I had asked this awhile back ,but never got any answer.....

When you post a picture of your cake, how long until it is posted to the "table of contents" for cakes??

It says not long after, but I posted my cake over a month ago...Thanks! :confused3

It all depends on when the moderator has time to move them over, and I think she is swamped right now. ;)

Question guys:

Do they deliver a cake at Kidani Village at AKL? DBF is doing the Wine and Dine Half in October, and this is where we are staying. I want them to bring in a cake for him finishing the race, so I hope we can do this...any idea?

Also, would I be able to get the special fillings here? I know he'd love Baileys or Amaretto filling...:confused3:

You would follow the same procedure for ordering a cake at The rest of AKL. The bakery's options appear to be limited, though, so you may not be able to get a fancy filling. then again, they do those zebra domes all the time - how do you feel about kahlua?

No problem! Just wanted to make sure it wouldn't get lost amongst the shuffle..:rotfl: It was a cute cake.

I'm at Animal Kingdom Lodge right now and noticed that the in-room dining menu lists "Signature Amenities" that can be delivered to your room (some require 48 hours' notice). I know sometimes people ask here about the alternatives to ordering a cake, so here's what they have at AKL:

Call 407-828-3200

The Sundowner* $30 - Serves 2-4
Assortment of dried fruits, spiced nuts, and African-style sausage

Indaba* $30 - Serves 2-4
Selection of five African flavor-inspired truffles in a chocolate coco shell

Karibuni $35 - Serves 2-4
Artisanal cheese and fresh fruit, house-made jam, and lavosh crackers

Signature Zebra Domes $20 - Serves 2
Our signature white- and dark-chocolate-glazed Amarula Mousse Dome Dessert

Kids' Create-a-Cone* $30 - Serves 2
Cake-filled cones with an assortment of toppings and buttercream icing

Cookies and Milk $25 Serves 3
Enjoy some of our fresh-baked cookies with milk

Celebrating DH and DD birthdays in May. On our first night there, we will dining at Boatwright's at POR and would like to have a cake that evening. Can they deliver a special cake there (thinking something with Ariel and Triton...daughter and daddy) or is it just the basic cake that they can have there? The only time we are eating with ADR's is at CRT and 1900 Park Fare, but both are for breakfast....don't want to do a cake then. Thanks for the help.

Sorry, I'm not too sure on the procedure. Just call Private Dining?

And I'm sure Kahlua would be fine...he is what I like to call an "alcohol connoisseur" ;) Anything with booze should be fine :rotfl:

And will they deliver straight to the room? I'm sure they would, right?

I just wanted to say that I am SO excited for this thread. My son is turning 4 the day we check in. I own a bakery and this will be the first time I will not be personally making his cake and having one of my decorators do something epic.

Can't wait to read a little more and dream up something fabulous!

I can't imagine this would be too much of a problem! I would think $150 at most? Here is what I got at the GF. I know it is completely different style cake but detailed no matter. It is an 8" cake with red fondant with Christmas theme. Yours would have a little more detail. Here is mine and I paid $100 for it.

This cake is simply beautiful. You have great taste. It's a work of art.

Thank you. But I can't take credit for it. Pat (GF) and I collaborated on this one! I gave her an idea and she ran with it. I was SO happy with it. I was vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream icing... and SO good! :thumbsup2 I would pay $100 again for a cake like this. I didn't want to cut into it because it was so pretty. :goodvibes I would def get a cake from the GF again but not from the CR.

I absolutely love this cake. So much so that we had it recreated by Brian at the CR for our 21st Anniversary dinner at the Cali Grill. Ours was a 6 inch chocolate with strawberries and bavarian creme filling. It was $75 and worth every penny. Sorry princssdisneygina, I tried to contact you for more info but had to move on my own. Our cake is on page 113 but still love GF's creation.:thumbsup2

My DH and I are traveling to WDW this September for our anniversary, staying at the YC. How far in advance should I contact someone for a "fancy" cake? (I'm thinking of asking them to replicate our wedding cake in a smaller format w/ a "Disney" theme) Also, it seems that they are more likely to deliver a cake than before - does this extend to Victoria and Alberts? Or, would it be a waste of the experience there? We also have made ADR plans at the Yachtsman.

Thanks!

Jenneth

Our trip isn't until July and I ordered our's reciently. I think 2 weeks out or more is a good idea though. Gives you time to email the baker pictures, hash out what you would and would not like, flavors, fillings and price. I couldnt tell you though if you could have it done at Victoria and Alberts though.

A couple of years ago, I called the GF bakery about having a custom cake delivered to V&A. I was told I'd have to contact V&A directly. The staff at V&A discouraged me from getting a cake. I was a little disappointed at first but you do get quite a bit of food while you're there so by the time dessert rolled around, I was stuffed. I couldn't imagine trying to eat a cake at that point.

hello everyone...I'm staying at AKL in a couple of weeks and we will be celebrating 2 birthdays so I was thinking of surprising them with a cake...
I keep hearing everyone say that akl just does "basic" cakes so im assuming they only offer like buttercream filling? what about strawberry? and as far as design I wanted to do something with the the theme of the hotel, animal print etc any ideas? or can anyone who has had a cake from there tell me what they offer?
Thanks in advance! and sorry if it has been asked already!

AKL/AKV is very limited in what they can and will do. You might want to consider looking into having a specialty cake done at a restaurant that you are eating at for more options.

This was the "animal" themed cake that I got in Dec. 2009. It was a 6" cake with chocolate filling & icing (pretty sure it was buttercream and I know that it was rather tasteless) and the white chocolate cut-out on top for $75 plus delivery and gratuity.

Here is our cake!

Ordered on 3/16
Made by Chef Brian at Contemporary for delivery to Pirates and Pals Fireworks Cruise
White cake with fresh raspberry and buttercream (?) filling-thought it was supposed to be raspberry mousse and fresh raspberries
Quoted $70, final total charged was $90

It was a great cake, and we were very pleased with how it turned out! A few things:

No one at the cruise knew about our cake even though I gave reservation number and everything while ordering it. Once they tracked it down, they said it was on its way (good thing the surprise was over at this point!) A ten minute call was made to get ready to board the cruise and finish all snacks and still no cake. It was brought to us about 3 minutes before boarding and we just sent it back to be stored until after the cruise. We ended up eating it at the Quick Service place inside of the Contemporary.

Only other complaint was our fault completely...I asked for an outdoor/muddy looking scene with jeep on top, white cake, rasp mousse filling and fondant topping. Didn't mention that we weren't big fans of chocolate and didn't think that muddy=chocolate. If I had mentioned it, I am sure it could have been done differently, so our fault and we were able to pull most of it off.

Hey no problem! I am happy to share my cake's design! It was definitely beautiful! However.... I don't remember getting a pm from you? :confused3 No biggie though! I would actually ask for a cake similar again! :thumbsup2 I remember your cake and thinking how much it looked like mine! :goodvibes Great choice! ;)

That's a beautiful cake! Could you tell me what size the cake was, 6 inch, 8 inch, 10 inch? I'm thinking I'd like something similar to this one for my DGD 6th birthday this summer.

Thanks Karen
