Official DISNEY Cake Chatter Thread - Part II

Has anyone had someone tell them that they won't do non-Disney themed cakes? I just spoke to someone at the Boardwalk Bakery & explained that I wanted a tropical floral design and she told me she doesn't think they'll do it because it's not Disney themed! She also told me I was calling too soon & to call back in another 2 weeks. (I knew I was calling a little early but had some questions, which she was able to answer.) I guess I'll call back in a couple weeks & hope for the best. :confused3

I hope they'll do it!

I think I'm on the right track now. I called the number for BWI/BWV rather than the cake hotline & spoke to a lovely woman named Jessi. I emailed her some pictures from our wedding & hope to hear back from her soon with some ideas. :thumbsup2

for the CRT breakfast, getting one of the mini cakes with the castle topper... how much does that run for the basic flavors etc

The 1-tier mini cake with white chocolate castle topper is about $30 but I've only ever seen it done by the Grand Floridian. You need to go through the Contemporary Bakery for CRT, so you'll have to ask them if they can do something similar: 407-824-2955

for the park fare dinner, getting the glass slipper for my niece ($15?), then can they do a painted tinkerbell on a plate with something written on the plate? (for my sister) and a painted pluto? (for me!!) and what is the cost of the painted figures?

if so, how long do the painted figurines last typically? we wouldn't eat it!!

White chocolate figures last forEVER if you keep them at the right temperature. Many Disney brides have held on to their white chocolate castle cake toppers for years. Complete info on the figures available and pricing can be found toward the bottom of this FAQ.

Hey guys - We are back from our trip. I had ordered a custom cake for our dinner at Sanaa. It was close to impossible ordering this cake, but I finally got it done.... but the issues kept coming when they delivered the wrong cake to our table!!!! Heres a picture of the first cake we got - The wrong one....

Its very cute, and was probably ment for someones anniversary.... After asking for the manager, and being told several times that this was the cake that had my name on it, and that it was the only cake in the restaurant, they finally found the one I ordered. Here it is...

Sorry the pictures aren't great - They were taken with my cell phone. We did take pictures with a real camera. If I ever get around to downloading them off the camera, I'll post again. The price of the cake I ordered (the second cake delivered) was $125.

We are going to WDW in just weeks to celebrate our latest adoption, on the 18th of Nov. It will also be weeks from our daughter's first birthday.

What type of cake would you suggest??? We will be at Crystal Palace, hoping I can get OHana, Biergarten, and Kona for breakfast.

Thanks!!

Has WDW changed the way they do custom cakes, or have I somehow gotten ahold of a wrong number?

Last year I got a FABULOUS custom cake to surprise my dad for his sixty-se...I mean, twenty-ninth birthday. :rotfl: We got the amazing pirate-theme cake (since he's a huge Pirates of the Carribean fan) and they personlized it for him. Brian was the name of the person we coordinated with (I believe he's at the GF) and we sent several emails back & forth until we got the size, theme, flavors down. He then instructed me to call the cake hotline to place the order and that was it.

So this year we're going to WDW to celebrate my MIL's birthday and I'd like to surprise her with a custom cake, this time one that's gluten-free. Emailed Brian, told him what I wanted, sent a couple of pictures and he said it would be no problem. He gave me the number to call to give my cc info and make the final reservation...and it's a voice mailbox. I left a detailed message, including everything I'd discussed with Brian, date/time/reservation number, etc. Today I got a generic email from a person at the restaurant where we'll be eating (Les Chefs de France) telling me that podium cakes are available with characters added for $2.00 extra.

I emailed back reiterating everything I'd discussed with Brian and asked about GF options....and again got the same standard "we have podium cakes available..." answer.

Has WDW changed their policies re: custom cakes? Can we not get a custom cake delivered to LCdF? (We ate at the Wave last year) Should I email Brian again? Help! :confused3

Here is the deal: There is no central place making cakes for the restaurants at Walt Disney World. Chef Brian works at the Contemporary, which is why he made your cake for The Wave. He only makes cakes for restaurants at locations serviced by the Contemporary (Wilderness Lodge, Ft. Wilderness, MK and Contemporary).

Les Chefs de France is serviced by an outside bakery. They only offer standard choc/choc or vanilla/vanilla cakes in a couple of sizes. This is why you got that email about podium cakes.

The only way to get a custom cake delivered to a restaurant inside Epcot is to call the Yacht & Beach Club Bakery: 407-934-3105

This info just scratches the surface of the labyrinthian cake-ordering system at WDW. Full details are HERE.

Thank you SO much for that info. I knew there was some division between the resorts; however, I just figured we could go with Brian again. BTW, the cake we decided on was a variation on your wedding cake topper! My MIL (who has no idea what I'm doing) saw me going through cake photos at this site awhile back and stopped me when we saw that one - she loved it. :lovestruc

Sooo...in your experience, do you think we ought to change our reservations or is the BW bakery fairly easy to deal with? (I love Brian just because I know how to talk to him and because I know his work...but I'm willing to work with any baker, as long as s/he's not grumpy.) :)

Wait, I hope that didn't sound weird and stalker-ish...

Okay, maybe I missed it, but does anyone have a picture of the zebra cake available through the Animal Kingdom Lodge bakery? Taking DD there for her 14th birthday, it's her dream resort and just wanted to make things a little more special. :goodvibes

Dh and I arrive on 11/12. On that date, can we order (in person @ the BW bakery) a two-tiered small cake to be picked up on 11/16 (for DD's birthday); or should we call and make the order a full week in advance?

Thanks in advance to all and especially to lurkyloo for her dedication and inspiration.

"It's a Small World" themed cake at O'Hana's would be so sweet & have so much meaning!

We got one for my partner two years ago and this is what it looked like when they delivered it to our room in Kidani Village. It was sooooo good. I still crave it once in a while. :rotfl:

Hey guys!!! I am going to Disneyland in a month. Does anyone know DL's limits? All these cakes look like they are from wdw. I want something wonderful for my 20th birthday and not some premade cake that I could make at home for cheap. I am a decorator myself so I want a cake that is beyond my own skill level

the design I want. King Triton's castle on top, a sea green/blue base, some stargazer lillies and pink roses surrounding the castle and tapering off the cake, some starfish, and a happy birthday message. How much do you think it will cost? princess:

We will be at Vero beach next week.....do any of you know if you can get a "disney" cake there? I am going to research, but I know it is faster just to ask a dis-er.

Thanks

Cheryl

:lmao: No, that's really cool! I think you'll be fine with having Yacht & Beach Club private dining do your cake (Boardwalk doesn't deliver inside Epcot). Their cakes are usually really nice.

:) That should be enough time. They usually say they need just 48 hours' notice, though maybe it's different with specialty cakes. Can you call?

I just heard from someone who said Disneyland was only offering them very basic cakes (despite the fact that they make elaborate wedding cakes for Disney weddings there), so you'd need to speak with them to find out. Alternatively, I'd suggest finding an independent bakery in Anaheim that would deliver to your hotel.

I interviewed a woman who got married at Disney's Vero Beach resort, and as I recall Disney made her wedding cake there. So I think the answer's yes!

Thanks lurkyloo.....I knew you would have the answer. I am going to call there later today and order it!

Taking the leap... I have been inspired (and frightened as well) by some of the cakes in this thread. I have decided to get a fancy cake for my Husband's 44th birthday. We are traveling with the kids and I would like to make it extra special for all of them... and noshing on cake in the room for a couple of days would not be too difficult for us.

We will be at Sanaa (and staying at Jambo AKV) for lunch on Thanksgiving which is also on his actual Birthday this year. He loves Dumbo so I am trying to arrange a Dumbo circus theme cake (see picture for my inspiration)

10 inch Fondant... white cake and chocolate mousse filling. With Dumbo cut out topper and chocolate Happy Birthday cut out banner.

I am working with Amber from Boma and she is very nice.
