:worship: Thanks for your help, Lurkyloo!

GRRRR...I cannot get a human being on the phone. I have called the direct line (in addition to the general cake hotline) to the Y&BC Bakery and each time, I get a voice mail message. I have left all the specifics (party size, restaurant name/ressie time/date, Gluten-free, etc.) and nobody will call me back. I keep getting those insipid response emails stating that I can get a podium cake at the restaurant...

I have actually changed our reservation to our resort hotel (Turf Club restaurant) just so that I can deal with a different bakery. :sad2:

We are going to WDW in just weeks to celebrate our latest adoption, on the 18th of Nov. It will also be weeks from our daughter's first birthday.

What type of cake would you suggest??? We will be at Crystal Palace, hoping I can get OHana, Biergarten, and Kona for breakfast.

Thanks!!

Just read the adoption part....we too are adoptive parents and have a cake for the kids gotcha day every year. We did have one at Disney....just had a plain top with the words "GOTCHA" on it. For son's birthday one year we did a Mickey Face at Boma. My niece just celebrated her 16th there and they did a cake with Cinderella's slipper which was very nice.

Have a great time.

Cheryl

Just placed an order for our family vacation....SIL's birthday. This is the 1st time I've ordered for a stay at OKW. The CM who returned my call was very nice, but she stated that they usually only use the eatable prints on top of the cake. I wanted something a little more than that.......I think I've been spoiled by Chef Brian at BLT!!! :goodvibes Soooooo I order a Mickey Mouse Head cake. It should do the trick. :thumbsup2 Of course I ordered chocolate!! :rotfl:

Me, too! I LOVE Brian! :lovestruc:love::love::lovestruc

We're trying to get a cake at SSR, serviced by the same bakery as OKW. I can't even get a CM to call me back - a lady named Alicia keeps sending me the same stock email stating that I can get a podium cake. Um, they're not gluten-free! :rotfl::headache: She's obviously not listening to my messages.

BTW, Lurkyloo, most of the information on that link has changed. :scared1: (totally not your fault!). The Y&BC bakery no longer services DTD restaurants and the lady that sends me emails insists that I can't get a fancy fondant cake at Epcot (or at least @ Les Chefs de France).

The very kind CM I just spoke with directly at Y&BC said that Disney is "in the middle of changing the entire system around" and that everyone is "kind of confused" right now. She told me that the best course of action right now is to call the restaurant directly and find out what kind of cake you can do there.

...and so continues the saga of my poor MIL's surprise gluten-free fancy fondant covered birthday cake that looks just like Lurkyloo's wedding topper, only in blue...:rotfl:

Please keep everyone posted regarding how you finally made out with your custom cake order. My family and I are staying at Saratoga Springs in four weeks and I am planning to order a custom cake from the Boardwalk Bakery and possibly have it delivered to the resort. I will be able to pick it up if necessary though.

That's weird. Somebody on this thread just got a fancy cake delivered to Coral Reef by Yacht & Beach Club bakery a week or two ago. :confused3 Have you spoken to Yvette at Y&BC private dining? She's the one who seems to know the most about custom cakes there...

It could be that while Y&BC can deliver to Epcot restaurants owned by Disney (like Coral Reef) they can't deliver to restaurants owned by outside companies (like Chefs de France). Which leaves you with just the standard cakes those restaurants order from outside vendors. Bleh...

BTW, Lurkyloo, most of the information on that link has changed.

Maybe for Yacht & Beach Club Bakery as it pertains to getting cakes delivered inside Epcot or Downtown Disney, but the information about the 19 other Disney resorts and 3 other theme parks remains the same. :thumbsup2

You may be right. Of course, it would be SO much easier if a CM would just tell me this!

You know, I am beginning to realize that I have to double (and triple) check the information CMs give me. After being given the run-around today (and after changing the stupid reservation to Turf Club b/c I couldn't get anything at LCdF), I was finally told I had to call SSR directly and was given the number. I left a message and hopefully I'll get to the bottom of this tomorrow. Assuming the lady there calls me back. ;)

Hi everyone,

I just finished my order for Dec 8th. My ordering saga went like this:

Three calls over two weeks to get a call back from a CM
CM calls and tells me I need to talk to Brian
Email Brian, send him photos, he quotes a price, tells me to call to place the order
More back and forth to get a return call and the order is placed! :thumbsup2

I'm hoping that there isn't any question about matching up my order details to my phone order since I didn't place the actual order with Brian, but I know these guys do this all the time. :D The process took a little longer than I would like, but I'm sure they're going to do a great cake!

I was quoted $350 for a two tier 6/10" cake with pirate decor. I requested that they do all decor in buttercream, with minor fondant accents and no draping. I would have preferred 6/8", I'm not sure why they came up with the 6/10".

I will post photos when we return!

We had a very similar experience last year. Once you *finally* get to Brian, it's all good. :goodvibes He is a man of few words, but he is a master with cake! We did a pirate theme cake for my dad, but wanted some personal touches - Brian did an amazing job! I, too, worried that I needed to talk with him again or that he might not have rec'd the photos, etc. but there was no need - everything was great.

I hope you like your cake as much as we liked dad's....and I just need to reiterate how much I MISS working with him this trip. :sad1:

Are there ever instances where the Yatch and Beach Club Bakery services Hollywood studios?

Since they are about 20 minutes from each other?

I have never heard of this. DHS has its own bakery, so when you call the Cake Hotline, that's who you get routed to. You could try calling Yacht & Beach Club bakery to see what they say, though. Phone number is HERE.

So I finally heard back from a human being re: Les Chefs de France (even though I've already changed the ressie to Turf Club@). Alissa is the contact person at the restaurant and she confirmed what someone else here said: it's not a WDW owned restaurant and therefore cannot accommodate specialty cake requests. Lesson learned.

Still waiting to hear back from a lady named Joanne from SSR. She's the food & beverage lady at the resort. Apparently, at least at SSR, one has to contact the resort's food and beverage person, not the servicing bakery, when making specialty cake requests. She then takes the request to the servicing bakery, then gets back to the customer. *reminds me of Office Space - "I deal with the _______ customers!* :rotfl:

Gosh, could Disney make this any more confusing?

That is the case everywhere on property: http://disneytravelbabble.com/how-to/order-cake/by-location/

BoardWalk Bakery services most of the resorts that don't have their own bakeries, but you can't call them directly to get a cake delivered to your resort. You have to work through your resort.

Wow, that was a saga... it was way easier to order from AKV for our Thanksgiving lunch at Sanaa... than what you had to deal with... I called the hotline... got routed to a woman who routed me to Chef Amber at Boma... got Amber's email and sent her pics with what I wanted and voila...we were a go with a price... She was very nice and easy to talk to, she transferred me back to the ordering $$ people. Took about 1 hour from start to finish with 2 sets of calls ... mine to the hotline and then returning Amber's call plus one email. I was very pleased with the process at least... of course (knock on wood) we will see how my cake turns out... pics to come in a couple of weeks.

10 inch fancy fondant cake (white with chocolate mousse) with a Dumbo circus theme :goodvibes

I just placed my order for my son's birthday cake. It was a completely painless process, the only glitch being my inability to c&p a photo of a cake directly into my email to the bakery. (Stupid Mac. Stupid gmail. But I eventually prevailed. :thumbsup2)

We'll be staying at BWI, so I called the number listed on lurkyloo's post here: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=40915753&postcount=2401 Jessi answered the phone, we talked for a bit about what they could do & what I wanted, then she gave me her email address so I could send her photos. (Insert my technical issues here.) After a few quick back-and-forth messages, we got things squared away. She quoted me a price of $100 for the 10" fondant cake I requested, and gave me the number to BWI private dining to place the order. I called, gave them all the info & told them I'll pick the cake up at BW Bakery. Easy-peasy. Which means I'm waiting for something to go wrong.... ;)

I'll try to remember to take & post a pic of the final product.

Hi! I need some help / clarity! We are headed to WDW in 11 days, and will be celebrating my daughters 4th birthday down there on Nov 27th. We are doing BBB and CRT for lunch that day. I would like to order a cake for her. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, as this is more for the excitement for my DD - not because we are looking for a fabulous cake. My question is, what is the "next tier up" from a basic podium cake? What I would love is to get a simple 6 inch chocolate cake, with buttercream frosting, and ideally with a cinderella slipper on top, or something else 'princessy' on top. What are my options? And which number do I call? Can I call now, since we are 2 weeks from arriving - or should I wait until 2 weeks from the day we will be eating in CRT?

Thanks so much for your help!

You might like the Mickey Mouse head cake - it's super cute, very detailed, but I don't think it costs an arm and a leg. :) Take a look at the photos on the first page of the cake thread (sorry - headed out the door, so can't provide a direct link) and you'll find it on there. ;)

As for ordering, yes. You should call now - it's totally not too early (and better to get this done ahead of time). This is the link Lurkyloo initially posted with phone numbers: http://disneytravelbabble.com/how-to/order-cake/by-location/#boardwalk

I'm surprised. Once I got ahold of the person at SSR (next to OKW), she was able to put my request through! Yippee! I would *assume* that you could do the same at OKW since the resorts are right next to one another...:confused3

As for my saga, it's over. Yay! I have learned a few things:

1. If you're dining at a restaurant serviced by the Contemporary bakery, get ahold of Brian. He is amazing, returns emails, and the process is smooth (I miss you Brian!)

2. If you're dining at another resort, call the resort directly and have pictures ready to email. If you have a special request (like we have to do GF cakes), I think it increases the likelihood that you'll get what you want. Don't call the bakery (even though the cake hotline puts you through to the servicing bakery) - call the resort.

3. Disney only owns some of the TS restaurants at EC and only one (or perhaps two) in DTD. Here's the list of WDW-owned restaurants in Epcot:
Biergarten-Germany

Coral Reef – Living Seas

Garden Grill – the Land

Le Cellier – Canada

Rose & Crown – UK

Akershus Royal Banquet Hall - Norway

This makes a difference because if you wind up at a non-WDW owned restaurant, you will not get anything but the standard podium cake. :sad2:

Now, Lurkyloo probably knows all of this and more - she is the cake goddess around here! :worship: :rotfl: I will post pictures of the copy-of-Lukyloo's-wedding-cake-topper-for-my-MIL-with-champagne-taste after our trip. :goodvibes
