G'day...Our trip so far........

Well we are here... well got here on Sunday actually, but couldn't remember my pass word for the forum till now....flight was a tad rough in spots, sooooooo long 13 hours is longer than you imagine. I was ready to jump out at the 6 hour mark, I slept some, daughter didn't, she was quite tired I wasn't - I told her to sleep, she regretted not listening to me.

Checked in to motel and hit the parks, knew if we stayed at the motel my daughter would have snoozed all day - HUGE mistake, so packed, people everywhere, we couldn't even get close to a ride let alone jump on one, really thought we had made a huge mistake coming, thinking every day was going to be that bad. Over heard a lady comment that it was a slow day, OMG the place was packed!!!!

Saw the fireworks from top floor of motel that first night, that was great to see.

Went back in the Monday, soooo much better, could walk about, went on some rides, did some shopping, planned to go back to motel in afternoon, rest up and head back for tea, but time flew by and we never actually left till closing.

Tuesday went to Citadel for shopping, bit of a let down.

Ice hockey was beyond spectacular, totally awesome...OMG the atmosphere was so electric, was sad when the game ended, daughter went in a penguins fa pn and came out a fully fledged Ducks fan.

Wednesday was back at Disney and today did a L A Tour.

Jet lag hasn't hit yet, so hoping we have avoided that, today was the first day I could a full half share of a meal. The meals are huge, so we share, but I have been feeling nauseous each meal, so so glad to eat a full half share, finally, as i was getting quite hungry.

Have been asked many times "where are you from, what is that accent" so many ppl think England and daughter even got asked if she was from New Zealand....lol one shop assistant told us how lucky we are to be Aussies "because we have kangaroos" when we told her, we have them on out front lawn often, she asked if we played/pat them....lol..we replied "no, you do not approach them as they can seriously harm/kill you". She was horrified, poor girl, think we ruined her vision/idea of cute cuddly kangaroos...lol

So glad I never hired a car, the traffic is insane, we enjoy dawdling up to the parks and back.

Got a pic of the castle all lit up from the back, it was partly covered with that hessian tarp, but you could still make out the lighting of the top half at night, so glad I got that one, it now has a painted white tarp surrounding it.

Sorry this is so long, got a bit carried away, We still have a week to go, not looking forward to the plane ride home, dreading that.

Have a few tours planned for the rest of our stay, plus a few more Disney days, have yet to see Fantasmic, So hoping to see that soon. Cheers

Sorry the flight was so long but you made it! :cheer2:

I sounds like you are having a good time so far and I totally agree with you on the size of the meals, they are really big!

Planned trip at GCH with the DIS Divas from Tuesday February 24th thru March 1, and an almost last minute crazy drive out play and drive back day coming up this Sunday!

I am so jealous that you are close enough to do a day trip, I've added both of your plans to the first page.

Last day at work. It will be looooooong.

Ditto! I feel very sorry for my son's teacher and aide, there is no way he is going to concentrate at school, he is so excited! :dancer:

We leave tomorrow!!!! Today is going to be long too.... first grade, Friday, no specials today.... my sub plans are done but I need to make sure I am totally set. My student teacher from the fall is subbing for me, so that is nice. If I miss something, she knows the drill!

Glad to hear you trip is going so well and that you were able to get a little peak of the castle. woo-hoo! Hope your so tired by the time you step on the plane that you sleep a majority of the way home. Enjoy your next week!!!

PS- I think you ruined my opinion of cuddly kangaroos too! ;)

I am going to say 14 days rather than 16 days since we are leaving on a Sunday I feel like my vacation will really start when I leave work for the day on the 20th! We will be very busy the Saturday before we leave with packing, getting our dogs to the dog sitter, exchanging all the coins we have been saving at coinstar, and doing some last minute shopping. We decided that on Sunday we are going to get up early go have a good breakfast, come home load the car, and go. The hour time difference is going to really work in our favor for this trip. Once we get checked in I plan on getting cleaned up, then depending on the time either off to our early dinner or for a drink at Trader Sams then to dinner. I am excited we have Sunday evening/night to hang out in DTD and explore.

12 days for us!!! 11 until we leave for the hotel by the airport. 6 days until I am on vacation! 4 more work days (after today). WoOhoO!!!!!

Work is done! Work is done! Yippie! :jumping2:

Eyebrows, mani and pedi tomorrow followed by laundry and packing then we are off Sunday afternoon!

We leave in the morning!!!

I packed up for myself and the kids. Filled the car up with gas. Packed the snack bag too.
We will head into the parks tomorrow evening for a little while then Sunday morning meet up with some friends and their kiddos.
Talked my brother and his girlfriend into joining our trip too so this weekend will be filled with fun and leaving our worries on our doorstep as we leave.

Can't wait to be in the parks!!! The kids just found out we are going and are just over the moon excited.

I bought a vera hipster bag on our last trip as we were leaving so I'm thrilled to be able to use it tomorrow in the parks!!! yahoo!!!

I am so excited!!!!

I am hoping to sleep all the way home too, sorry to have ruined the cuddly kangaroo's image for you, but in no way are they cuddly....they can rip you to shreds and can kill you, the big ones are quite nasty, is not an often occurrence, but it does happen.

That is cute, the small ones are fine, just don't try to do that with a larger one...lol. We get them, all the time in our front yard, they can be both cute and scary, you can never take your eyes off the them.....

Talking about cute, we saw a hedgehog at sea world today....YIPEE...she was such a cute little thing. We were at the animal area looking/enthralled by the screech owl - owl obsessed daughter - and we saw the pictures on the wall of the other animals they have in there. An assistant came out and was talking to us about the owl, we asked if the hedgehog was going to make an appearance, we were told not today, he asked if we were coming back to the zoo and where were we visiting from, we told him Australia and the we had not planned to return to the park, he told us to wait a minute.....a few minutes later he returned with the little hedgehog......she was adorable!!!!!

We have seen squirrels, a hedgehog, only chipmunks left to see.....

Come on up to Victoria, we often get squirrels in our back yard. My son loves to put out bowls of nuts for them!

Come to Canada, we have moose and beavers and I often have to chase deer out of my yard because they eat my plants! (and we don't live out in the middle of nowhere, we are 5 minutes from downtown)

Oh we would love to, that sounds amazing...all we get is rabbits, Roos and snakes...

we don't exactly live in the middle of nowhere, close but not right in it...lol we live in a smallish town, it is just that our house is across from a bush area, though it isn't unheard of to see kangaroos hopping down the main street.

Oh rabbits...we have two areas of town that have big rabbit problems, the University of Victoria and Victoria General Hospital. I am happy to say that snakes are not a big issue here!

Victoria only has a population of around 80k but when you take in the outlying areas, the population of Greater Victoria is a bit over 344k. Not huge but when you think that the population of the entire island we are on is a bit more double that, it starts to feel like a semi big city!

We get two different types of snakes every summer, they just happen to be two of the most deadly ones too, we had a brown snake trying to get my kitten through the glass backdoor the other week.

As for population....uhm we are a tad smaller than you with 25,000 ppl in the town/area...so just a tad smaller...lol... Couldn't believe the amount of driving lanes, both yesterday going into LA, and today going to San Diego...there was loads of traffic, never seen traffic like it...most I drive on is two lanes dual carriage way, once in a blue moon. So glad I didn't hire a car here....phew....lol

Long time follower, first time poster to disboards. Usually stick to wdwmagic boards since I am a Disneyworld vet.

We are going Feb 13th-20th, staying GCH

Early entry is 7am on 14th-16th, what time do people usually start showing up for 7am entry? We are early risers even with a 2 year old so plan to take advantage of the early times like we do at Disneyworld.

Welcome to the boards and to this thread!

The only time we ever made it to a 7am early entry was when our visit coincided with the time change. It was lovely, the park was quite empty and most rides were walk on. My general rule of thumb is to try and be past security 30 minutes before opening so for you that would be 6:30am.

Is this your first time to DLR?

Last trip for me was almost 12 years, my brother's family have been a few times in the last 6 years so we have someone that can guide us if need be

Just finished placing our Vons order. Excited to try this, as we have never done so before. The water itself makes it worthwhile & I figured we can pack any extra snacks down to the San Diego part of our trip.:car: My DD10 who loves to journal & write has been already writing about her trip and the things she plans to do. This weekends adgenda (aside from kids sports LOL) is to do laundry & get ready for Valentines day for kids/schools. DH is out of town this week for work so I will be extra busy juggling work/kids/activities myself, which should definitely help time pass.:hourglass Ordered some cool puzzle books for DD on Amazon & the earplanes came for the ears. :sail: Less than 3 weeks to go!

I am in my room at the Grand Cal! We had a great day, drove from Phoenix, got in the parks around 2. Our first goal was Anna and Elsa and we secured fast passes for 5:00. We also got fast passes for the sing along 5:30 show. We covered Bugs Land and saw the Disney Jr. show while we waited. We snacked at the Cozy Cones and I had the apple freeze for the first time.... YUM!!! The park is more crowded than I was expecting... But it is Sat and we usually get here at rope drop. Anna and Elsa were wonderful. My daughter was in heaven. She sang along at the sing along which was adorable. My son tolerated all the Frozen stuff and enjoyed the rides we did. Tomorrow is Disneyland!!
