I saw something on Sci-Fi the other night...they're showing the pilot episode tonight (Friday) at 7.

Then Doctor Who after that!

... lousy rassin frackin Compost -- err, Comcast for moving Sci-Fi from basic to digital cable a month after the initial Battlestar Galactica miniseries where's the Elvis shooting the tv smilie ah well this will do :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: ....

Okay, getting back on subject --- :teeth:

What the show's concept really reminds me of ... and this will really show who the real comic book geeks are here on this board ... is Marvel's New Universe line from the 1980s. The NU was a new line separate from the main continuity with Spider-Man, the X-Men, and others, that was supposed to be much more reality-based. Very few had colorful outfits with capes, some had code names but even joked about how comic bookish they sounded, the characters were to age naturally instead of being frozen in time, etc. Anyone else remember this?

Did they have one series where a guy received a mark from some alien which gave him super powers? I think the guys name was Tensen. If that was part of the NU series, then yes I remember it. I liked those too, but they never really seemed to catch on.

That one series was called "Star Brand". The guy that received the mark was named Ken Connell. Tensen was the main character in another series called "Justice". (had to google those tidbits) IIRC, it started with about 8 different series but was cut in half after about a year, and the entire line phased out after close to 3 years.

The series that "Heroes" most reminds me of was "DP7". Seven ordinary people affected by a cosmic event that grants superhuman abilities to random people end up at a clinic set up to help said people learn to live with and control their abilities, but they go on the run once they find out the director has other plans. IMO it was the best of the line, mainly because it had a nice balance of appealing characters and interesting plots.

Okay, I'll get off that subject now and tone down the geek factor. :teeth:

The weekly TV section in today's paper has a description of this Monday's episode, which introduces the cop, but (highlight for spoilers) it describes his power as "awesome hearing", not mind reading.

That whole thing was done by James Patterson, too, in When the Wind Blows and then subsequently with The Lake House and the Maximum Ride series. Only his band of super-humans had wings and the skeletal structure of birds. The mutations were genetically made in a lab and then implanted into women to make them pregnant. When they were born, the mothers were told that the infants died at birth but they were taken to the lab to be raised and studied. Each of them had different powers and strengths. The first 2 books were very good. The MR series lacks greatly in comparison, IMHO.

That's it. I remember all 3 now. And yes, I enjoyed DP7 as well.

I'm not a big sci-fi fan, and I only watched this show last week cause it was the only thing on that caught somewhat of an intrest in me, but I liked it. I'll be tuning in next week.

I love Claire's character and am really wondering what is going on with Niki's character. I think her reflection is somehow its own being seperate from her.

Ok....can't wait to watch tonight!!! Hope it is as good as last week. I have to tape it though and watch it later....I have a another commitment on every Monday night. :thumbsup2

Let's see what connections we can make here.

First, did I miss something about the Indian prof? I didn't think he came directly from India to the US, or did I miss something at the beginning of the ep with his location being shown during the lecture?

Who do we have here in NY so far...

We know the prof is there. As are the brothers and the precog guy. And Hiro is now in NYC.

Claire is in Texas, and the stripper is in Las Vegas, isn't she? And we don't know where the cop is.

But we have a connection between Claire and the NYC group through her dad.

The prof was in India giving a lecture on his father's work. His father was in NY, as his research lead him to believe "victim zero" so to speak, would or already has started there. Prof then learned of his father's death, and went to collect the data...and continue the work.

He was gathering what he could when he saw Claire's father eyeglasses at his father's apartment when he bolted. That was the first time we saw Claire's dad, or adopted dad, not sure which yet....

Can anyone tell me what happened in the last 15 mminutes. My Tivo has been NOT recording the endings of shows lately....thanks

We found out that Claire's father is trying to find her birth parents for her, although he warned her that it could take a long time to find them. He revealed to us, after she left the room that he is the one who took the tape of her heroic recoveries.

The politician's brother also has the ability to fly. When he was arguing that his brother was just telling him what he wanted to hear, his brother pointed down and the younger one was levitating.

Good show... you can watch it again on Friday night, 7:00, on the Sci Fi Channel. I made sure of that because my kids needed sleep as colds are going around. I didn't want them up until 10.

Hey everyone! I'm a little confused here. Was the cop's segment in Hiro's "5 weeks ahead" future? Or was that supposedly current time?

I don't think we have enough information to know just yet. If I had to guess, I would say the cop's segment was current time. But like I said, just a guess. I really like this show.

Good show so far.

My theories:

The politician's brother also has the ability to fly. When he was
arguing that his brother was just telling him what he wanted to hear,
his brother pointed down and the younger one was levitating.

I think the politician's brother is a "bad guy" sent to watch his brother, who has the greater power, whatever it is. I also think he MADE his brother levitate to mess with his mind.

I also think the Prof's son helper neighbor is bad, as well as the blonde cop who arrested the telepath cop.

I think Hiro WAS in the future. The frozen person with the brain removed is a means for the bad guys to trace the "mutants" in my opinion. The small girl who was missing last night probably has some power, that we will find out about later. Anyway, Hiro looked at a newspaper, which was Nov 8, the election and saw who won. Also, the "event" is supposed to happen then, apparently. Hiro couldn't control that transport for some reason as he didn't realize he was that far in the future. At the end, apparently he returned to his time and place (Tokyo).

Good theories. I wondered about the politician being one of the bad guys, too. Thought the same thing about the lady who arrested the cop.

It didn't cross my mind about the neighbor lady. But, now that you mention it, when there was that thud from the bookcase, it seemed like she knew someone was there watching them and that she used the lizard as a decoy. Could a small lizard make that much noise?

Ok, first off, I have to say I REALLY like the show. Very interesting, deep characters that aren't just fighting for "truth, justice, and the American Way". Always nice to have a little complexity and conflict in a show like this.

I do have one complaint, though. All that said, what's with the whole "gross out" vibe? I'll grant that it does follow the recent trend in graphic novels, but man...there is no WAY I would let my kid watch this show, and if the kind of crap they pulled last night continues, DW probably will not watch, either. Mangling fingers in a garbage disposal? Sawing people's heads in half? Nailing bloody bodies to the wall? It IS possible to portray a dark mood without getting that freaking graphic (see "Lost", "X-Files", and any number of other shows). If people want to watch that crap, they can turn to CSI-Topeka or one of it's hundred seventy three knockoffs.

The show shows a lot of imagination, and the story and characters are fascinating. But if the gore factor isn't dialed down a bit, I'll be watching it by myself...if I bother to go to the trouble. The show is good enough that it doesn't need that crap to keep anyone's interest.

Did anyone notice the squiggly F looking thing that kept popping up? I wonder if they're putting in easter eggs like they did in Lost the first season when no one knew to look for them.

I saw it on a couple of the paintings when Hiro went into Isaac's studio, and then when the guy was looking at the code on the computer, you could sorta see it in the pattern, and then (this might be stretching a little, but I saw it because I was fixated) when it switches to the crime scene, the thing in the pool has, like, a similar symbol.

I actually posted this on another forum I'm at, and someone mentioned that it sort of looked like a lizard...I wonder if Lizard Mohinder has more meaning than we thought, or if he's just a mascot for things.

Ooooor, I'm just nuts and have been watching too much Lost.

Oh, and also, I just thought to wonder this...do we have any idea what the timeline was for Claire's dad being in NY (where we saw his glasses) and then being in Texas at the end of episode 1? Does he have the ability to teleport himself too? Or fly really fast? Or was he just coming home from a business trip and it was a few hours or days later?? :confused3

Wasn't Claire's dad in India too? Maybe I'm confusing myself. I thought the young Indian guy rented the dad's apartment in NY but before he got there he was going through his dad's things in India too?
