I've been trying to talk to someone at the Grand Floridian Bakery for about a week now. I've left my name and number and what I want.

No one has got back to me. How long should I wait before I call again and is this the ususal? How soon does someone get back to you??

Hello Cake Lovers:

This is not a question about a custom cake, I'll admit - but if you can help, that would be great!

We are cruising on the Dream in March (first cruise!), with 2 nights at the Beach Club before, but only 1 day in the parks doe to our travel times.

Our twin DS12's favourite park overall is Epcot, but one of my sons is ever so disappointed about not getting to MK for 2 reasons: 1. Big Thunder (he has cerebral palsy and cannot handle the bigger coasters but this is his favourite - went on it 10 times in a day last trip!) and 2. Main St. Bakery Chocolate Cake.

Does anyone know if this cake is served anywhere else?

Thanks!
PS The pictures here are AMAZING!!!

I just called the hotline and left a message for Teresa at epoch about dd's cake. Has anyone worked with her? What can I expect? I'm not wanting a fancy cake, just the 10 inch. I want some basic background, possibly green trimmed in purple. Dd wants to bring her Tangled small figures to have them put on the cake. Do you think they will sit them on there for me at akershus? Thanks!

I called the private dinning number at the Animal Kingdom Lodge today to order a cake for my daughters birthday. We are only there for the weekend and there are only 4 of us, so I told her I wanted a small cake. She suggested a "6" Celebration cake". Any ideas what that means? I don't need anything real fancy, but I would like it to be special. She also mentioned that I could get a stack of a few cupcakes. She said both those options I could just call from the room before we leave for the park and they can be delivered to the room while we are gone. She said both options could say "Happy Birthday" and her name, but couldn't have any pictures, plastic picks or the little chocolate toppers. Mickey head sprinkles can be put around the plate. I was looking through the pictures and I don't see something called a "Celebration Cake". I was thinking that I wanted one of the little 2 tiered cakes with the chocolate castle on top, but she said that wasn't available. Am I asking the right questions? :confused3

No one at the Grand Floridian Bakery works directly with guests. Have you been calling the Cake Hotline or GF Private Dining? Try Private Dining: 407-824-2474 :thumbsup2

Not to be a snarkypants, but it has been my experience that Disney's baked goods taste pretty much the same no matter where you get them on property. Would he be willing to try a piece of chocolate cake from BoardWalk Bakery? I betcha it tastes just as good! ;)

The "Celebration Cake" is the same thing as the readymade cakes posted in this thread, often under the name "podium cake" or sometimes even "Sara Lee cake" after the Great Outsourcing Scare of Aught-Nine. :cutie: They taste like your typical supermarket birthday cake and usually look something like this:

Two-tiered mini cakes are only made by the Grand Floridian and BoardWalk bakeries, and possibly the Contemporary Bakery—we'll have to see if CakeManBri has any input on the latter...

I have found some really cool cakes on this thread! I was thinking of doing a pirates fireworks cruise for my son's 8th bday (on the day) and was wondering if anyone knows if I can order a custom cake for the cruise on the private dining line? Has anyone actually done this and had the cake on the boat/dock area if possible?

I am thinking of maybe a cool pirate cakepirate:

Thanks!:wizard:

Thanks for the quick response! So, do I have any other options at AKL for a small cake? She told me the next option served something like 18-20 people and that's WAY more than my little family can eat in a weekend (and I don't think leftover cake will travel in my carry-on very well) Would the cupcakes be a cute option? I assume everything is made onsite because she told me they wouldn't have any problems dealing with our food allergies, even if I order them the day of.
Thanks!

Yes—the Yacht/Beach and Grand Floridian deliver cakes and food to cruises at those resorts all the time. Just call the Contemporary and ask to be transfered to Private Dining to set it up. :thumbsup2

Fantastic! Thanks for the info. I can't wait to see the look on his face!:goodvibes

Great thread Lurkyloo Thanks!:flower3:

Call the Cake Hotline listed in the first post of this thread. Follow the prompts for Ohana. If they tell you they can't do the Mickey Head Cake at Ohana, come back here and we'll give you some ideas on how to get one there. :thumbsup2

Thank you so much! I'll give it a try.

Okay...finally got my cake order in. I decided to call again and good thing I did. They were trying to call me but apparently were calling a different number for me. Don't know what happened, could be it got wrote down wrong....anyway....I'm all set for Feb.

Ordered a 8" cake- chocolate - white buttercream filling - Haunted mansion theme. $125 plus tax and gratuity. Deliver to O'Hanas.

My Daughter is going to Freak!!!! :scared1:

I need to book a cake for CRT, do I call the cake hotline or one of the resorts to order my cake? TIA

I ordered my birthday cake today :)

I got the 6" "Mickey's Delight" anniversary cake from the BW bakery. We chose vanilla cake, fruit mousse, silver Mickey head stamps (choice between silver and gold) and I asked for pastel colored flowers. I'm going to bring a figure to put on top. It will be delivered to our room (BWV) and I was quoted $75 which includes tip and gratuity.

I'm wading through this thread but haven't found any answers yet so I figure I'll just go ahead and ask.

Does anyone know what the filling choices are for the Contemporary? How about from the Boardwalk Bakery? And what is the smallest size they're customizing these days?

I'm planning to order a smallish cake for my mom to celebrate her retirement, and the best options in our dining plans are either Flying Fish or California Grill. I really don't have any good ideas for a design yet and I'm not looking for anything really elaborate, but my mom mentioned when we were talking about dining plans how great my DD's birthday cake was (from the GF/at GF Cafe) and it gave me the idea of surprising her with a retirement cake. I know I want custom, though, with yellow cake, chocolate ganache, and ???? filling - some sort of fruit or fruit mousse, depending on what's available.

Also, does anyone know if they can do the stamped Mickeys on ganache or does that require fondant?

If you're OK with a basic choc/choc or vanilla/vanilla cake with buttercream frosting, call the Cake Hotline. If you want something with fancy fillings or decorations, call Private Dining at the Contemporary.

Can't wait to see pix of these cakes! :hyper:

Does anyone know what the filling choices are for the Contemporary?

Last year they were...

Cake Flavors
Chocolate
Vanilla
Marble

Filling Flavors
Buttercream
White Chocolate Mousse
Dark Chocolate Mousse
Fruit Mousse

Icing
White Buttercream
Chocolate Buttercream
Whipped Cream

However, since then cakes have been turning up with more interesting flavors, like red velvet. Only the pastry chef at the Contemporary can tell you for sure what's available, but for a list of ideas, check out the flavors and fillings available at the Grand Floridian:

How about from the Boardwalk Bakery?

Same as the Contemporary list above—more details here:

And what is the smallest size they're customizing these days?

This is another question for the pastry chef at your chosen resort because it seems to change all the time. Lately it's been nothing smaller than a 10-inch for BoardWalk Bakery and nothing smaller than an 8-inch for Contemporary, but, the other day someone posted a 6-inch from the Contemporary—may have to do with the size of the decorations requested.

I know I want custom, though, with yellow cake, chocolate ganache, and ???? filling - some sort of fruit or fruit mousse, depending on what's available.

Also, does anyone know if they can do the stamped Mickeys on ganache or does that require fondant?

Disney doesn't do yellow cake at any of its bakeries, unfortunately. Will vanilla do? Also, I've never seen foil Mickeys on ganache—I'd guess they don't adhere properly—but don't give up hope til you hear it from the pastry chef. ;)

Hope this helps!

Sorry I missed this! It sounds like AKL won't customize less than a 10-inch cake, so you'd have to go elsewhere. The cupcakes and the readymade cake will probably taste the same, but, as a girl, I think cupcakes would probably be cuter! :cutie:

I called the Contemporary Private Dining line Wednesday morning and got Brian's email. I sent in my request for Jan 25th, but have not heard anything. I know many of you have commented on how quickly he responds, so I am starting to wonder if it did not go through. . .what to do???

Has anyone done or seen a cake done in a train theme? My DS loves trains and we will be celebrating his b-day while at WDW this Spring. Any advice is appreciated!:wizard:

Time for me to start planning! Some questions:

1. Last time for DD's b-day we ordered her the cinderella slipper which was so yummy, the perfect size (with dessert & snack credit's we didn't want anything to big) & in our budget. Any other fun, yummy & less expensive ideas out there other than the Treasure Chest? We will be staying @ BLT & eating in France that night.

2. We have celebrated DD's B-day @ WDW every other year & I thought it would be nice to have an "Unbirthday" cake for DS & DH since we are never away for their B-days. Has anyone seen one?

Love Planning! :flower3:
