OFFICIAL Disney Cake Chatter Thread - Part III

My brother & I are taking our Dad for his first trip in August. He will be turning 66, and we are going to be at 1900 Park Fare for his birthday dinner. I want to order a special cake, but even after searching this board (and google!) I can't seem to come up with just the right idea.

I would like to find something that showcases the classic movies/characters... on a nice fondant cake.

Do you think they could do movie reel with the different characters in each frame? It would be so fun to have a "hey, we've been waiting for you" message built in to the images, but I just don't know a.) how many image choices they have, assuming they can print images b.) if they can frame them to look like a movie reel.

I'm open to suggestions though. Thoughts??

I'm not sure Disney can do cakes with non-Disney licensed characters on them, so you might have to go through Publix or one of the non-Disney restaurants at Downtown Disney for that (if they'll even do a cake for you). You might be able to get one of the non-Disney-owned restaurants at Epcot to do a Thomas the Tank Engine screen print for you. These are listed below the general Epcot cake info on this page: http://disneytravelbabble.com/how-to/order-cake/by-location/#epcot

How about a Star Wars cake? :teeth: If it were me, I'd go for something more impressionistic than literal, like a black cake covered with red designs like the ones on Darth Maul. But you could also do a simple buttercream cake with a screen print of your family's favorite characters, or the logo or something. I think there's a lot of potential in the Star Wars universe...

Thanks Lurkyloo. If you think of anything else let me know.

Is there a listing anywhere of the prices for the white chocolate characters they can put on the cakes? I'm still trying to decide on a cake for my MIL and I think knowing how pricey these are may help me narrow things down.

Does anyone know if you can get a cake for the spirit of aloha show? That is our last night at Disney and DH birthday is the next day when we leave. Thanks!

According to the front page:

Which white chocolate characters are available?
In general, white chocolate characters are only available at the locations that offer fancy, fondant-covered cakes (see Disney Cake Options By Location post). Prices are $15$65, depending on size and resort, and figures can be fully painted for an additional charge. The selection varies by location, with the Grand Floridian offering the widest variety. Check with the bakery at the resort where you want to order the character.
Mickey
Minnie
Donald
Goofy
Pluto
Chip
Dale
Belle
Cinderella
Snow White
Tinker Bell
Peter Pan
Stitch
Captain Jack Sparrow
Anniversary Mickey & Minnie
Dark chocolate 3-inch Mickey or Minnie

You might need to call Dining for a specific price :)

I can't see why you couldn't. Here is the information for cakes at the Polynesian:

Polynesian Resort* 407-824-2165
6-inch $21 chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream or vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream
8-inch $32, same options
10-inch $45 vanilla, chocolate or marble cake; filling is white or dark chocolate mousse, vanilla or chocolate buttercream, or custard with strawberries; frosting is vanilla or chocolate buttercream or whipped cream
Mickey Mouse Cake $48 (serves 12): Vanilla or chocolate Mickey head-shaped cake with chocolate mousse filling, covered in chocolate ganache; only customization is writing on plate
Fancy, fondant-covered cakes and mini cakes may be ordered by calling Private Dining at the Grand Floridian: 407-824-1951; prices start at $75 for 6-inch cakes and $30 for two-tier mini cakes, which serve 2

I wanted to share the cake my friend had made for her daughter's bday. I don't know price or flavors (looks like chocolate cake), but I know it was made by the GF bakery. I'd also like to note that Pat told her they probably couldn't do Lightning McQueen due to copyright concerns...but clearly, Lightning is on the cake. I also think it's interesting that they are 3D chocolate figures of Lightning and Mater.

They said it tasted great. :goodvibes

Does anyone know if I could order a specialty cake to be delivered at Yachtsman without having to order thru the BC/YC? Could I order from Pat at GF even though it's going to a YC restaurant? We wanted to surprise DH with a themed birthday cake in August but would prefer not to order from anyone at the BC/YC after what happened to me last year. Also, his two favorite rides are Rockin n' Roller coaster and TOT so either theme would be great, if they still do it. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Hello follow Cake theraders

We will be at Disney 03.31-04.03. We have a cake scheudled for our dinner at Chef Mickeys on 03.31.13 it is an 8inch Pirate Mickey theme cake and a stitch mini cake. Do you think that it will be to much cake. 5 adults and 4

Hi, so how was your trip? Would love to see a picture of the Stitch cake.

We are celebrating DS's graduation & Acceptance into college & would love to see some Stitch cakes. We will be staying at BCV & VWL so whichever bakery could do this up for him would be best. Ideally, I think, check-in day at BCV would work best. Any & all ideas welcome!

You have to be staying or dining at the Grand Floridian or the Polynesian to get a cake delivered by the GF. It never hurts to ask, but I'm betting dollars to doughnuts that Private Dining at the GF will tell you they don't deliver to restaurants at YC. Maybe they'd let you pick up a cake at GF's Gasparilla Grill, though.

I k ow for a fact cause I just asked that Brian's people said he can do a cake for us to use at citricos but we had to pick it up and being it. They also said they might not store it for u till u need it after we ate. Just my experience so all places might be diff but contemporary will do it.

That's what I was afraid of...maybe I'll call the BC/YC dining and ask to speak only to a manager when placing an order as I didn't want to have to deal with picking up a cake. I'll call and see what happens.

I have no idea...while they could, I have to wonder how well the colors would show up with the darker background. Then again, those "paints" look fairly thick so it might work.

Glad it was great, jealous you get to go again in June! We will be there in August. Finding Stitch cakes seems like finding a needle in a hay stack & I am cost conscious (did I mention he is going to college!).

Anyone have any good pictures of stitch cakes?

We will be at WDW, with dinner at Chef Mickey's, for my dad's birthday - but, he is not a disney fanatic and we're not going just because it's his birthday, so I just want something basic to acknowledge his birthday, not a fancy custom cake. I've tried to read some of this thread, but still need some clarification. Do I need to order this ahead? Do I get options for this? Can it be personalized? And does it cost extra or is a basic cake included in our dining plan? Thanks for the help!!! :yay:

I finished ordering my cake today (started the process last Tuesday) from the Yacht and BC. My hubby and I are staying at the BC, and the cake is supposed to be delivered to our room on my hubby's b'day.

It is going to be a six inch cake, chocolate, with chocolate buttercream icing. It is going to have an UP theme (my dh's fave disney movie). It is going to be covered in blue fondant with balloons around the side. On top, there will be a 2d white chocolate cutout (standing) of Ellie and Carl on a picnic blanket staring up at the sky (when they are young adults). On top, there will also be a 2d white chocolate cutout of the grape soda bottle button and of the adventure book (I was hoping to get these done as 3d molded, but the bakery said it could only be 2d). It is going to say, "Our Life Together is One Big Adventure." I was told it would be $135.

Everyone who helped me was incredibly nice, and I can't wait to see how the cake turns out! :)
