Official DISNEY Cake Chatter Thread - Part II

My husband and I are thinking about ordering a cake for our 3 kids on our 1st night in Disney World. It's their first trip to Disney and we want to make it more memorable for them. We are eating dinner at the Whispering Canyon the first night and are hoping they can make us a cake with classic Mickey Mouse colors.
We aren't going til March 11th, so I have plenty of time to order one, but was wondering if anyone has had a cake from WCC before?

We have our cake ordered from the bakery at the Contemporary to be delivered for our dinner on the 11th at Whispering Canyon. There's no delivery charge. We're getting a Steamboat Willie themed 8" cake for our youngest's 13th birthday. Cost is $65.
:cool1:

I love the people who are preparing my birthday cake. Kelly called again today and talked to me about my allergies (lactose intolerant and chocolate). She is so sweet and is making sure everything is perfect. The Chef must be extremely diligent and careful in his/her recipes as they have called me back a couple of times for clarification. Loving this :)

I am planning a cake for many months away, but my dining reservations will have to correlate with it. So, I'm trying to decide between the Contemporary and the Grand Floridian. Is GF the only place that will do a fondant 6" still?

My other question is, if anyone has had a cake from GF delivered to Polynesian, did it go without any hitches?

Y'all are so helpful!

Oh, please post pics when you get back! my daughter would love a SBW cake!

so, I called the cake hot line today and was guided by the prompts to the place where you would order a special cake. I left a message today at noon does anyone know how long it takes for someone to get back to you. Should I call back till I get a person? I'm ordering this cake for my daughters 13 th birthday and she is so excited!

i just ordered a custom cake for o'hana...i hope it comes out ok....i've only ordered from Cali Grill and Yachtsman Steakhouse in the past (have always been MORE that pleased). i'm hoping for the same from 'ohana....we're having it the 1st night at disney...this sunday. will post the outcome when we return.

Can the Mickey Delight cake be ordered from the Boardwalk Bakery or the Beach Club? We are staying at the Beach Club and I would like to have it delivered to our room. Do I need to order it from the resort or the bakery?

You would call private dining at the Beach Club (call the main number and ask to be transferred) to order a cake to be delivered to your room. Ask to speak with the pastry chef and tell him/her you want the Mickey's Delight style cake made for Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings.

Really? I just re read through the reviews with the pictures and all are happy..."de-lish" "yummmy" "very moist and tasty". Are we talking about the same cake? :confused3

What we got last week was far from"moist or tasty" it was very dry and my DD24 deemed it the worst cake she ever tasted.

Would I order a cake again . DARN RIGHT I would . My 2 yr old gradndaughter LOVED it . It was so cute to look at but not good at all .

They let you get a fancy findant cake for Ohana? :Pinkbounc Oh I will be an ecstatically happy birthday girl if so!

I would really like to order my DD the "Glass Slipper" dessert for a graduation dinner I am surprising her with at CRT. My concern stems from reading previous posts that mention not being able to make a request for dark chocolate instead of white chocolate (kind of a "you get what you get"). My DD will not eat white chocolate so unfortunately if this information is correct, I will not be taking the gamble. We will have to remain slipperless :sad1:

Anyone know for sure if this is true??

TIA

If it makes you feel any better, I've seen the dark chocolate slipper at CRT waaaaay more often than I've seen the white chocolate one. :goodvibes

i don't understand why you can't order a dark chocolate slipper - you're paying for it right.

what if you're allergic to something in the white chocolate? what if you just can't stand it. if you're paying for it and they make both you should be able to say i want this over that

Is there anywhere I can get a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, or is that just impossible? I want to order a holiday cake for our Christmas trip and we'll be dining at The Wave one evening, so I figured I would try there first. TIA!

Somebody on this thread was recently given the option of red velvet for a Contemporary Bakery cake, which I've never seen offered there before, so you may be good to go at the Wave—just call Private Dining at the resort.

Otherwise, the Grand Floridian can do red velvet, but you may have to be assertive about it. Sometimes they are not as accommodating about doing non-standard flavors like the ones they offer for wedding cakes. Also, just to warn you, Disney's red velvet is not that great IMHO. But if all you're after is the Christmas color, you should be OK! :thumbsup2

Thanks...may have to reconsider the red velvet.

Hey, we just ordered our specialty cake for Nov 10th at Cali Grill! :goodvibes It was very easy after having read about some difficult experiences on this thread. I first called the Contemporary front desk and the woman didn't know what I was talking about but eventually transferred me to what she said was room service who gave me the email to the pastry chef, Brian. After emailing him what we were hoping to get, he didn't say no to any of it! We ordered an eight inch chocolate cake with bavarian cream and fresh strawberry filling with palm trees, jungle animals, and a mud hut on top. It's going to be more expensive than we were hoping so I sure hope it's going to be as good as we're hoping! :wizard: I hope to post back with pics.

that sounds great. can't wait to see the photos.
