OFFICIAL Disney Cake Chatter Thread - Part III

The birthdays listed are the ones that actually happen either the week before the weekend we arrive, or the week after the weekend we arrive - there's a lot of birthdays in a 2 week period. :)

Are you saying the kids you know get a cake all to themselves on their birthday? Or a cake with just their name on it, but they share with everyone?

I've never done a cake just for the birthday kid, and really wouldn't start that at Disney.

We have 12 ppl total, 1 cake is enough. If we had to celebrate just one child, I don't know which I'd choose.

Podium cakes are out due to dietary restrictions. we could do cupcakes, but considering the safe cupcakes are made here at my home, frozen, shipped to FL to have plain white frosting put on top, and the price doubled, it just doesn't sound appealing to me.

Sorry for the confusion. The kids I know get a cake with their name only. They share it with everyone. The purpose is to make it their special day not a shared day with many people celebrating birthdays. As I mentioned earlier, twins are usually the exception.

FWIW, Baby Cakes in Downtown Disney appears to have smaller options for those with allergies. We don't have allergies, so I can't make suggestions. Sorry

I can't imagine each birthday child not having a cake with their name on it! They don't need their own cake to eat, but a cake with their name on it! Are you celebrating at home too?? If so then scratch what I just said...if not then a cake with their name!!

Did you consider doing mini cakes for each instead?

Exactly! This is what we do. Each child has a cake with their name only that they share with everyone.

OP, I'm not saying my customs are the only way to go. I'm just saying this is the way I've seen it done & would do it myself. It's your decision. Do what you're prefer. :)

Just wondering. A friend of mine is going to Disney in the fall and wants to celebrate her daughters birthday while there. Her daughter has a gluten allergy. Can a gluten free cake be ordered to be delivered at most TS restaurants in Disney? Is one more preferable for this than others? If no for the cake, what would other options be? Thanks.

Okay gotcha! :) At home we celebrate individually, but we don't have the money or time to do multiple big celebrations at Disney. Just one cake is being ordered.

Last time we checked baby cakes they couldn't deliver for us and I'd really like a 'disney' cake for the birthday celebration. Babycakes can't do that.

No, only restaurants serviced by the GF and CR can have a GF cake ordered (as of April last year). However GF cupcakes can be ordered at most restaurants. In the past, they've been kinnikinnik brand with white frosting and mickey sprinkles.

We've had gorgeous GF and GF/corn-free cakes ordered from the GF bakery, but have never been able to get one anywhere other than the MK resorts area.

Some restaurants will have plain baby cakes bites available - these are GF - and Yummy.

This thread just keeps pulling me back, lol. After an amazing cake experience and then a bad one both last year I'm still so torn on whether or not to get one this trip.

But if we don't do a cake I've decided to go crazy trying desserts everywhere we go. Maybe that will be more fun in the end. Do we have a dessert thread? Ill have to go look.

I'm so excited, I just called the AoA line and left a message for a cake to be delivered to the room. We are looking at a 6 or 8 inch cake, fondant covered with the white chocolate Stitch surrounded by tropical flowers. This is for my daughter's sweet 16 celebration, and she went round and round about what she wanted on the cake, this was our final option, hopefully they can do without issue.

She is also having a sweet 16 party here in Tampa Bay a couple weeks later, we are having a fancy cake there too, 8" round and 10" round stacked, fondant covered in blue, with graham cracker "sand" on top of half the top cake, seashells, a mermaid shadow and dolphins shadows in the "water" of the cake. We're having a beach/pool party, so fits that theme well. I'll post pics of her Disney cake when we get it, though.

Has anyone ordered a cake for Mother's Day? We're taking my dd and her two children down a week after mom day and I would love to surprise her with a mom's day cake that we both could share at the carribbean beach resort.

@lurkyloo
You had mentioned in a previous post that they do a Jack Sparrow chocolate sculpture, do you know how much he is and if I can get at Beach club? Also do you have a picture by chance. TIA

Gee, I'd sure love to see BOTH cakes! :hyper:

Maybe you can be the first to post one here! :thumbsup2

...However, I did some calling around WDW, and apparently—even though the Grand Floridian pastry chefs have made these for *both* bridal showcases—they are not actually allowed to do any Pirates of the Caribbean characters. Not even screen prints! :sad2:

Poking my nose in here (again) in a round of prep. Didn't get to order a cake for February and celebrate my birthday early- was recouping from being sick (ew). But October I return to WDW, only this time, with a gluten free allergy.

Any one have success ordering custom mini cakes GF? Or is this a 'I'm totally out of luck' deal?

EDIT: Checked the font page. So Disney does vegan standard cakes, but it looks like I'll have to call about GF cakes? Me thinks so.
And I guess my other thought is, can BabyCakes deliver inside the park to an ADR? I know their stuff is 100% safe, had it for almost every dessert replacement last trip, and it was heavenly.

DOUBLE EDIT: Yes, BabyCakes delivers! Taken from their website:

When I call to order my daughter a Cinderella slipper for our GF Garden view Tea can I use a Disney Gift Card to pay for it or do I need to put it on a cc?

Well if the slipper is anything like a custom cake at the GF, you order it but do not pay for it up front. Pat from GF told me something about union rules do not allow for prepaying.

I prepaid a cake FROM the GF but delivered to the Polynesian, but was unable to prepay the cake I'm having at GF.

I assume the slipper would be the same. But when you pay that day/night, it will be on the bill and of course then you can use a Disney GC. I used a Disney GC for the Polynesian cake.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! :) :yay: :dance3: :thumbsup2

I will have to make sure I get it ordered :) I want to surprise my DD

I had a custom GF mini tiered cake last year ordered through Magic Kingdom Cakes prepared at the Contemporary. Only options for cake flavor were vanilla and chocolate. I think I read in the past they used the Namaste mix but I'm not sure about that. I wanted something GF but not also dairy, egg, etc. free which seemed to the the other allergy free options like from Babycakes.

 booo, it is cute, but I guess I will go another route. Do they do the 3d images on cupcakes? Thought pirate mickey on a cupcake might be cute

Anyone know a good bakery in the area that would do a cute Princess cake for my granddaughters first Birthday? We are staying at Bonnet Creek, so I am just looking for a Princess Cake that we can take back to our room for a small family party. We will have transportation for pickup. Will be visiting in July. Thank You!

How fancy do you want it? Publix cakes taste pretty good.

You mean like printing it on flat white chocolate and propping it up? They might do that, but none of the standard white chocolate figures are small enough for a cupcake except maybe that tiny white chocolate castle they put on the mini castle cake.

I like Publix cakes too! If you want something fancy, It's Tasty Too is popular with people on this board, and they deliver all over Disney.

We haven't ordered mini-cakes, but have had great success with ordering GF custom cakes. We order a GF cake for the entire party vs doing separate for the person(s) with an allergy. We've had 6, 8, and 10 in cakes in the past. Buttercream, chocolate butter cream, and a fondant covered cake. personally, we preferred the butter cream. We went through the GF bakery for ours. I can't see there being an issue with a mini cake being GF if that's what you wanted.

That being said, we did like baby cakes, it just depends what you're looking for. as far as decorations on the cake.

Hello! We are going to WDW in mid May and I want to order cake. My only question (for now) is how early should I place the order? Is two months out too early? Thanks so much!

I'm thinking about ordering the Mickey delight cake for our 25th anniversary dinner at Be Our Guest. I'd like to have it white and silver. Do they automatically write a message on the plate or do you ask? Does the Mickey head topper only come in black? Also, who do I call to order the cake and how far in advance? This thread has been very helpful, thank you.
