Official February 2014 Thread...

Winter jacket??? I am so confused. Isn't the weather supposed to be in the 70s-80s in February??

I was starting to shop for shortsleeve shirts before I read this.

For the most part yes but it does get chilly after the sun goes down. There was a night or two our last trip I wished I had at least a fleece coat. We always change into pants and pack hoodies for after dinner in the park. I'm from MI so safe to assume others would have needed a winter coat.

I think it all depends where you're coming from, it's -19 here right now so +70 is a dream for us!!! Our coats and boots will be left in the car at the airport and hubby and I will play rock-paper-scissors to see who has to run and bring them back to the terminal for everyone when we get back!!

haha that's an awesome image! Where do you live that it's -19?! We used to live in southeastern Idaho and it would be below zero for a big chunk of winter... I don't miss that weather!

I'm just outside of Edmonton, Alberta. It's -24f with windchill today :faint: so I haven't left the house all day - complete hibernation!!!!

Fellow DISers = gathering up my packing list for surprise trip in 62 days... one list online notes packing an 800 fill down coat for "winter" trips. we live in Louisiana and have never needed such a thing and had planned to just bring our fleece jackets on the plane (save luggage space)... these coats are upwards of $100 each and with 4 of us would be a substantial unplanned cost. like i said, we live in louisiana and figured the weather here and in florida would be approximately the same... but DH pointed out that we dont hang out outside in the winter too much so saying what we have would be sufficient is true, if we werent gonna be outside ... thoughts? end of febr / beg of march ... do we sink $400 into coats or take what we got and hope for the best????
:earboy2:

I would bet what you have is more than sufficient, but since you are not used to the colder and will be outside, I would definitely dress in layers. You'd be amazed at how warm you are with your regular jacket and a sweatshirt under it. Here in Massachusetts my son and his college friends don't bother with winder coats. Even in the colder weather. They were a lined windbreaker and hooded sweatshirt with a regular cotton long sleeve and are plenty warm. Honestly most of winter I don't where the heavier stuff either but like you said in the winter I don't hang outside long. But if I am going to be outside, layers are what I do cause I can always take off the top layer if I am too warm.

When I went in November people were saying it would be cold and I would need long pants and warmer coat. I only use a sweatshirt 1 night. All the other nights I was in short sleeves and not once did I wear long pants.

Do you get cold in Air Conditioned rooms? I kind of go by that. Some people need fleece in AC and others can use a light sweater or jacket.

Again, could Florida get unusual cold and you might need warmer? Maybe, but I would not spend $400 on coats you will never need again. Layers!

I'm going down the first week in February and will check the 10 day forecast before I leave. I'm planning to bring layers! And I own winter coats. :-)

Phew! It took me about 40 minutes but I finally got my FP+ selections how I want them. Or at least how I can tolerate them... I got the stupid Donald Duck "server is busy" message every single time I made or modified a selection, but they all went through anyway. If only I could get a BOG FP for lunch, I'd be a happy camper!

Anyone able to get a Wishes or MSEP FP+ yet?
No. Word is they could post in as little as a week prior to attending dates. All we can do is keep checking back. I will be checking starting at the 30 day mark for my trip for BOG, wishes, and MSEP and will report here as soon as I find availability. People are pretty good about reporting on DIS about availability. January dates just opened last week so I imagine we still have a bit to wait. ;)

When was the earliest you reserved for feb and got a winter room rate? I've been following the prices for the last couple of weeks and I just recently saw that they were offering a winter room rate. I'm planning on going in Feb of 2015 and wondering when is a good time to reserve. I know I won't be able to in the spring (which gives me time to save!) but I want to make sure I get a good deal.

Joining! *Yay for a surprise trip for Christmas! *:cool1: 50 days to go. *My 2 cents on coats... Two years ago (mid Feb.), we wore t-shirts every day. *It was not even cool at night. *Last year, the first half of our trip was chilly (40-60), and my dh had to buy a hat and gloves. *I wore long sleeve shirt, sweater, fleece jacket, and hat and gloves. *My kids just layered a sweatshirt under a raincoat with hat and gloves, they were fine. *2nd half of our trip was nice, ts again. *My kids swam everyday, though! *I will bring more long layers this year, as having to do laundry due to 2 pairs of pants when it is not warm enough for shorts is annoying. *We are from Maine, so have 2 cold outfits for trip down, and back, but I will probably add 2 more this year!

They're released the winter specials in Sept/Oct I believe. You can book whenever you want and just add a discount on later if it qualifies.

We will be there Feb 22- March 1!!! We went the same week this year and couldn't get over the low crowds!! Super excited! Staying at ASports this year! ADR's booked, FP+'s secured,....now we play the waiting game!:/ Does anyone know where the Disney outlet is by chance ?

Hello Feb 2014 WDW Planners! My two DD and I will be heading to our first WDW trip Feb 22-Mar 1. I am a little concerned about the Princess Marathon and crowds but I am not changing my plans now. My ODD will be celebrating her birthday there as well...but she does not know yet :bitelip: Anyone with any planned ADRs? Any extras?
We were there last year at this exact time and while the first couple of days were busier, it died down quickly as the week went in so no worries!:) will be there this exact week again! We booked all our ADRs at our 180 day window.

So, haven't been on here in awhile. Been so busy with holidays. I can't believe our trip is 38? days away. We got the jump drive, but we are not able to manke any fast pass reservations because we did not purchase our tickets yet nor did we get our magic bands, which I am assuming show up after the ticket purchase as well. We got a room, so I would think they could send us something.

Anyway, looking forward to it more and more as we had a rough Christmas with alot of sickness. Hoping this trip will be a great one.

Had the exact same experience last year. The weekend was rough (avoid the ticket and transportation center in the morning if you can) but after that it was beautiful. We are going again this year 23-28th! See you there! :cool1:
