A HALF a chicken...for 1 person...My goodness, I only eat a leg or a wing...I thing we will definitely share, same with the salads

I know, right! If I remember correctly, it was a leg and thigh, breast and I think possibly wing as well plus the beans, mashed potatoes, gravy and biscuit.

For people who don't tend to eat large meals I recommend checking out the Bengal BBQ. They have skewers that are yummy and not huge. I really enjoyed the bacon wrapped asparagus! :thumbsup2

Hey all - I just heard back from Disney...

Yes the Castle is indeed going to be covered and closed. The traps are likely to look like the Castle, there will also be walls. There is a "chance" that the back part of the Castle won't be covered over though so we might get to see if from behind.

I highly encourage everyone to get in touch with Disney like another posted suggested. I emailed them before the holidays and was finally able to get through today, phone tag. They are sending our family some extra magic - so it is possible if you approach them nicely that they will do something. I didn't ask but was disappointed, obviously like a lot of us are, and they offered. I won't say what we are getting because who knows what other people may or may not be offered but it was very nice of them!

ETA - Am I still sad, of course, but we can't cancel our trip or change the dates since our change fee is $2800 - lol, so we will make the best of it and I do appreciate that my concerns were actually taken seriously and a real live person went out of their way to make us feel like valued guests still.

Thanks so much for getting in touch and letting us know the response. That is awesome they are doing something for you.

This info will help a lot of people make a decision. The castle news seals the deal for us, 5K is too much to spend on all those closures. Glad the plane tickets were the last things to get. Kids will be bummed and so am I as we had the DLH booked with some awesome restaurants. Carthay Circle for Anniversary dinner.:sad1: but it will have to wait for another time perhaps 2016 and not in February or March!

That news has made me incredibly sad :(

Really? Not being able to look at a castle is really what tipped the scale?

If your kids will be that bummed...why cancel? I mean, if they don't care about closures then I would still go.

Sorry you are having to cancel your trip. I totally get it! Have you bought your tickets yet? Be careful as they might expire if you are planning on waiting an entire year!!! I "think" if I could have changed our trip I would have gone in spring break time, maybe April/May would have fewer closures but not be super busy???

Sorry to hear this! Did I have you on the list on the first page and if so, when was your trip planned?

Maybe a little later in the year might work? My absolute favourite time to go to Disneyland is actually the last week of August. I don't mind the heat and I find that since a bunch of US kids go back to school early to mid August, I find the crowd level bearable. As long as we get the heck out of DL before the Labour Day weekend that is!

I emailed them and let them know we were disappointed. Part of the reason we chose the Grand Californian was because of the view of World of Color. We actually moved our entire trip to Disneyland from WDW (we were supposed to go for 10 days over Thanksgiving) because of the FastpassPlus fiasco so I'm pretty bummed that both the lake will be drained and the Castle will be covered. It's still a trip to Disneyland and we will make the best of it though!

Sorry, you know I have been chatting here but don't think we had our dates put in. We were at the end of Feb and first part of March. We had this planned for awhile but kept procrastinating on airline tickets. (was about to get this week as prices dropped) We have a package with Disney so we are still in our window. We have been 2x, once in summer and once in fall. We wanted to try February/March. We might try summer again as with the late hours the crowds were bearable like you said.

I know it sounds silly for a castle but really I think that is the proverbial straw the broke the camels back. That is a serious list of closures of some big ticket rides and shows.

We will check Bengal BBQ out, my daughter eats less than I do, and leg, thigh and breast would be way way too much - for even the two of us...might have to get a doggy bag...lol

Bugger Bum!!!! My heart just broke. The Castle IS Disneyland, I would loved to have a photo in front of it, all lit up...Photo shop it is then...lol

We won't/can't cancel, It has cost me way way too much to cancel now and it will cost us $4000 to change our flights alone, as we got them half price, the only other time we could go is this month this yr. I am not going to make my daughter wait 12 months for her graduation holiday.

So we will go and we WILL have fun, we are not going to worry about contacting them, as our Disney tickets are cheaper anyways, we got a 10 day pass for $354, so that is our discount ;)

We will still get to go to Disneyland, a NHL game, we will still get to go to San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Hollywood and LA...We can't do any of that here.

Now excuse me whilst I go and sob my heart out :sad::sad::sad:

I just spoke with Disneyland. Yes, I was that upset I phoned from Australia. Consider yourself lucky if you were able to get some sort of 'compensation'. The CM I spoke to was apologetic and said it had to be done and unfortunately it has fallen in the time we'll be there. I wasn't phoning to get anything out of it, and like I told the CM, I had to phone to let Disney know my disappointment. She understood how important the castle is and said there's many iconic places in the parks to get a memorable photo, e.g. It's a small world, the wishing well, the train station. It'll be down from 19th January, finished on the 2nd, unveiled the 3rd March.

I too just spoke with a DL CM and she just brushed me off. She informed me that refurbishment happens this time of year. :headache::mad:

Just sw a cm who was very apologetic and understood my disappointment. She said the tarp will look like a castle and we will be able to see it from behind, but we will not be able to walk through.

This will be our 4th trip in either January or February. I believe we've always had a closure on Grizzly and Splash as I don't recall ever going on those. Not to mention, I prefer to be dry in the cold LOL. We have also seen Matterhorn, Screamin, IASW and many others closed. Our attitude is that it is a trade off for us to go in a "slower" season and deal with some closures. We have not seen a lot of the shows in the past so I'm hoping to get to some of them with the other closures going on. I can't wait!
As for food....last time we went I had no voice and a cold the entire time so I found hot tea everywhere I could. But we also tried Mickey beignets and hot chocolate which will be a must do every time we go. We don't care for the dole whips at all so that is an easy one. Food at the Pizza place in DCA was delicious and corn dogs as well. We could take or leave the mexican place at Pacific Wharf area of DCA. We are looking forward to trying Blue Bayou this time!

I agree that we will make the best of it!!! Last time we went IASM, GRR, Goofy's Sky School, BMRR were down. Possibly some others too... but I don't even remember because we had so much fun.

I am super bummed about the castle being covered because it's my Disney Grinch DH's first ever time to DL and I wanted him to experience that magic. But he will in other ways. I am also bummed about splash, one of my faves... and GRR - really wanted to try that!

But still so much to do, we'll have so much fun!

I thought the Snow White wishing well was going to be closed too but maybe I imagined that.

Well that's what I thought too. I guess there's so many closures not even the CMs can keep up!

I don't see it on the list. So I am wondering if before when I saw "Ariel's Grotto" my brain made me think of the wishing well...haha.

So...I almost wish it was a plain, ugly tarp. I know that sounds dumb but to me...that is just so ugly and dumb that it would make a funny photo.
