Official Dopey 2017 Thread

Yeah, too many of you if you ask me. :)

Well only if I actually cared about the MN/WI border battle, which I don't.

Woa, you can never have too many of us ;)

Welcome to another WI runner! I am doing the Green Bay half in May but everything else for us is in the twin cities. I like the sounds of the challenge you're talking about though, may have to look into that.

100 minute improvement! That's so awesome! I don't even know what to expect for my first marathon- the furthest I've done is a half and I did not train properly, so I'm working on that. How did you get such an improvement over the year, if you don't mind me asking! I'm so new to all of this- so I'm trying to learn as much as I can!

You should run the challenge in May! I'm super excited and nervous about it. But it should be fun!

You can check out my training journal here on the disboards: http://www.disboards.com/threads/to...-better-dopeybadger-comments-welcome.3475601/

It's got a wealth of information on how I've gone from just learning how to run 4 years ago to a potential chance at getting a sub-3 hr marathon and BQ qualifying time. I like to intermix what I've learned from scientific research with what I've read from coaches from the 5K to the marathon.

As a summary, I had to change my mindset about training. I needed to stop trying to PR every training day and start training slower, much slower. By training slower, I was able to train more days per week without getting as tired from any single training day. I realized that time spent training and the pace I trained at mattered more than the actual mileage I ran in a day. I also started to ask why each run was important and why I should do it at a certain pace. It allowed me to learn what adaptations the body made to different stimulus and how that would enhance my ability to run further and faster. I also changed my diet significantly.

I'm always happy to help others make training plans that work best for their history, abilities, lifestyle and goals so just let me know if you'd like some more specific advice after reading a little bit of my journal.

Another great place to learn a lot of information is the Running Thread: http://www.disboards.com/threads/the-running-thread.3477518/page-124#post-55538384 (this is the current post as of right now).

Everyday, the OP lists a question of the day and everyone involved in the thread answers it with their perspective. It covers a lot of different running topics and I find it to be very helpful in hearing a lot of different points of view.

I'm in! Now I can go back to our day at animal kingdom. Good luck to everyone else trying for today!
You can officially add me to the list of "in for Dopey 2017"!
And Mrs. Dopey and I are in! IT HAS BEGUN! I will stay in touch and probably be asking advice from you veterans.

I think we'll head to Hollywood Studios for a couple rides, then Epcot for our Fastpasses later. :)

Congratulations. Hopefully I'll only be jealous of all of you for a week.

I must say, it seems the secret to mitigating the stress is to be online, logged into your active account, and hitting refresh on the active registration page (the link to that page seems to open about 5 minutes before noon est). At first it tells you registration isn't open, but then it will put you 'in line' about :30 seconds before it opens.

The real challenge is if you need to register more than one person, or for more than one event. Then you need more than one computer/person helping you out. It's rough, but manageable.

I did my first full marathon at Walt Disney World in 2015 and afterward said that I was glad to have done it but didn't feel the need to do another.

Now it's fifteen months later and not only do I decide to do a marathon again but thought, just for kicks, why not add the half, 10k and 5k. All signed up for Dopey. Wonder what I'll think after I'm done with it next year? :rolleyes1

All registered. I'm going to use Hanson's Marathon training to see how that goes this year

There have been a few of us on here who've tried it, and I'd say you're likely to be happy with the results. Let me know if you'd like any specific advice about the plan as I've read a lot of their literature (both their books, their website, and many of their (or people associated with them) posts on other message boards).

:yay:My girlfriend and I are in for our fourth Dopey in a row. Good luck to everybody registering next week. Happy training and remember to not over do it.:drinking:

Yea I'm doing it in conjunction with Ironman training, so I really need to focus on the running economy and different training zones

Did any do the Runners World VIP Dopey ?? Just curious what people thought. I think I would stick with the regular signup but did anyone do it before ?
