If you want the cake delivered to California Grill, then you have to have it made at Contemporary Bakery.. the Boardwalk bakery will not deliver to CG...

I had quite a mess that i had to comb through - i had all my ADR's made and ready - only to discover that only specific bakeries make fondant cakes - and then those bakeries only deliver to certain restaurants... But it's all worked out now.

Hi tvangosliga
I just ordered dd 16th birthday cake with Pat at the GF she was lovely on the phone.(She must of just been having a bad day when she took your order)
With that said, thank you for your story! We are doing the same as you all cake and tea.
I am so happy it was a great experience!

Apologies if I missed this earlier in the thread, but can you have a custom cake delivered to the BLT Top of the World Lounge?

I'm looking at a celebration during our trip in December and rather than try to stuff cake in after a big meal, I thought it might be worth it to wait until we get to the Top of the World Lounge and have the cake there. (I'm assuming they won't let me just bring it in).

Any insight is appreciated.

This is funny—I just replied to your thread on the weddings board about this very topic! :rotfl:

To have a cake delivered to Top of the World Lounge you need to call Private Dining at the Contemporary (407-824-2955) and tell them you want to get ahold of the pastry chef to arrange a fancy cake. They will give you his email address, and you can work with him on the design and price. When it's all set, he will have you call Private Dining again to officially place the order.

You don't need to call more than 2 weeks out.

Talked to Brian today at Contemporary!!

I'm having THIS altered:

but with red and yellow instead... and for my soon to be 5 year old son. It will be delivered to us on July 20 for dinner @ Crystal Palace.

My husband doesn't even know i'm doing this!!!

Can you give us some details? How big, how much, what flavors? LOL

We have always had great luck with our special cakes at WDW and I am getting ready to get one delivered to Cali Grill in Sept : )

I'm thinking about ordering the same cake too (pink and purple) - but without the Mickey on top. I love it, but it almost doubles the price of the cake, and for me, its expencive enough as is! I was thinking about just doing pretty flowers and maybe a butterfly or two up there. I just have to hope that the Chef from AKL calls me about it....

I have ordered 4 cakes from the Contemporary Bakery and just wanted to share with ya'll!

For those who were wondering or asking --

I posted my proposed designs on post #2557:
this is for our anniversary -- it is being made at Yacht Club -- Yvette has been my contact -- but i'm not sure who the actual baker is. They quickly and easily accomodated my request to recreate the mickey ear shaped wedding bands from our tshirt design on top of the cake in place of the hideous bow... all will be silver - no gold. There will also be a banner on top of the cake: "Jeff and Tracy - 12 Magical Years". I also specifically requested a Tinkerbell stamp in the midst of the stars... I told her that my budget was $75. They came back and said that they could do it on a 6 inch for $50 - but it would be "crowded" and wouldn't look as good -- and recommended that we put it on an 8 inch cake for $75. -- which is what i went ahead and agreed to. What we DIDN'T talk about was the flavor(s) and # of layers.... so i need to email Yvette and follow up on that one. The cake will be delivered to us during dinner at Coral Reef on July 17.

my other post was #2565 --
this one is being done at Contemporary - and will be delivered to Crystal Palace for dinner. white cake - dark choc. filling; The white chocolate Mickey is hand painted and is (i think) $35 by itself.
Chef Brian very quickly said that he could do the cake w/o batting an eye --- and quoted $135 -- i think my heart skipped a few beats .. but i had my heart set on this cake for such a long time... I coudn't say, "NO". I've been through the enire gallery of cakes -- and when i saw that one - i knew that was the one i wanted....

I can't wait to see the look on my kids... AND DH's face!!!!

does anyone know ---
how does the fondant TASTE??
I've heard some fondants are sweet and edible like candy or marshmallows -- and others taste like play doh ---

What is all of your experiences with the flavor of the fondant cakes you have ordered???

I can't wait to see how this turns out because I want to order this same cake to celebrate our 40th Birthdays this September.

The taste varies, but people almost never eat it—there's buttercream underneath that you can eat. I find that the colored fondant is bland and clay-like, while the white fondant (at least, on the mini cake I had) was more sugary/marshmallowy. May have something to do with the fact that the mini cake was so small, you couldn't really peel the fondant off the way you do with slices of a big cake. So they kinda have to make it taste good!

Just wanted to update this thread with some info I got today. Thanks to wdwdancerwannabe tipping us off with her cake plans, I was able to confirm with the Yacht & Beach Club that A) they now have the ability to make fancy cakes smaller than 10 inches, and B) they will deliver fancy cakes to both Epcot and Downtown Disney.

This is a godsend for people wanting to celebrate a special occasion at a restaurant in Epcot, because previously the only cake options were standard podium cakes or custom cakes decorated with nothing fancier than a screen print. Through Private Dining at the Yacht & Beach Club (407-934-3105), you can now get a cake that looks as good as the ones made by the Contemporary or the Grand Floridian inside Epcot and at most restaurants at Downtown Disney. (Only one of the restaurants at Downtown Disney is owned by Disney; for the others, Private Dining needs to contact them first to make arrangements. Definitely call Private Dining first to find out if the restaurant you want participates.) The downside is that their cake prices seem to be higher than those at the Contemporary, but at least the option is there.

i might add --- Yvette (at Yacht Club) stated that she could only do white cake and chocolate cake. The fillings were very minimal.. I wanted a fruity something as the filling --- i was only able to get a "raspberry mousse"... don't know if my DH will like that or not... but he can eat around it !!!:rotfl:

Help! I just called Boardwalk Bakery and requested a special order cake to be delivered to Olivia's at OKW, and the person on the phone said I could pick it up, but that they don't deliver to any other resort. This is contrary to what has been posted. Can someone help me out . . . .do I call back and get someone different? Or is her information correct?

I was able to pick my cake up at Olivia's. I dealt with a gentleman named Fellipe. I'll PM his email to you.

I spoke with Yacht & Beach today and was told they will not do a custom decorated cake under 10". Here we go again........
