Official Dopey 2017 Thread

Any of you guys use Strava? I'd love to have a bunch of people training for the Dopey following eachother to see how it's going and maybe things we could be doing differently in our own plans. I don't think Strava has groups or anything like that, so if anyone has other ideas that would be great too.

I do! No idea how to add people though lol

@PrincessV that. IS. INSANE.

And it's frustrating to me, because I wonder if they are even taking runner feedback seriously?? With posts from people saying that they've emailed rD and gotten canned responses, I'm not sure.

The husband of one of my BFFs is a Disney CM - his boss was "gifted" a Star Wars bib from a rD official who wanted feedback from this guy on the race. The guy normally runs 1:40ish half marathons and had never done a rD event - he was placed in a back corral. Needless to say, his experience was not pleasant, and apparently he did not mince words when it came to his thoughts on the race (he forwarded the email he sent to the rD official to my friend's husband). The email was, per my friend, "harsh" and talked a lot about safety issues. The guy said he'd never recommend a rD race to any of his runner friends.

It's interesting because, clearly, this guy was not corralled properly - which was miserable for him, but probably a blessing for others, because runDisney needs to know that that the experience is not always good for those that are in the later corrals.

While I'm glad they got feedback from SOMEONE, I hope they are taking runner feedback seriously as well...though, again, it's not encouraging with these canned responses people are getting.

This is very good, but I think your friend's DH should also find someone at Disney Parks to issue his feedback to in addition to runDisney. After all, "runDisney" is actually Track Shack. There needs to be a meeting of the minds between Disney Parks, Disney Resorts, Destination Disney, and Track Shack to hammer out the various problems. And I think the Track Shack folks need to be given complimentary registrations to the Disney Institute.

But @PrincessV is 100% right on about how aggressive they were in the 10k. It was not good.

Yes I use strava you can connect if you have someones email or facebook friends

Looks like you can create clubs on Strava. Would anyone be interest in a runDisney club on there? I think it could be kind of fun to get a bunch of people together on there. It could help to see others training, especially on those days when you just don't feel like getting out the door. Let me know what you guys think or if anyone wants to start one. Might be better for someone who has been around here a little longer to make it.

I would!! Can we share e-mails? I'm never sure of what is and isn't OK to share but can share mine for whenever we start it. I can try to figure out how to start it if you would like too.

I don't know for sure, but I know I don't have a problem with it. Plus if someone creates the club we can just post the link to it and anyone using strava can enter.

I signed up but I'm not familiar with Strava so I'll have to work on getting my info linked up. Should be fun.

You'll love it, it's super helpful and I think this club could be a lot of fun too.

I just joined and it's already up to 5, so that's great. Should really help out with motivation and just be fun in general.

I just realized this week that there was a Garmin app and that it will connect with my watch through Bluetooth. And I just started with a HR monitor that also connects. Now Strava - I'm all in with tech running world. Lol.

I use a Suunto watch, but I believe Strava and Garmin are able to connect directly, so it should be no problem to get your training on there.

Right now I'm trying to see if I can load all of my prior Garmin data into the site (it says after my 1st Garmin run it will do the last 30 days). Trying to use tapiriik (found it on DCrainmaker's site), it's still queueing everything. I'll let you all know if it works. After this though, Garmin has a direct sync so everything should load automatically.

Hasn't loaded any of previous runs from Garmin but I'm not to worried about that. And like the dcrainmaker reference. That guy does great reviews.

Rock N Sole is my favorite! Running on an empty Lincoln Memorial Drive downhill towards the lake is the best! I'm not as much a fan of running in the stadium area.

I just love this description!!!

This will be my third Rock N Sole half, and I love love love it! Over the bridge, through Lake Park, down Lincoln Memorial - love the course. Not a fan of the theme, but the course is one of my very favorites. I like the Madison Mini, but have been sacrificing it for either vacation or a sprint triathlon lately. Another favorite is Sheboygan Harvest Fest in September - just for the running, not for the hoopla (because they don't have much hoopla and they never give me the shirt size I ordered - grr.) I also loved the inaugural Milwaukee Running Festival last November - only did the half, but thought it was really well done for a first year. I'm strongly considering the Lakefront Marathon in October, as a training run - I haven't done that one before, but what a great course!

I did the challenge one year, and it was fun to get the extra medal. Just can't seem to work Madison into the schedule anymore. :(
Glad to hear such a positive review of the half! Since I enjoyed the quarter, I'm pretty sure I'll like the half since it starts the same and then includes that whole stretch along Lincoln Memorial. The one part I'm slightly nervous about though is Lafayette Hill! Distance-wise it's short, but man is that hill steep! And I would love to try the Milwaukee Running Festival. Was eyeing it for this year, but then ended up deciding after the changes were announced to register again for Wine and Dine instead, which is the same weekend.

The medal this year for the Rock n Sole and Madison challenge is so pretty! I really want it.

Anyway, I'll stop there and stop hijacking this thread since it's supposed to be about Dopey!
