Any suggestions on what to order from AKL? My parents both celebrated their 60th birthday this year and we're going to WDW in a little over 2 weeks to celebrate - it will be mom, dad, my sis and her husband, and my DH, DS7, and me. I stumbled over this thread and got the idea to order a cake to our room, but I'm feeling overwhelmed on what might be a good choice for here for a yummy cake. I'm open to suggestions!

ETA - after searching and poking around for AKL info, I finally found stuff after I posted. Sounds like AKL isn't the best place to get a cake from?

I have had three custom cakes over the past two vacations to WDW. By far, my favorite tasting cake was the zebra striped cake with amarula mousse filling from AKL (we had it served at Sanaa) Oh, my gosh--it was to die for!

WOW I just feel like saying WOW. I called cake hotline - directed to GF and I someone picked up! No answering machine. lol But I feel like something isn't right. I ordered the Minnie Mouse shaped head cake. But I asked if I could request a inside frosting/filler.. she said I could only choose chocolate or vanilla cake. Is this correct? I just want to be sure I am getting what my mother is looking forward to. A minnie head cake with chocolate cake, vanilla cream inside and covered in chocolate ganache. I just felt like the person who took my order.. wasn't in the mood today LOL :rotfl2:

I saw pictures of the mickey/minnie head cakes and they do look layered inside. So why couldn't I pick a filler or layering frosting for the inside of the cake? I just don't want to fudge this cake up.. its one thing my mother requested and it seems to be the only thing giving me grey hairs! And who wants to feel the wrath of their mother at WDW because her cake ain't right? :rotfl:

I'm sure you could change out the filling inside if it is layered but it will increase the cost of course. I'd call them back and speak to someone again. Just be real nice if the person is being mean, that changes a person's mood oftentimes. I think the Mickey Head cake is a standard cake that people order and they normally leave it as is due to cost.

When I called about a fancier cake, I had to interrupt as they were just going down a list of standard cakes, and that is not what I was calling for.

Hi again, so after reading op's post above I called GF private dining and yes...got a real person. Order was a breeze, though I wanted something simple. A mini 2 tier wedding cake, decorated for a man for my DH's birthday and a slipper dessert for my DD, saying her name and "Just Because". (She's going through a horrible breakup with her BF of 4 years.:sad2:)This was very painless and I was on the phone for no more than 5 or 6 minutes.:woohoo:
Chocolate slipper dessert $15
2 tier mini wedding cake $35
I ordered my special Christmas anniversay cake from Chef Brain yesterday. Now all I have left to do is pack!!!:thumbsup2

Hi, we're celebrating my DD's 12th birthday.

Unfortunately, neither of the restaraunts we're eating at on her Bday are ones that do the custom cakes.

So, I managed to get a reservation for the Wave on Dec1st @ 7:30, this isn't a park day for us, well, not a disney park day - it's our first ever trip to Islands of Adventure & WWOHP...

So, I'm calling in the am to order a cake (hope to get the amazing CakeManBri to make it!)

What I'm looking for is what are the flavors for the cake and fillings that they can do? I was sure I'd seen it somewhere, but it's not at the start of this thread! help please!

I'm requesting something fun and funky, with mickey heads, the Mad Hatter hat (new), and the cheshire cat (original).....

Kris

Well I called the cake hotline on thursday and I finally got a call back today. We are staying at OKW and wanted to just get a cake delivered to the room. Kind of sad that I can't get anything fancy. So I went with an all chocolate cake. I had to get a 10 in which is fine its for us to pick on while we are there. I got a chocolate cake, dark chocolate filling and chocolate buttercream icing. They are delivering it to the room though so that is a plus. Now I just have to figure out how to get back to the room so I can be there to accept it.

Finally found the thread I was looking for! Could someone PLEASE answer my questions? I have some desperate need of help!

We'll be going to Disney this December. It's my anniversary and my dad's birthday...I'm planning to surprise them with a Mini Cake and ordering one for my partner and I. Brace yourself for a load of questions:

1) We're staying in Disney's All Star Movie Resort...can Mini Cakes be delivered to your room there?

2) Who can I contact for Mini Cakes? (The Boardwalk Bakery? Or the Movies Resort? Any phone numbers?)

3) Can you customize your Mini Cakes? (Say...if I'd like to ask for one with strawberry filling and another with lemon filling...is it possible?)

4) How much does one Mini Cake actually cost? This is all so new to me.

5) Can I add chocolate strawberries and whipped cream around the cake?

Thanks! This is my first time doing anything like this and I'd appreciate any words of wisdom from veterans.

Happy Thanksgiving!

HI. This is my first time posting pics so hopefully this works :thumbsup2
Price: $135
Date Received: Nov 10, 2010
Location: Contemporary's California Grill
Cake info - Flavors, special requests, etc: We emailed Brian at the Contemporary and ordered an eight inch cake with chocolate cake and Bavarian cream and fresh strawberry filling. It also came with chocolate buttercream frosting and chocolate ganache. We asked for a Liberia themed cake with a 3-D mud hut and a few animals like monkeys, elephants, gazelle and palm trees, and a banner saying Welcome Home from Liberia queeplu (which is white woman in Mano)
Anything else special about that particular cake: Obviously the animals weren't 3-D nor were the palm trees edible, but we still thought it was an amazingly impressive cake. And after reading on the boards, I was prepared for it to either look good and taste dry or look bad and taste good, but it was beautiful and delicious, very moist and flavorful.

Ok. After being VERY excited about surprising my family with a cake again this year.... I ended up being very disappointed. :sad1: I sent an email to Brian at the contemporary asking for a cake to be delivered on 11/17 to Chef Mickeys. Told him I wanted it to be chocolate with vanilla buttercream. I wanted it to say happy birthday to my sister and dad and a welcome to disney for a friend of the family who has never been. I told him we loved wishes and Fantasmic and to get creative with it... leaving the creativity up to him in hopes to even surprise me. However, when we checked in and I asked about my cake they said... "we had it ready for you last night". WHAT? :confused3 Last night??:confused3 My reservation wasn't for the 16th! So... my heart sank :sad2: but they said it was a beautiful cake and they would take care of it. My first concern is that I was going to get the cake left over from the night before and it would be stale or something. NOPE... it appears my cake was destroyed and in an effort to redeem themselves, I received a quickly whipped up cake, the writing was very fresh when we received it and the cake was frozen. They did hit the "requests" but to me.... it was the "easy way out". It wasn't even vanilla buttercream on the inside, it was chocolate. I was quoted $65 for a beautiful 6" cake and this is what I got.....

Needless to say I did not pay for it.
Now, I know the CR and the GF are two different places but this is what I got for $100 a year before.... and it was an 8" cake. I didn't want fondant in hopes they would get more creative that plastic star balloons.

If I order a cake again it will be from the GF only. Just a very disappointing experience overall.

1) We're staying in Disney's All Star Movie Resort...can Mini Cakes be delivered to your room there?

No

2) Who can I contact for Mini Cakes? (The Boardwalk Bakery? Or the Movies Resort? Any phone numbers?)

BoardWalk Bakery is the only one on property that will let you pick up cakes. Disney won't give out a direct phone number, so you have to call BoardWalk Inn (407-939-5100) and ask to be transfered.

Grand Floridian also does minicakes, but you have to be eating or staying there (407-824-1951).

3) Can you customize your Mini Cakes? (Say...if I'd like to ask for one with strawberry filling and another with lemon filling...is it possible?)

Yes, but the flavors vary by bakery. The one rule is no carrot cake and no fresh fruit.

4) How much does one Mini Cake actually cost? This is all so new to me.

$17-$30 depending on style

5) Can I add chocolate strawberries and whipped cream around the cake?

Only the bakery can answer that question.

Good luck! :goodvibes

Does anyone know if it is possible to order an eggless cake? DH is allergic to eggs.

I am thinking of ordering my parents a 50th anniversary cake while we are in WDW during Spring Break. We have reservations at 1900 Park Fare - Happily Ever After Dinner...
I looked through a ton of pictures on the first page of this thread and I really liked the Mickey's Delight 6" in cake. Does anyone know if that cake is still an option to order from GF and have delivered during dinner? Is it only available in 6in or will they do 8in? Do I have choices of cake, filling, etc.? Can I do gold Mickey head stamps for 50 years? My parents Anniversary isn't until July but we are all going to be together - is it weird to get a cake for this...or should I do something generic?
Thanks for the help!
Debbie

Yep you can definitely do a Mickey's Delight with gold stamps, just ordered a 6", and I think they'd be happier to do an 8". :thumbsup2 I had a choice of cake and filling too. :) Have fun! Celebrate "just because" :goodvibes

just wondering what dimensions the cinderella slipper is? It looks small, but I wasn't sure. Do you think it could fit on top of the mini castle cake (instead of the castle? Also Do you know if they can make a strawberry flavored (or pink inside) cake -not a filled cake just pink cake) I made one for her 1st bday last year and would like to get her another pink cake. We will be having dinner at 1900 park fare at GF on Dec 14. Also I bought the cinderella playset from disneystore.com that has cinderella and the 2 steps/evil stepmom- would they be able to sit those around the cake (not on top of cake, but around it on the cake). We have no long distance service on our phone and I use tracfone for my cell and don't want to waste my minutes if these types of things aren't even possible. Am trying to stay at the 20-30 range for price.

thanks for any help.

The Cinderella slipper is too big for the mini castle cake. Also, the mini castle cake is not customizable at all - you just have the three flavor combo choices (choc/choc, vanilla/vanilla, cheesecake). Now if you were willing to spring for a 6-inch cake, they might be able to tint it pink for you (they tint the red velvet after all!). I have never heard of strawberry-flavored cake, but that doesn't mean they can't do it. One thing they can't do, however, is put any kind of topper or figurine you provide on the cake - you would have to do that yourself once it arrived.
