Official Glass Slipper Challenge Thread

Funny story about missing toe nails. I go and get pedicures once a month. The last time I was in the midst of training the lady that does my feet was horrified at my missing toe nails and black toe nails:crazy2: she kept asking me why I keep running if I keep messing up my toes. I told her because its so fun!!! She was not buying that at all!!!!

I wear injinji toe socks now to help my toes stay splayed. I only get my shoes a half size up, I just don't like big, floppy shoes.

Yep, you dont want them floppy at all! But if you do have a problem with toenails then some brands have wider toe boxes, Saucony is one of them. Your shoe shouldnt move at all on your foot but you shoudl be able to spread your toes out.... Gee can you tell I live in Nike country and sold shoes for a LONG time?

You beat me to it! It's such an awesome group of people. When I first got my number and accepted I got over 80 posts on FB welcoming me. It's pretty amazing how quickly you get a response from all these very experienced runners. I'm a total newbie and got accepted into the first level for doing 3 halfs in 43 days. That's nothing compared to what some of these people do! One gal just did her 52nd half in 52 straight weeks...... !!!

I was checking into the group at the expo. The guy who was there on Saturday has completed 185 marathons!!!! I told him I was only 1/2 crazy! I've completed 2 fulls but that was before I discovered that I liked 1/2s a lot more!

darn! I'm miss the "3 halves in 90 days" by 3 days!!

I've never lost a toenail (or gotten black toenails) and I also don't go up a half size or full size in my running shoes. I wear a 7.5 in regular shoes, I wear a 7.5 in running shoes.

If I move up even half a size, the shoes are too floppy, my feet slide around too much, and I get plantar fascitis! I'd rather risk losing toenails than having that again!

Alright, you just convinced me to send in my info! I have qualified since last year...figured why not?

I missed it by 7 days this year, darn! Although I've done 2 half's in 7 days twice in the past.

According to the person at the booth, prior years count. They go back and verify the results and approve your membership.

LOVE that I might be getting some new Half Fanatic Brothers and sisters!!! The Facebook page, once you are accepted, is awesome!!!! I wore my HF shirt last week and TONS of people cheer you along.... pretty cool. You know how amazing the running community is right? Amplify that times 10 that's how this group is!

Let's talk about what to wear!

For those of you who've done Princess race weekend before, do the costumes only consist of princess movie characters, or are other non-princess movies/characters represented as well? I know I've seen lots of other great costumes all over the internet. I just wasn't sure if that applies to the princess races too.

This will be my first so I can't comment on past races, just on my plans. For the Enchanted 10K I'll be dressed up as a Disney Princess (Ariel), but for the Princess Half I'll be dressed up as Captain America. My friend and I are running as a team, Team Avengers, so we're embracing that and she's going as Iron (wo)Man! :thumbsup2

There are tons of costumes, all varieties. Saw a number of princess leia's too.

Any costume will do!

I'm going to be Sheldon Cooper- lol- and my friend April is Amy Farrah Fowler for the 10k. Team Shamy!

For the half I think I'm going as fat Elvis (unless I lose a ton of weight! lol) and my friend Julie (saysay) is going to be Lilo.

Thanks for the info on the half fanatics club! Looks like I will have to plan on doing more 1/2s this year so I can join the club!:)

That's my plan. I have a half marathon training program that will end weeks before the half weekend. Then I'll just start pairing long runs back to back. And separated short runs twice a week with cycling in between.

HI everyone! OK so I'm doing this darn GSC but I'm scared to death and a little obsessed! I have a 10k and a half coming up the first and second week in July. Running the 10K for a time to submit to rD and mostly walking the half to get an idea how far and how fast I can actually expect to go. SOooooo, today I'm in the gym progressing nicely (I thought) on my Galloway 10K app. Today was my longest distance EVER. I made it through 8 miles. My time at 10.4K was 1:19'27 which according to my Nike+app is 12:17 pace. I'm good with that but this run took everything out of me, I just know I'm going to be very sore tomorrow. I guess that is why I'm preparing now, right? Does it get better/easier? Can I really expect to run a half, ESPECIALLY right after a 10k (P.S. I'm 55 yrs young!). The app sometimes discourages me because he keeps saying you should finish strong...NOT feeling strong right now...BUT I did finish. If I go much slower I feel like I'll get picked up by the balloon ladies! Give me some hope please

Most absolutely you can do the Glass Slipper! Lookit where you're at right now - 8 miles is WONDERFUL!! Plus, you have almost 8 MONTHS to get more confident in your abilities - I think you'll rock :)
