Official Dopey 2018 Thread

Not buying it. Why would they recognize every other challenge except for Dopey? Doesn't make sense.
In the comments people were discussing that they haven't recognized perfectly dumbos yet and the 5th anniversary for that is this year.

I'd also question them not recognizing perfect Dopey. I've never personally asked, but I did talk to some other runners at year 2 and 3 who did ask at the expo. Their quoted number to me (from runDisney but not official by any means, so third hand) was close to the number @opusone came up with post-race. So someone is tracking it. Guess we'll see.

Not sure what this means: "they haven't recognized them yet"? The race weekend hasn't happened yet so this is confusing to me. :confused3 Do you mean they didn't get the special registration link?

I don't recall any special recognition for being perfect for Wine & Dine until the program came out. "Perfect" was (and has been since) marked on our bibs and we got a special lanyard. We also got a flimsy plastic flipper. (My most coveted Disney souvenir. EVER.) [/sarcasm]

I just read that Perfect Tinks got a cheap pocket mirror and Perfect Princess got a sash and plastic tiara...hooray?

I glad they show their appreciation towards participants who have invested so much time and money.:sad2::sad2::sad2:
I do think the special bibs and ribbons on the medals are cool...and cool to have your name in the program. But giving out "gifts" like these is just bizarre to me...it makes them look cheap!

Here are some screenshots of the discussion. I just thought itssinteresting so that's why I mentioned it.

Maybe it is just a matter of semantics? They may not officially be recognized as legacy or perfect until the event takes place; therefore the disavowal of knowledge. Just like you don't progress in your Castaway Club membership level until after you have completed a cruise.

^^it is interesting but I would be very surprised if they didn't recognize Dopey when they have recognized every other long race and challenge. Seems like a bad PR move...and we just got a taste of them wanting to avoid bad PR with how they handled the canceled WDW half (options for compensation, giving out challenge medals and recognizing coast to coast, etc.).

It's not like they are breaking the bank with the "gifts" that they are giving to challenge runners (see above examples). From what I can gather, it seems that being a "perfect" runner means you get priority registration, your name in the program, a different medal ribbon and bib, and a cheap-o gift. As a person said in the screen shot, this doesn't seem like an expensive thing for them to do, especially when (as another person said), a perfectly Dopey runner has spent almost $3K on registrations. So maybe they WON'T recognize them, but I think it would make them look really bad if they didn't. They have set a precedent and people expect it (just look at the threads around here for race weekends where perfect runners get their registration links a little late, or don't get them at all even when a race is nowhere near close to selling out - they flip out).

That's true too. 5 years seems to be the milestone where they start recognizing it, so maybe the runners aren't "officially" perfect because the 5th Dopey hasn't happened yet.

Do we know if Perfect Donalds got anything? :scratchin

I've been doing these races for a very long time and I have not heard of any Perfect Donalds. Maybe there aren't any?

As far as Perfectly Dopey goes, my advice is to do it because you like it, not because of any possible "gift" that they give the legacy runner. For Goofy #5 we received a sash. Goofy #10 we were given a shirt and a small plaque. I also have 12 race weekends/vacations of Disney memories with my family and literally hundreds of miles of running around Disney World that are more precious than the sash and swag.

Maybe! That would be surprising since there are still Perfect marathoners...seems more likely to be able to do the half for 20 years compared to the marathon but I don't see any names in the program so maybe you're right!

Excellent point! :thumbsup2

I like the sashes they give out now and then for Perfects. I feel like it's super appropriate for Perfect Princess and goes well with the plastic tiara.

I am less worried about being able to get a spot on Tuesday, since the AP/DVC registrations are still not sold out. Not that I won't be on the site clicking refresh at 11:45 eastern.....

I said it before, these races won't sell out quickly.

AP/DVC folks are proving it out ..... if they'd sell out at regular price, Disney wouldn't have offered any discounts.

Supply/Demand ... Disney's best friend and worst enemy.

What discount?

Being the anniversary year for multiple events as well as a redemption for the half, I figured there would be a little bit more fervor.
