Official DISNEY Cake Chatter Thread - Part II

Not to trivialize your experence but I don't think everyone knows children under 1 should not have nuts. I don't have kids and have never heard this before. I am also suprised you had not had carrot cake with nuts before. I have never had it with out nuts and many times there are also nuts on the frosting.

A "Chef" from Walt Disney World or a CM that works in a Kitchen on Disney property that takes orders for cakes that a child will eat should know this and if they don't they need to, period. I did not know about the nut allergy until I had a child but that is not the point. Some/ most people have heard of this and some have not but WDW should!
I am suprised you have had nuts in the frosting??? That is nutz!

Never mind, the search function WORKED for me for once and I found out a cake can be delivered to TOTWL. YAY!

Does anyone have a picture of a 1900 park Fare Podium cake???
With it just being two of us, not sure I can justify the extra $ for a custom cake.
Thanks
Erin

I think I saw some photos of the mini cakes in different colors and stuff. How much can you request for the mini cakes as far as colors or themes or whatever? I don't want anything elaborate, but maybe a color like pink or purple or something or are there different designs?

Unfortunately Disney does not have a list of standard designs other than the one given to Disney weddings, and I've even had trouble ordering off THAT at the Grand Floridian—they acted like they'd never heard of it. In general, it's just best to have an idea of what you want and work with the contact in Private Dining to customize it: 407-824-2474. See if you can email them a picture of a minicake you've found here and have them re-create it, or just leave it up to the discretion of the chef with maybe colors as guidelines.

Called the cake hotline & special events and got the stock reply for the basic cakes. How do I arrange for that something special? Does CR's private dining deliver specialty cakes to CRT?

Yes. The # for Contemporary Private Dining is 407-824-2955.

We have dinner Ressies at 1900 Park Fare and will be celebrating V's 5th birthday. It is just the two of us, so I'd like to order a cake, and was thinking the 6 inch. I understand the price of $21 is for the basic cake, generic I assume? or does it include some personalization?

The generic podium cake can be customized with a small amount of writing, either on the cake itself or on the plate, depending on what's on top of the cake. Otherwise, they all pretty much look like these cakes, with some variation among restaurants for things like sprinkles or flowers or screen-printed chocolate discs:

Hooray! I love it when the search function works for people! :teeth:

regarding the carrot cake issue...

You ordered carrot cake. In most places, carrot cake has nuts in it. Why would the person taking your order question you? I mean, you asked for carrot cake. And that is what you got. I'm sorry you were disappointed, but it isn't up to the person taking your order to argue with you about it. :confused3

I'm excited to see pictures of some of the cakes people have ordered. I never even thought to request A's name on a tombstone on her HM cake. that would've been cool (and maybe a little weird!). :)

lurkyloo, you are always so helpful--thank you. and i love watching your wedding pictures flash by in your siggy. :)

Dinner at HDDR mid-March.

If I call 407-824-2660 at the beginning of March, I should be able to order a mini cake for under $50, right? My choices will be chocolate/chocolate or white/vanilla. I can add a white chocolate castle or something else to the top & still keep it under $50. Is any of this correct?!? I am so thoroughly confused. I've checked the link that tells exactly which places have cakes, but the mini-cake thing is what's getting me. I don't see them listed anywhere, so I don't actually know whether or not they are available. Help please! There are only 3 of us, and I want DD to have a birthday cake that's a little more personal than the podium cake, but not over the top. I have no idea what I would want it to look like, that's why the castle seemed easiest.

A minicake is like a fancy cake, so for Ft. Wilderness, you'd need to call the Contemporary's Private Dining at 407-824-2955. Ask for the pastry chef's email and work with him to design what you want. I'm not sure that the Contemporary has the mold for the small white chocolate castle topper — those are usually done by the Grand Floridian. But a mini cake shouldn't cost you more than $35 or $40 unless it's crazy over-the-top elaborate. :thumbsup2

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I don't know why this was such a hard thing to get my head wrapped around! I cannot wait to surprise DD with this trip. She has wanted to return to HDDR for 5 years now, but we could never justify using 2 credits on it. She is going to be thrilled and this is literally 'the icing on the cake.' ;)

Talk about beating a dead horse....I guess you missed the whole point...Did you not read the part about some people have not heard about nuts in carrot cake???? How about the part where kids can have an allergic reaction from eating nuts??? Who even suggested that there be an argument??? I guess you are agianst CMs telling people that there are nuts in the carrot cake even if it takes two seconds and to hell with the person that has an allergic reaction because they should have known???? Plus, we were not that upset with the whole situation. We had a wonderful time and get this, nobody argued!!! Have a little common sense!! :confused3

I think there's disagreement on the thread as to who was actually responsible for assuring there was no potential problems with the cake. Regardless, there's not need to be rude with replies.

I just got back from Disneyland a week ago. I ordered this cake from Chef Ramirez at the Grand Californian hotel and spa. It was beautiful. Exactly how I dreamed and better. The flavor was a sponge cake with one layer of pineapple mousse filling, and the other layer a mango mousse. He even made the inside of the cake rainbow colored for added fun! Total cost with tax $130. I personally designed this and sent the drawing to the chef.

Pretty!

Hi all! Just celebrated our 1 year anniversary at Disney. We had dinner at the California Grill and I surprised my husband by ordering a replica of our wedding cake. It came out great!

Anniversary cake:

What beautiful cakes! I don't know that I've seen the pink accents on the castle before. SO pretty!

Anyone have any pics of any Dumbo or Bambi cakes? hopefully from the contemp resort? Wanting to get one for a birthday next year and was hoping to see some for ideas.
Thanks.

my son has a nut allergy, so i do have common sense. but thank you. :)

and as a mother of a child with an allergy, i do know that they are VERY careful and detailed when they know that someone has an allergy. they go above and beyond to be careful. and i didn't say anyone argued. i said that it wasn't up to the CM to argue with you about your order. he/she is simply taking your order and is not there to question what you order. obviously you were upset since you complained and got the cost of your cakes taken off your bill.

however, i would have been irritated by the bubble in the fondant.

and that will be my last reply on that issue.

Top was chocolate peanut butter cup and bottom was yellow cake with Bavarian cream and fresh raspberries, with whipped cream icing. Smash cake was just yellow cake with white chocolate mousse

I really LOVE that cake.....would you mind sharing the cost? Thanks!!

Which places can we have a cake delivered if we order from the contemporary resort?

You can search the thread by key word...I don't remember seeing anything in either theme, but it can't hurt to check. You might also try an image search on Yahoo and Flickr. I've seen a few on both and while the execution is only so/so on what I've seen...it may be helpful for ideas. I don't know if this helps, but I had friends looking into cake designs for both of those movies... the two Bambi designs we liked included a blue cake with the fondant marbled and glossed to look sort of like ice w/Bambi on top of the ice...the other involved Bambi, Thumper and Flower in a lush garden of sugar flowers. The Dumbo idea was similar to something I saw on Flickr...basically the cake was designed to look sort of like circus drums/barrels and Dumbo was sitting on top w/Timothy Mouse.

Hi there! I'm new to this forum, I'd like to order the Star wars Mickey cake for my son's birthday, but I have some questions I'd like to ask you if you don't mind:

Can I order it for delivery to chef Mickey restaurant for dinner?

What's its minimum size?

What and how many ingredients can be used for the filling?

Do they put bday candles on the cakes?

Thanks a million to you all!!
