*****Official February 2015 Thread! Come check in and chat!*****

Thank you for the links Sherry! Now I'm super excited for the Valentine's related items and decorations there! Anyone know when these typically get set up and when the treats are available?

No, thankfully I don't have to deal with that but I had (he passed away last year) that went to DL with his family with that mindset. "It's going to be way too crowded, way to commercial, just a big rip off....." yada yada yada. Unfortunately, he never changed his mind while there. I think going into it with that type of attitude will prevent that person from truly enjoying it. My suggestion is to talk to him about actually giving it a chance before making up his mind. Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your husband. (((Hugs)))) My best friend's husband died suddenly last year. In fact, the anniversary is when we are in DL, which I feel guilty about. Her older daughter was in my class (I teach first grade). It's been so hard.... Makes me appreciate mine even when he's driving me nuts!

Does GCH have fridges in the room? Trying to figure out if we are going to bring cereal with us or not. We'll just buy milk at WW if they have fridges in the room but if they don't then we will lean towards oatmeal and just use hot water.

They did in 2012 :)

Oh my goodness! It was not my husband, it was my uncle! I didn't finish my sentence..... I really should read my posts before hitting submit! :( I have edited it now. Sorry!

Sorry to hear about your friends hubby. :( My ex-husband passed away in August after a short battle with cancer. This trip was planned because I knew he was dying (diagnosed in January and given 6-8 months) and thought the kids would need something to look forward to given the year they just had. My fiancé and I started planning this trip in July, knowing it wouldn't be long for my ex. It's such a hard thing to deal with when children are involved. I think that's one other reason we are looking so forward to going to our favorite place on earth. We are going for my son's 12th birthday which is on the 7th. We leave on the 4th, a day before what would have been my ex's 40th birthday. It will be a hard day for the kids, so hopefully this will help.

They did in 2012 :)

Thank you. I always tell my staff "Google is your friend".....I should take my own advice before asking the question lol I found this:

All of the rooms include a refrigerator (a mini-fridge in the hotel rooms and studios; a full-size fridge in the villas).

So yes, we will be bringing a box of cereal with us. I wonder how difficult it would be to get plastic spoons and bowls there? We can bring our own but if anyone has been able to get some while there, then I would love to know how! :)

This will be my husband's first ever trip to Disney. And he is a grinch! He is only going for our 6 year old son. My DH hates people/crowds, germs, rides, Disney (will not watch 1/2 the movies), change in routine, is a picky eater, etc. He is not that excited to go. Bah humbug!!

We have an agreement he can go back to the room whenever, he can choose whatever he wants to go on, he can eat wherever whenever, etc.

I just hope he finds magic in something there. Ya know?

Anyone else going or have gone with a grinch? ;)

My husband was the original driving force behind going to Disneyland the first time, he took me there for our honeymoon. I was really unsure about it but he said to me "trust me, you will love it, they pump some sort of happy gas into the air!" He was right. This summer we took his sister with us and she is SO not the happy family fun time kind of person but she absolutely loved it and if she could afford it, she would have been joining us next month!

Is he into nerdy trivia or maybe finding hidden mickeys might appeal to him? One of the things we both love is the attention to detail in Disneyland and learning all the fun trivia. Maybe a book might pique his interest?

At the end of the day, you can always leave him back in the room and you and DS go and have a blast!

One of the best times I had at Disneyland came out of a lousy situation. We went down a few years ago for my 40th and on my actual birthday we got a call that DH's mother was in the hospital and was declining pretty quickly. (she is fine now but at the time it was touch and go) DH changed his flight the next day and flew out the evening after that. DS and I had one evening and the next morning before our afternoon flight home and we had a couple of hours in the morning to go into the park before leaving for the airport. Those few hours with just the two of us were probably some of my favourite hours in Disneyland! (shh, don't tell DH that!) It was just the two of us and the park was pretty quiet so we went on a ton of rides and just had a blast!

And finally, if that does not work and he is a big grouch, you can use my favourite expression and tell him "suck it up, buttercup!" :rotfl2:

When I am feeling particularly catty, I link lmgtfy whenever someone asks a question that they could easily find the answer via Google.

For example...

LMGTFY

;)

Duuuuuude! How did you do that let me google thing? I know I know I should google it myself, but you seriously made me and hubby laugh out loud!

Ok, 'fess up!

Who has started packing already? :joker:

I'm not packed... but I only have 2 pairs of jeans, so if I pack them now, I'd be wearing skirts for the next 3 weekends, and I don't get along *that* well with skirts! However, I do have all my outfits planned, and everything I won't need until my trip is packed and ready to go!

I have a feeling I may be the only person that has not seen Frozen. I have no desire to either.

I really balked at seeing it. It wasn't nearly as bad as I expected! It's much less "princessy" than I expected!

Went to Target today and bought more travel sized things.

I may need an intervention.

:rotfl2:

We can go to Travel-Toiletries Anonymous together... When he saw my Target bag this weekend, he asked what else I could have possibly needed for toiletries! Hey, it's not my fault, I didn't have any mousse in a travel size! Blasted TSA that makes me buy product ;) I just get so happy seeing all those little travel-size items!

I just hope he finds magic in something there. Ya know?

DH used to be a Grinch about DL! Thankfully, he changed his mind after his first trip with DD and me. I think, for him, he had just never been with anyone *excited* to go, so seeing DD just wild about it helped him get excited about it too. And then, we started talking about the little details of DL--things like Hidden Mickeys, the piped in music that changes based on what land you are in, how "life-like" Cars Land looks (like you're standing in the movie!), the queues that match the ride and are almost like an attraction in and of themselves. Once he started looking at it as one man's dream, he was able to appreciate it a lot more, which was when his actual enjoyment started. Now, he likes going just as much as we do, and he has fun with Disney-related trivia, etc. When you consider that the actual park was built in just 1 year, it's pretty amazing!

It's easy!

Go to www.lmgtfy.com then type in whatever it is you want to search and then click the Google Search button and the site does the rest. Copy the link and voila!

My hubby is typically a grinch but he is the one who convinced me that it was time to do our first family Disney trip 4 years ago. (little did he know what he would unleash!) We did it for the kids but it was the best thing we had ever done together as a family. When we are in the park it is like I have 3 kids! (Who knew!---and seriously we have been together 23 years!) So a serious family Disney addiction was born.

We are surprising the kids again this time. We surprised them last time (2 years ago) at the airport….they thought that we were flying to Victoria to visit Grandma but really Grandma was flying to LA to meet us. It took awhile to sink in and my son wouldn't believe me until I showed him the tickets. I asked and they said they loved being surprised so they will be again… but this time we are going to tell them a few hours before we fly.

Love the pop up hamper

and yes I have sort of stated packing if you count not having put away the suitcases after Xmas.

Jasy I will look for you at Dapper Days…do you have a sneak preview of your outfit? I am assuming form your comments that you made it!?

Speaking of packing.

I have been all over the CBSA/TSA websites and have not found a definitive answer.

Travelling from Edmonton (YEG) to Los Angeles (LAX), so it is international flight, and I am wondering if I can pack some cereal bars (the Heinz ones) that my DD loves to have for breakfast along with her milk/juice et al.

Some spots said it can be in carry on (which would be nice for flight down), others say in checked baggage, and well there was another spot that said that items like cereal/granola bars are forbotten.

Anyone know for sure what the story is?

I've packed granola bars in my suitcase a bunch of times. I've also packed them in my carryon.

Just remember, do not try and bring Kinder Surprises into the USA! I accidentally smuggled a 3 pack in, luckily they were not discovered!

For any Canadians still looking to buy their Parkhoppers, ebates.ca now has 7.5% cash back through Orbitz which has a buy 3, get 4th day free and buy 4, get 5th day free tickets.

Even given the sad state of our exchange rate, my rough math says that this is a better deal than going through Flightcentre.ca

Why something as innocent as kinder surprises, are not allowed on flights? tia :)

Kinder surprises are banned in the USA.

Guns, ok.

Little plastic toys inside plastic eggs inside chocolate eggs, not ok.

:confused3

Last I read, potential fine $2,500.00 per egg.

WHAT??!! That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! Those are my son's most favorite treats when we go to Europe. Guess you learn something new every day!
