Official DISNEY Cake Chatter Thread - Part II

I just called and ordered a Dopey cake for my daughter on November 3rd at 50's restaurant. I thought it would be a fun place for her to get it. We got my daughter one at Scifi in January and it was delicious.

I'm really not getting this cake thing. We will be celebrating my friend's son's birthday at T-Rex. We are staying at POFQ and our friends are staying at SSR. What are our options as far as where to get a cake??

I'm looking for the 6" mini mad hatter cake. Just want a basic. fondant. some flowers. basic color on the outside. fudge filling. white cake. what would you think it would cost me?

Does anyone have a picture of a "mini" Mad Hatter cake?? I was not aware that the was a mini option, and I am thinking this would be a better size option for my small party of 3.. TIA! :)

When should I think about ordering?

2 weeks out.

Do I just call the cake hotline, leave a message and the appropriate person will call or email me back? It sounds like I will be working with the Pat....am I to worry? I keep reading some negative experiences.

I think it's mostly a communication issue. She has her Disney interdepartmental bakery lingo and we laypeople don't always make requests that jive with that.

OK, whatever you do, don't ask for "6-inch" and "mini" in the same breath — they're two different things to Disney! :rotfl:

This is a 6-inch Mad Hatter cake. It costs anywhere from $125–$225 (but could be more), depending on decoration, and serves 6-8 people:

This is a mini cake with a Mad Hatter theme. It costs $25-$45 depending on decorations and serves 1 or 2:

First, decide where you want to have the cake delivered (T-Rex is out—they don't do cakes, but they'll probably look the other way if you bring one in). Then click HERE and scroll down to see your options for the place you picked.

Alternatively, you might want to work with a local independent bakery and see if they'd deliver a cake to you at T-Rex. Sometimes the mom 'n' pop places are flexible.

Pretty much you just call the cake hotline (407-827-2253) and then follow the prompts to either a restaurant or resort that you want your cake made at. Unfortunately T-Rex is not a WDW owned/operated restaurant (owned/operated by Landry's) so getting a WDW cake there is not possible. Check out the first post in this thread for a ton of helpful info.

See above. ;)

.

Thank you for that information!! I would hate to end up with ALL that extra cake....thats a HUGE difference in cakes...we'd be eating forever:rotfl2: All though, maybe not a bad thing.

I am less than 3 weeks away! I want to order a cake and have it delivered the morning of my daughter's birthday from Animal Kingdom Lodge where we are staying. She wants the cake to look like the one from the movie Sixteen Wishes. It's pretty basic, white and pink buttercream with hearts. Does this sound doable? How do I go about doing this? Do I just call the AKL number with a credit card payment and instructions?

Lurkyloo! Wedding help! :goodvibes Ok so our rehearsal dinner is 11/9 at Kona Cafe and I need to feed 18 people with cake! I know Poly doesn't have a decent bakery so who am I contacting? Chef Brian at the CR or someone at GF? Anyone know my options for cake sizes? Thanks!

Hi! :goodvibes
I ordered this cake for our December honeymooon, through Pat at the GF. I found her slightly difficult to work with....Everything I wanted she made it sound like I was "bothering" her..... I described as best as I could what I wanted, and even though I loved the end result, it was NOT what I ordered or had hoped for! It was chocolate cake with white chocolate mousse filling...Not the filling I preferred, but that was basically one of the only options available. In october, we are using Brian from the contempoary for Dad's "Welcome to Disney Cake" and hoping for better results. :thumbsup2

I'm considering moving our "after wedding lunch" to the Wave (which I don't even like, but he does) to work with Chef Brian. After not feeling comfortable with our phone conversation, I designed something different myself--kind of hoping that a picture would help, and it would be less $$. I emailed it to her asking to disregard all previous cake info, that we wanted this, in vanilla with chocolate buttercream, and to kindly give me a price:

cea7b7db.jpg

She emails back that it's $125 and asked if I wanted to proceed, and I say yes :yay: (the previous quote was $189)

2 days later I get this:

Mrs. XXX (not a mrs, but whatever)

I just wanted to reconfirm your cake order.

The stripes on the outside of the cake will be lime green and hotpink with some hidden Mickeys. Plus at the base of the cake, there will be aqua fondant balls. I apologize for the inconvenience, but I just want to make sure I have everything correct for you.

____

Um, there are no hidden mickeys, there is no pink, and there are 2 colors of fondant balls-not just aqua...... this email made me want to scream!! This is my wedding cake... I even tried to make it simple!

The email then went on to say that she wanted to confirm the cake flavors were split between yellow and dark chocolate mousse and chocolate and peanut butter mousse. I asked to disregard all previous talks and go with what I just asked for. I feel like it's a neverending circle, and I'm wondering if it's just me?? I really feel like I may need to change venues.

((oh and don't make fun of my makeshift cake mock-up, lol---i'm no professional, but I think it is pretty easy to see what I want--if not, please let me know I'm being irrational, lol)

Oh heck I'm all sorts of confused. I have two little little ones so I'm pulling my hair out trying to search through all of these pages because I get "Mommy!" or "Wahhhh!" every 35 seconds because the kids are getting mad that Mommy is at the computer looking at cakes, and I even looked at the FAQ and getting even more confused.

Many moons ago I got a mini wedding cake from the Boardwalk Bakery. It was adorable, I loved it, I'd like another for our milestone anniversary. I remember it was very frustrating ordering it! I don't recall who I called-- I just remember it took a bunch of calls to get it done. I'd take the walk over there again, that's fine, but I'd prefer to have it with a meal.

I'd like to get the mini wedding cake at CRT, but it looks like this isn't an option. We're also staying at Pop, this isn't an option either, right? I remember a long while ago it wasn't, has that changed?

Help!! :) Please, I'd really really appreciate it! :)

I have been working with Yvette from the cake hotline about a birthday cake for my DD that's turning 5 Sept. 20th. We are doing Breakfast with Donald on her birthday day, but eating at Yahtsman on the 19th so we thought we would do a cake the day before. I told her that I had a budget of $50.00 and sent her pics of the different cakes that I found on the disboards that I liked. We spoke a few times and I recieved a email with some examples. Then a new email today with prices. Ill copy and paste what they sent. I seem to be getting everything that I asked for. I will post pics when we return from our trip. I am super excited to see if it's what its all cracked up to be. Wish us luck.

Here is the email.

Hi Janet,

I have received some information about the cake you were inquiring about. I have a quote from our bakery team and they have priced out the cake to be $45.00 plus tax. The pricing consists of:
mini cake for $25.00
fondant $10.00
Special Cake flavor – vanilla/strawberry combo or chocolate/peanut butter combo - $5.00
Stamps - $5.00
Mickey stamps around hot pink fondant, trim purple and yellow. (We can’t do the Tinkerbelle and Donald stamps because we don’t have these.)
We don’t have gold plates. The writing can be on a white plate or a gold cake board. The hearts with the sauce can go on either.

Please feel free to email me or call back, if this is something that fits your budget.

As for paying for the cake, we would require credit card information to guarantee the order, we do not charge you until the day you pick up. Again, the credit card that you place on file with us is only to guarantee and finalize your order. We would need to obtain this credit card information via phone, due to security reasons. We also have a cancellation policy which we would go over with you, when you finalize your cake order. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us.

Thank you,

Have a magical day!

I hope this helps anyone else that is thinking about doing the same thing. They did good with keeping me within budget. :thumbsup2

rjvose17, Thanks for sharing that!!! I'm getting ready to order a cake for our anniversary dinner on 9/18 at the Yachtsman! Now to just decide what the heck I want it to look like. I can't decide. :upsidedow

For the Poly you have to work with Private Dining at the Grand Floridian: 407-824-1951. For 18 people, I think you could get away with a 10-inch. Disney estimates it serves 16, but those are huge pieces. (For example, they also estimate that a 6-inch cake serves 5, but we had one for 4 people and barely ate half of it.) :thumbsup2

 If it were me, I would send her back an EXPLICIT description of the cake with lots of bold and underlining and highlights so that there was absolutely no room for misunderstanding. Something like ...

Cake Size: 6 inches
Cake Flavor: Vanilla
Filling Flavor: Chocolate Buttercream
Delivery Date: 12/12/12
Delivery Location: 1900 Park Fare
Reservation time: 11:30am
Name on Reservation: Mickey D. Mouse

Decorations: Cake should be covered in alternating lime green and aqua fondant stripes with alternating lime green and aqua fondant balls encircling the base. NO HIDDEN MICKEYS. Topper is black fondant mouse ears hat
(or white chocolate or whatever....)

Maybe that plus the picture will be the winning combo! :cutie:

You can get a mini cake at CRT by phoning Private Dining at the Contemporary: 407-824-2955

We are going to be celebrating 3 graduations :cool1: in Nov when we go over thanksgiving, my daughter's grad school graduation (Aug '11), MY graduation with a BS(June '11) , and my DS from high school (June '11).

So with all this celebrating I am thinking of a cake with 3 different layers. CAn I get each layer to be different flavors? Each decorated with a different theme for each person's accomplishments? Does this sound possible?

Thanks for any advice.

Here are some pictures of the FANTASTIC allergy cake that was specially made for my DD's 9th birthday party at Tokyo Dining. The Yacht and Beach Club Bakery Team did an AMAZING job! Her cake was entitled, "Growing Up with Walt Disney World". All of the pictures on the cake were from past vacations that she dearly remembers and the things that she has "grown" to love!

The presentation of the cake was fun, too. Our server brought out 2 glasses of champagne and had the couple kiss for 10 seconds while the whole restaurant counted. While they were busy with their kiss, the cake was brought to the table along with a large stack of paper plates....
