Official DISNEY Cake Chatter Thread - Part II

Bear with me here because I'm exceptionally excited about this absolutely brilliant (IMO, lol) idea I just had.

I'm currently trying to get pregnant and have to use fertility medicine to do so. With my DD, we got pregnant after the first attempt with the meds & I'm hopeful that this baby will be the same way. If that's the case, I'll be ~7 weeks pregnant when we're in WDW with my family. I'm one of those unfortunates that start to show incredibly early. With DD I was in maternity pants at 10 weeks. So I'm afraid that it'll be a struggle to hide from my parents, brother & SIL when we're on vacation.

So I'd like to surprise them by announcing it while we're on vacation. I've been trying to think of a fun idea & this evening it hit me: a special cake!

I don't want to spend a lot (after all, I've got to start saving for that extra mouth that will need fed, lol)... under $75 preferably. Also, we don't have a lot of TS dinners scheduled. Just the Biergarten & Sci-Fi Drive-In. We do have a buffet breakfast at AKL lodge booked. We're staying at POFQ.

I'd love any/all advice, ideas & suggestions you guys might have. I'm definitely not the creative or imaginative type but I think this would be a really fun surprise for my family (and DD).

Can you tell me what kind of fillings you were offered? The mini wedding cake is the perfect size for our anniversary, since, we will also be on the dining plan.

I literally JUST got off the phone with the Boardwalk Bakery and they said fillings were "no problem" and I picked the chocolate mousse or fudge...whatever it ends up being...haha!! They were VERY nice and accommodating!!

I was told that the bottom tier of the cake is 4" and that the top tier of the cake is 1 1/2"'s round. I told them that I wanted all white decorations and wanted it very simple and classic. They also told me that it only feeds 1-2, but we also have Deluxe Dining so plan to order a two desserts from Flying Fish anyways...so that is more than enough. It will be very cool to share a mini wedding cake with my 1 1/2 year old son and hubby!

I don't understand the inconsistences with the cake ordering. Many people have said you could get the mini wedding cake with different fillings. My DBF has been emailing back and forth with Pat from the GF about a private dinner for my birthday and she said this to him:

"Please note, the miniature wedding cake doesn’t have a filling – it is only 3-inches round and meant for one person."

Is this the one others are getting choices of fillings? Am I the confused one?

I was offered a filling for my daughters mini wedding cake.

Hi All - Headed down in October celebrating my MILs 83rd bday and my son's 4th. I wanted to get each of them one of those small treasure chest type cakes on evening at dinner, but I keep reading conflicting information.

I've read that pretty much all TS restaurants have them in stock and you must ask at the podium when you arrive. Then I was told that many restaurants dont have them at all??

We have dinners planned at Cape May Cafe (Tentative), Teppan Edo and Tony's. Can anyone tell me if it's an option? Are they something I need to order in advance?

I made a last minute decision to have a cake made for our 23rd wedding anniversary at California Grill two weeks ago. Chef Brian was great!! Here is our anniversary cake --- I've always wanted a mad hatter cake and he did an awesome job!! It was vanilla cake with strawberry mousse filling, then I had Cinderella's slipper added to the top of the cake. Our server told us he was stopped three times in the restaurant when he brought the cake to our table by people wanting pictures.

All of the resorts have the abiliity to make cakes, but only some can do the big fancy fondant cakes. Since you want it under $75, the fondant cakes are out for you anyway since they START at $75. I would just call the bakery at the resort you're staying at and tell them what you're trying to do. Using the Disney Babies characters would be cute if they can do it!

I ordered this cake for our December honeymooon, through Pat at the GF. I found her slightly difficult to work with....Everything I wanted she made it sound like I was "bothering" her..... I described as best as I could what I wanted, and even though I loved the end result, it was NOT what I ordered or had hoped for! It was chocolate cake with white chocolate mousse filling...Not the filling I preferred, but that was basically one of the only options available. In october, we are using Brian from the contempoary for Dad's "Welcome to Disney Cake" and hoping for better results.

Thanks! I just called and spoke with Pat at GF. She quoted me $81 for a 6 inch chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and pink buttercream icing with a 3d white chocolate minnie on top. $21 for the cake, $30 for the decorations, and $30 for the minnie. Does that sound about right?

I paid $66 for a cake at GF, 6" with 2 white chocolate decorations and I think $30 for the fondant. So for them that sounds right. For Contempory it seems like you can get a much better price.

Just got back from vacation. I had ordered a cake to welcome my kids for their first visit. We were eating at 1900 Park Fare so I worked with Pat. She wasn't very enthusiastic to be making my cake which was disappointing and had seemed to be unable to do any of the fancy flavors or fillings. I had asked for red velvet with cream cheese frosting and if that could not be done chocolate with buttercream.

We received a 6" red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. I got Cinderella's mice as I requested and blue fondant. She put the welcome message on white chocolate and chose flowers and mickey's on the outside.

The cake was good, not exceptional. I don't think I would do this again. It was $66 and after all that I could have definitely done without the fondant. The decorations started to melt almost immediately after reaching the table and they didn't have much flavor.

Sorry you were dissapointed with it - it seems that the disney custom cake section is starting to really go down as far as customer service. If it makes you feel any better, I think its a wonderful little cake!

Thank you so much for this thread! I contacted the Yacht Club about a Jedi Mickey cake and was told the 3D Mickey character was $125 plus the cost of the cake. Yikes! That is more than some cakes on this thread! A 10in buttercream cake with Jedi Mickey would run $170.

Has anyone else ordered a Jedi Mickey cake lately?

I was quoted the exact same for the Jedi Mickey cake when I phoned a few weeks ago. I'm not going to go ahead with it at that price either.

this thread is amazing!! I am drooling over all the delicous looking cakes Can't wait to get my hands on one.

Here's the deal. I want to get my mom a cake for when we have dinner at Narccoossee's. So Grand Floridian. We will be there in 74 days, not that I'm counting down or anything.

When should I think about ordering? Do I just call the cake hotline, leave a message and the appropriate person will call or email me back? It sounds like I will be working with the Pat....am I to worry? I keep reading some negative experiences.

I'm looking for the 6" mini mad hatter cake. Just want a basic. fondant. some flowers. basic color on the outside. fudge filling. white cake. what would you think it would cost me?
