Official DL July 2015 thread

Just bought our 5 day Park Hopper tickets for July! Wanted to get ahead of the price increase. So exciting! I sure wish they had a 6 day option, though.

Well if there isn't by now, then I would say this be it matey! Argg.....

.........Honk if you love Pirates!.....

DD chose DL as the destination for her Sweet 16 birthday trip. We were there once before, coincidentally during the 50th anniversary celebration, ten years ago. Her gift is the trip and to bring her BFF along - she doesn't remember much of that first trip, so she's super-excited about it, as are DH and I!

My (first) question is this: I'm feeling like the parks will be really crowded the night of July 4th, and DH really hates crowds. I'm thinking of planning a late dinner someplace with a view of fireworks...any suggestions?

Thanks so much...more questions will follow, I'm sure!

We are going July 6-12. We have booked at the Doubletree Suites Convention Center. I am still looking for hotels that are closer but I have not pulled up a rate that is comparable to what we have. We are paying $189/night for a suite for the 6 of us. The last time we were at DL was the year of the 50th and we went 3 times that year.:goodvibes We still have our gold ears. I am hoping they have some cool ears out for the 60th. :thumbsup2

Advice, anyone?

We were in DCA on the night of the 4th 2 years ago. The park itself was manageable for us. We did a late lunch at the Wine Country and saw WOC. However, when leaving the park at closing, that is where the REAL crowd is! The area between the parks was wall to wall people, and it extended almost all the way to DLH (where we were staying).

We will be there July 9th to 25th all the way from Australia :jumping1: This will be our 4th visit.

We are booked into HoJo for the entire stay....... we have always stayed Fairfield Inn but decided to change because the kids are
now big enough to enjoy the pool area at HoJo.

There is a special pass that is specifically for Australian residents (you have to show photo ID at gate very time) that gives us
a 10 day hopper pass. They had a special on last weekend of pay for 5 days get 10 so of course we COULDNT pass that up and HAD to book another trip :)

The 60th is very exciting but what are opinions on the actual date - a must to be in the parks or skip parks that day due to the extreme crowds?????

You have a 10 day hopper pass! I can't imagine not going over to see the celebration on the actual day! I'm a little jealous of your 10 days of fun! :) It will be crazy crowded on that day, but with all the other days you have I would just go and focus on the special festivities that they will have. It sounds like a great time.

Oh yeah, I'd head on over to see what's going on! You have 9 more days to do the other stuff. Just set low expectations for getting things done that day and go to just be there.

Cool, sounds like a good group going in July. We have just decided to do Steakhouse 55 on the 5th for our Anniversary dinner, since I just heard that the former club 33 chef is running the steakhouse now.

Chef Marcel is running Steakhouse 55 and it's wonderful. Chef Sutton has done an amazing job at C33 but Chef Marcel is missed by many there.

We'll be in CA July 18-25 and at Disneyland/Universal Hollywood July 21st-24th staying at the Carousel Inn & Suites.

Definitely seriously considering the Candy Cane...haven't heard a bad thing (except that it's outdated, which I couldn't care less about)
I need to get my butt moving and start booking some stuff! I've been too distracted by real life...laaaaame!

Been away from this thread for a bit.
alicat8 - If you are still debating about the Candy Cane Inn, I found this thread on another site...

Hopefully, you are managing the "real life" distractions now and can book your vacation!

We will be first timers to Disneyland and to California for that matter. We will be staying from the 20th of July to the 26th, and right now we are staying at the Holiday Inn and Suites on Walnut. The deal through our travel agent was just to good to say no to. However if anyone has any words of warning about it, I will certainly listen.

We are contemplating a July trip ourselves. Our AP's expire in mid August and we're just waiting to see what track my youngest ends up on at school before we decide if we are going the week of July 27 or the week of August 10. We won't know that until around May 1 though.

We just got back from our first family trip to WDW and our second DCL vacation. Looking forward to getting back to the original and seeing all the fun 60th anniversary stuff. (Although we might squeeze a quick trip in mid April when my kids are off track again. Year round school does have it's advantages!)

Someone asked about character meals. We've done Surf's Up, Goofy's Kitchen and Plaza Inn. I think our favorite is Surf's Up. The character interaction there was great.

I know nothing about that place and haven't heard it mentioned one way or another. I always check reviews on TripAdvisor when I'm not sure about a place.

Maybe one of the DIS Vets that is a frequent visitor can ask a moderator to make this the official July 2015 thread. I have done it once, making magnets for the Canadian Cruises a few years ago, and offering info for things to do in the ports. it isn't that hard to lead a thread or that time consuming. I would volunteer, but I am a total newb for this area of the continent.

We'll be there the 15th-22nd. The first 3 nights at DLH (my son loves the monorail pool) & then 4 nights at VGC. We are so excited to be there for the 60th!
