Definitely call and check. You never know—they might have a pastry chef now who will take those requests. And then let us know what you find out! :thumbsup2

Thank you! Ill call tomorrow. Do I just call the cake ordering hotline? or do I need to call AKL?

Sorry to be a bother Im just so confused :confused3

No worries—it is way more confusing than it needs to be, thanks to the varying policies at every Disney resort. You can call the Cake Hotline and push a bunch of buttons, or you can call AKL Private Dining directly using the number in Post #2 (407-938-4720).

Thank you! I will call AKL in the morning and ask. :thumbsup2

We will be celebrating my son's 6th birthday at WDW the first week of June. I'd like to order a cake for him to be delivered during our dinner at Garden Grill. I just wanted to run this idea by the folks here to see if you think it will be doable.

I'd like a 6-inch (could go with 8 if absolutely necessary, but there are only three of us...) cake with red, smooth buttercream and two white buttons to look like Mickey's pants, topped with a molded ear hat (this could be fondant, I just don't want the cake covered in it). I've seen the mini cakes with the ear hats but wasn't sure if they would make them for larger cakes. Thoughts?

That's because it's only 6 inches and it's covered in buttercream, not fondant over buttercream. I'd also wager it doesn't have any specialty fillings. The decor is a simple screen print and some premade flowers—that also helps keep costs down.[/QUOTE]

Lurkyloo ~ Thank you very much. Do you know if I can get this either delivered to CRT or to SSR? It's exactly what I am looking for, but I didn't know if ordering to one place or the other was easier.

I emailed the Contemporary this afternoon re: a birthday cake for my husband's 40th. We love the California Grill's sushi and I got a reply within two hours from Heather Hancock, cake decorator and chef assistant. They are going to create an 8" cake with fondant sushi for $105 for delivery to our BLT room on 2/23. Fingers crossed.
Our cake was in our room when we got back tonight!! DH was so surprised. It was delivered on a tray with silverware and plates and left on the bed with the box propped open. 8" fondant covered strawberry with strawberry mousse. The sushi was fondant convered rice treats. I'm hoping this works... I'm on the iPad using the Photobucket app.

ETA: I have been told to edit this to say it is one of the best cakes we have ever had. And it was stunning. Our usual decorator at home would have charged as much but would not have tasted as awesome.

Wow that sushi cake looks awesome! :)

We're trying to decide what to do for a cake this year. We have a 1st birthday, my 30 somethingth birthday, possibly 2 - 2nd birthdays, and a belated 6th birthday (it's a busy week), I'm trying to decide whether to only celebrate 1 birthday, do something spectacular for all of them combined, or what to do.

Baby's and my birthday are both the same week - and both will be definitely celebrated while at Disney. But not sure how to go about it. We normally just get a cake and get together with friends, cake must certainly be involved, but not sure what to do. Any ideas?

They have larger ear hats they make for wedding cakes, but it's hard to say whether Epcot can do them. Best to call and ask! :thumbsup2

The Grand Floridian is probably the easiest because you can get right to a real person using the number in post #2. For CRT you now have to email and the first reply you get back tells you they only do standard cakes and you have to go back and forth a bunch to get what you want. SSR you have to call and hope you get a real person and not a voicemail.

I'd combine them all into one cake just to save my sanity and money if it were me! Maybe even do like a rainbow-swirl colored cake that kinda plays off the idea that it's cramming a bunch of events into one cake.

The pastry chef at AKL is Amanda. She is super accommodating. She did an Ariel cake in Oct for us and is doing a 6" Sleeping Beauty cake on Fri. I'm not certain if she can do a mini cake but I would ask!

Hmm that's an idea! Maybe a mad hatter or some other wonderland theme that'd happily mash a bunch of things together.

Hi ~ i have a couple of quick questions regarding ordering a cake for our 28th anniversary.

Can you still order the mini wedding cakes or do they just come with mickey ears on top now???

Can a cake be delivered to The Flying Fish - for after dinner? (we are stay at the Boardwalk Inn so I could have it delivered to the room).

I know in the past you could order chocolate covered strawberries from private dining at the BW- is that still possible???

Thank you for any help.

It depends on your location. The Magic Kingdom and the Contemporary want you to pick a standard Mickey style now, but you could probably convince them to do flowery and wedding-y....

Yes.

Your best bet is to call the number in post #2 and ask them directly, since this changes a lot. :thumbsup2

When I call to order my daughter a Cinderella slipper for our GF Garden view Tea can I use a Disney Gift Card to pay for it or do I need to put it on a cc?

Every child & family are different, so I can only say what I'd do for my family. Take my opinion for what it's worth. Maybe, nothing. Most kids want to celebrate their birthday on the actual day or very close. I would celebrate for those who didn't have a birthday fall on your trip dates, on their actual birthday or the weekend before (Mon., Tue., Wed. birthdays) or after (Thurs., Fri. birthdays). That would only leave those who had a birthday fall on the trip dates. The first birthday is a big deal. I'd make sure the baby had their own cake. If the soon to be 2 yr. olds are twins & their birthday falls on your trip, you could do one cake. They're probably used to it. If they're not used to sharing a birthday, I'd try to get something small for each of them. It doesn't have to be a big cake. Some of the bakeries have smaller options that would probably work for them. Just make sure to bring candles. If your birthday falls on the trip & you'd like to include the other kids on that cake, that would be great. I would only do that, if they had celebrated their birthdays individually also. The kids in your group may be different from the kids I know, but I don't know any that don't expect their own cake for their birthday, with the exception of the twins I know. FWIW, you could get several podium cakes as cheaply as one elaborate cake. While a podium cake wouldn't be my first choice, I find it preferable to the kids not having their own cake, if that's the only one they'll get. Mini cakes would also be an option. You just wouldn't get as much cake to share with the group.

I just ordered a mini wedding cake for our Vow Renewal next Saturday. They are going to put two Mickey Ears on top: one black, one white. Has anyone done this or is seen a picture?
Thanks!

The birthdays listed are the ones that actually happen either the week before the weekend we arrive, or the week after the weekend we arrive - there's a lot of birthdays in a 2 week period. :)

Are you saying the kids you know get a cake all to themselves on their birthday? Or a cake with just their name on it, but they share with everyone?

I've never done a cake just for the birthday kid, and really wouldn't start that at Disney.

We have 12 ppl total, 1 cake is enough. If we had to celebrate just one child, I don't know which I'd choose.

Podium cakes are out due to dietary restrictions. we could do cupcakes, but considering the safe cupcakes are made here at my home, frozen, shipped to FL to have plain white frosting put on top, and the price doubled, it just doesn't sound appealing to me.

I can't imagine each birthday child not having a cake with their name on it! They don't need their own cake to eat, but a cake with their name on it! Are you celebrating at home too?? If so then scratch what I just said...if not then a cake with their name!!

Did you consider doing mini cakes for each instead?

Yes, each child has their own party at home, this is just an extra at Disney. :goodvibes

I'd have to actually call to check, but I believe mini cakes would end up being way over budget for the number we'd need and would not be as cool as a larger cake. The point, for us, of getting a cake at Disney, is to get something well beyond my decorating capabilities - I can do the mini cakes quite easy myself. If we could still get fancy themed mini cakes, maybe I'd consider it.
