. Getting there by 7:45-8:00 allows you to enter the park, without rushing, use the rest rooms and maybe get a nice photo or two of a somewhat empty park.
You'll love the tour..it's a favorite of mine.

Best way to get from Shades of Green to POR?

We will be staying at SoG for one night and then checking in at POR early the next day.

I'm sure this has been answered somewhere, but wow, 188 pages?!

What's the fastest way to get from AK to Downtown Disney? I know we'll need to transfer at a resort, but which resort would be fastest?

I think Pop Century is the best choice - It's on the way and their bus service is really good.

You could also take the bust to Saratoga springs and walk, but it can be very confusing if you aren't familiar with the layout of the resort.

If SOG will transfer your bags, take the SOG shuttle to DHS & then Disney Transport to POR. If you have to handle your own baggage, you'll probably want a taxi.

Currently, the 1st bus to DHS leaves SOG at 8 a.m.

There 'may' be buses running that will get you there...but it won't be quick. There are buses that are basically heading to DTD late at night, from BW, that will stop at other resorts in order to get guests back to their resort from BW. But those buses may make many stops along the way.
AoA is less than an 8 min cab ride from BW...cost is around $10...I would just take a cab.

One of the days I have planned for MK will be spent between the park & taking breaks to explore a couple resorts in the area. If I want to go from MK to Poly, my thoughts are that it will be quicker to take the boat there since it's the third monorail stop but taking the monorail back to MK will be quicker since on the resort loop, MK will be the first stop. Am I right?

If you take the boat, it will go to the GF first, then to the Polynesian. The monorail stops at the GF after leaving the Polynesian, then goes on to the MK. You could also take the ferry if it's there and loading....when it gets to the TTC, you can just walk over to the Polynesian.

Ok. I hadn't thought about taking the ferry there from MK. Thanks!

I must've been there when it was busier b/c the couple different times I took the boat from MK to Poly, it didn't stop at GF. Maybe I'm getting it confused w/the ride back to MK but I do not remember it stopping there. :confused3
