*****Official February 2015 Thread! Come check in and chat!*****

My kids have only napped in their stroller at Disneyland. It took a lot of walking to get them to fall asleep and even then they only napped for 30 minutes! Our day we stay in the park, we will try to get my 2.5 year old to nap, but won't count on it. I always envy those kids passed out in the tiny umbrella stroller!

I don't think Superbowl Sunday should make it more crowded. If anything, I bet it would be less crowded because so many people stay home or go to superbowl parties.

Not by what I read, this year it was very crowded. Apparently everyone assumes it will be quite, so they all head to DL.

Last year I was at WDW for Super Bowl Sunday and the Super Bowl was on the East Coast. The night of the Super Bowl was pretty light but I did avoid Magic Kingdom the next day because of the parade.

Same thing this year I bet with Super Bowl in AZ the parade will be at DL.

Of course I never dreamed Seahawks would be in it. Note what state I live in. We had dinner reservations at Be our Guest and I kept getting updates on the score during dinner.

We haven't been to DLR for the Superbowl but I was just assuming the crowds would be light like at WDW...which we have been to during the Superbowl.

I've only been to Disneyland in December/January so I'm curious, do Disney decorate or have Easter merchandise/food? Knowing how early they set up for holidays, will there be anything for Easter in Feb/March?

Here is a write up that one of the mods here did about her Easter experience this past Easter.

I wanted to come back to this thread and report on my Easter/Spring experiences (or is it... eggs-periences?:rotfl2:) yesterday at DLR, as I know I was saying here last year that I wasn't sure what DLR would do for Easter in 2014.

I'm sure that everyone who follows the Disney Parks Blog, The DIS and any other Disney-related site heard that the Easter egg hunt would be returning to DLR this year, and that the Springtime Roundup would be in full swing. That was all I needed to know! I missed the egg hunt last year, but this year I was determined to do it. I love a good holiday activity, and this was right in my wheelhouse!

Fellow DIS'er funatdisney and I did both egg hunts at DLR yesterday -- the one in Disneyland and the one in California Adventure. I must say -- I love Easter-ish things anyway, but this was so much fun to do at DLR! I think that hunting for anything in a large, detailed, multi-faceted, crowded place such as DLR is a naturally exciting thing to do, which is why scavenger hunts are so popular as well.

Most of the eggs were pretty easy to spot -- especially in DCA. The maps basically tell you where they are. I would not mind it if the egg hunt was more challenging and the eggs were smaller and more difficult to find, but since this is an activity that is largely geared towards small children, the eggs have to be easy to find. Some of the eggs were located up high, while others were lower to the ground. I loved the locations of some of the eggs in Disneyland, though I was surprised that Toontown was not used as one of the egg locations (just as A Bug's Land was not used in DCA).

At the end of each hunt we returned to the shops where we had purchased our maps (which were about $5 each) and collected our "surprises." We saw many people with many maps wandering around the parks, so as long as DLR keeps moving those eggs around to switch things up a bit each year I think they will have a big hit on their hands. The egg hunts (even if you only do one park) are a fun, inexpensive way to do something new and different at DLR, see the parks, notice some things you may not have noticed in the past, etc.

Meanwhile... over at the Springtime Roundup...

Roger Rabbit, the Easter Bunny and Pluto in his bunny ears were holding court at their photo stations. Minnie Mouse was in her pink springtime dress. There was a choir onstage, performing spiritual songs.

The decorations included beautiful wreaths, and many bits of garland filled with small eggs, carrots, flowers, bunnies and other Easter-ish things.

My favorite part of the Roundup was the area where all of the "egg art" takes place. One of the egg artists also handles some of the amazing pumpkins that you'd see at the Halloween Carnival/Roundup. The eggs are, of course, not real, but that does not make them any less amazing! The 'egg versions' of characters are particularly cute (like the "egg Sulley")!

There were several eggs out in the open, as one of the artists was displaying them there. There was also a case (protected by chicken wire) behind her that contained many more eggs. She kindly opened the doors to the case so that I could take photos to my heart's content.

I would normally go into the candy and bake shops and take photos of the seasonal treats, and if I had been at DLR longer I would have done that, but I was so caught up in hunting eggs and the Springtime Roundup that I never made it to the treats before it was time to leave!

I took a lot of photos of the various eggs, but I don't want to spoil anything for anyone if you haven't already seen the public photos posted in other places. I'll happily post some photos here if anyone wants to see them and doesn't mind the spoiler photos.

So, in short, the Christmas/Holiday Season and Halloween Time Superthread-keeper gives a big :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 to the Easter fun at DLR (oh... and the flowers around the parks are gorgeous this time of year too)!!!

One year the surprise was a mini-Vinylmation and this past year it was a small plastic egg that opened so you could put something inside and they had different characters on them.

But, I think that since Easter is in April this coming year that February is going to be too early for any of that. Early February will likely have some Mardi Gras things though.

I need your guys' help, please! Can't decide which one I want to do with Saturday 2/21:

Thurs. 2/19: Fly In, Check in to Hotel
Fri. 2/20: DL/CA
Sat. 2/21: UNIVERSAL STUDIOS?
Sun. 2/22: DL/CA
Mon. 2/23: DL/CA
Tues. 2/24: DL/CA
Wed. 2/25: DL/CA
Thurs. 2/26: SeaWorld (maybe)
Fri. 2/27: Garden Walk/Bowling/Downtown Disney/Etc.
Sat. 2/28: Fly Out

My main goal is to avoid HUGE crowds. Should we go to Universal Studios that day, and use Wed the 25th to go to DL/CA? Or, should we bite the bullet and do this:

Thurs. 2/19: Fly In, Check in to Hotel
Fri. 2/20: DL/CA
Sat. 2/21: DL/CA
Sun. 2/22: DL/CA
Mon. 2/23: DL/CA
Tues. 2/24: DL/CA
Wed. 2/25: UNIVERSAL STUDIOS?
Thurs. 2/26: SeaWorld (maybe)
Fri. 2/27: Garden Walk/Bowling/Downtown Disney/Etc.
Sat. 2/28: Fly Out

What would you do if your main goal was to avoid a huge crowd?

PS: I will be with my Disney lover DS who is 6 and my non Disney loving husband who has never been to Disney who is a grinch! HAHAHA!!

To avoid Disney crowds, I would go to Universal on Saturday and Disneyland on Wednesday.

Personally, I wouldn't go to Universal. And I'd add some sort of "rest"/low key day in there. Especially with a child. But that's just me. We plan to have a couple days where we just do a few small things like a quick stop at the beach and hanging out in the pool.

May I ask why you would not go to Universal?

I was debating adding a Universal day since there were so many closures during the trip. We have never been and we have boys so I thought it might spice it up a bit. I am not a fan of $80 tickets though for a park open from 10-5
So it would have to be a good deal.

We are doing a beach/whale watch day and then we had an extra do whatever day. It could just be a pool day though. (weather permitting)

I also would not choose Universal. They'll have big crowds on a Saturday as well, and to me, the one in CA is not worth it. Pool days and beach days can be tough in February - depending of course on weather. If you have wheels, a day at the Santa Monica pier/Venice boardwalk is a fun option.

This is what my gut was telling me, and I am so glad to have confirmation. Thank you so much! This is what we will do!! :thumbsup2 Thanks again!

Here is our tentative schedule. We don't plan down to the activity but will have "must see and must eat" things we like to do.

Sunday 2/22- Drive down the 5 from Northern California. Check in and head to DTD for some shopping and dinner at Rainforest Cafe.

Monday- We usually do Plaza Inn breakfast and spend the day in Disneyland.

Tuesday- DCA day with DD birthday lunch at Ariels.

Wednesday- We park hop typically and try to hit stuff we missed or want to do again.

Thursday- Head home in the AM.

We bring a cooler with drinks, snacks, etc. This will be our first time not leaving parks for naps. We rented a large jogging stroller last year and it came in handy but I'm thinking of omitting it this time. DDs will be almost 9 and almost 5. Ideas on whether or not I should still rent one? My youngest is pretty good about walking on her own places and I don't have an issue going a bit slower or stopping now and again, but I think I will miss the storage LOL.

May I also ask why you wouldn't do Universal? My DS is as crazy as I am, he doesn't like break days, gets bored. :) He is SUPER excited to see the Studio Tour and the Jurrasic Park ride, as well as the minion fun land thing. My DH, who is a Disney grinch (never been before) is excited about this too. Universal is a must for us this trip, although I know there's not a whole lot to do compared to DL/CA.

Thank you so much for your thoughts and advice. I am really interested in your take on why US is not worth it.

Thanks! :)

Universal is a must for us this trip! My DS (6) and my DH (Disney grinch) have never been. I have never been in recent years, only as a teenager back in the day. :) We know it's not as packed with stuff to do like DL and CA but to us it's worth it to see it one day. We are going to be picked up at our hotel, bus it to the park, spend the day and be dropped back off at our hotel.
We are most looking forward to Jurasic Park, the Studio Tour and the Super Silly Fun Land. :D

Sounds like an awesome time! :) When my DS and I went in 2013 he was 4. I didn't bring a stroller and he did great! I loved it because we could go anywhere without the burden of a stroller. I brought a small purse/bag and tied our sweatshirts onto it. Souveniers we purchased were kept in the stores until we left, then we just picked them up. I loved it this way, but I like to walk the parks light and didn't need storage. lol
