*****Official February 2015 Thread! Come check in and chat!*****

Okay I have another question (sorry), which may not fit into this particular thread/forum (again sorry), but, here we go.

(Can you tell who the DLR newbie is??)

DD5 and I arrive at LAX at about 11AM PST. Hop the shuttle bus (11:45) to the hotels in Anaheim, arriving most likely around 12:30 - 1PM.

We get checked in, and then have the afternoon and evening free. Besides just chilling and relaxing at the hotel, would it be worth while to rent a car for 1 day and drive to San Diego for the Zoo or LA for UDH or???

Basically I am looking for ideas to keep us busy and see some of the sights/attractions near Disney.

I am doing everything Disney on Friday to Sunday so looking for something fun for us to do Thursday afternoon/evening.

Thanks in advance

We are planning on dinner at Goofy's kitchen & maybe some downtown disney shopping the day we get in. If you wanted a little further trip Midievil Times would be fun or a trip to the beach (about 30 min away depending on traffic) could also be fun. We too won't plan too much as traveling is an ordeal for our family too...however we arrive shortly before 2:00 pm pacific time, so I too figured we have a bit of time to head out for awhile.

San diego Zoo is definitely out of the question, approx 2 hours away (x2there and back). They are not open as late this time of year, you would not only not get your moneys worth, but would most likely have a very late return time on your 1st night prior to starting parks.

On arrival day I would definitely NOT drive to San Diego. It's a 1.5 hour drive and the zoo is only open until 5 so you wouldn't have enough time to really experience it. That being said if you have enough time the zoo is awesome!! I'm driving down myself on one of my non-Disney days.

Personally when I travel I always hit the parks on my arrival day, though I know many don't. I do, because I like to just walk around, go on a ride or two and just kind of hang out. I also found it fun because there was no pressure to get up for magic morning, etc and my kid could just kind of "ease" into things. I've also done this when travelling with my son (he's now 5 and we've gone about 7 times since he was 16 months) every trip.

If you didn't want to do Disney you could check out the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. I've never been myself, but I bet it'd be fun and you could easily rent a car in DTD (about $40 for the day) and go. Here's a link: http://www.aquariumofpacific.org

I know! My kids couldn't eat those until like 2.5!

Would I go to San Diego on arrival day? Heck no! It's a pretty long drive. And I wouldn't want to get stuck in any work traffic since it's a weekday. It would so not be worth it for a short time at the zoo. If you want something to do, I'd just wander Downtown Disney or the hotels something. Or even just add an extra day to my park tickets.

I agree with others who responded to Tygers about things to do on arrival day. If you're getting to your hotel at 1:00 pm, either add a day to your Disney tix, or just do Downtown Disney and get to bed early so you can be at the gates first thing in the morning.

Regarding this whole refurb thing, it really doesn't need to be the "we're pissed" group against the "we're over it" group. Everyone is unhappy about closures. I think y'all should respect the wishes of the fine individual who started this thread and has contributed an awful lot of time and resources to it, and knock off the negativity and bantering. Someone suggested a separate thread to gripe - I think that's a great idea. Everyone on this thread knows what's going on if they've read it - its not news, and continued discussion is clearly bringing some people down.

And now that I've participate in the very thing I'm condemning, y'all have a nice day! :littleangel:

Bummed about the castle didn't this happen last time for the 50th around the same time? I don't think it was terrible. We are lucky we get to go a few times so we just can't see it this time but I just love being there. We are going for part of our honeymoon and I really wanted some pics in front of it! Boo.
I don't think the refurbs seem that bad ( for the time ) but im just hoping they don't add more. Ahh. I really wanted to do the world of color dinner as a special thing for our honeymoon but that's not going to happen either so I need to find some other Disney Magic for our trip! I'm big fan of the slower time and missing a few rides just seems more peaceful. Haha. I am so glad that the park is open till 11 so far the day we arrive because last time it closed at 8 and that was a bummer. So hopefully everyone still has a good time going :) it's Disneyland after all.

****edit this is from my weird Disney iPhone mystery calendar, I have no idea what's right or wrong :) *****

so do we know if the castle will be completely covered in February or just the walk through will be closed?

I'm ok with the walk through being closed it will royally suck if the castle is covered.

The park looks to close at 8pm on all weekdays (except Friday.)

According to some CMs over the phone, it will be covered in a tarp.

"Knock off the negativity and bantering?" Good lord. I'm going to start posting elsewhere now. Adios! If anyone cares to chit-chat with me...I'll be sticking to my pre-trip report now.

Have nice trips, all! :) I've really enjoyed chatting with most of you the past few months!

I wake up to find that this thread is really starting to remind me of this:

So, I'm going to just skip over any posts about closures and how bad or not bad they are and just pay attention to the ones that are about ANYTHING else! :thumbsup2

On that note, if you are not on the first post and want to me or I have put incorrect info there please let me know and I will fix it!

oh okay. That's sad. I just googled the closure for the 50th. It looks like it was covered in a tarp for most of the year? Is that what may happen this time? Or is it only covered for a month or so?

The 18th of February? I didn't think the calendar was out past Feb 14th yet?
Yes! I stalk the site. I'm obbessed. Haha. I have to idea how to attach a pic here or I would screenshot it. Must be planning on a busier week then.

I thought the calendar from the Disneyland website was real? Is it not or something? I'm not getting the confusion I look at it from my iPhone or iPad.

Iwent back and edited my post. To show the two different calendars for the same date. One has hours one doesn't and one has different attractions closed than the other one. This is the confusion that I think I'm having is why there's such a difference when they both say Disneyland.Disney.go.com

Oh gotcha! That is weird that the other one says different Info! Now I'm confused :confused3 I usually always use the same way to look at the calendars and I haven't had any difference so hopefully now it stay the same! So strange.

This might be the calendar she's talking about. I phoned a CM at Disney and CM just told me he couldn't find this calendar so I don't know why this one's a Mystery calendar but I can find this one and a very different one with different refurbs on my iPhone.

Not sure why so different:

The one that shows hours up to Feb 18th is an odd one, it shows hours but does not show Early Admission for either park past Feb 14th. That is what leads me to think that it is not accurate. I know it's an odd thing to focus on, but I know for a fact that there is Early Admission to one of the two parks every single day.

So strange. Well time will tell. Sorry to start some confusion! I just always use my iPhone!
