Do you mind sharing the final cost of the cake and also what size it is?

We're looking at a cake @ GF Cafe for DS for our December trip and your's is similar in style to what I had been thinking of.

Thanks!

I believe the cake was an 8" cake, we had talked about a 10" but I think we stayed at 8, and it was two tiered with chocolate creme filling. The cost was $92.

After spending months looking at all the fabulous cakes-- i broke down and ordered two cakes.

My son got married the week before we left so I ordered one of those small 3 inch wedding cakes to be delivered to Ohanas for us after dinner.
(that cake had to be prepaid- ) i ordered it with sunflowers instead of roses.

When we arrived at the podium I told the hostess about the cake. She marked it on our slip. When we were finished dinner the waiter asked my son about the cake-- who had no idea about it since I wanted it to be a surprise...so i took the waiter aside and explained. He went in the back and came out and said there was nothing there for me. That he will have to send someone over to the grand Floridan to go get it.

Well, we are already 30 minutes done eating---with a 4.5 year old (was not fun) he came out with the cake-- not what I paid for and not what I ordered but took it anyways. (cost was 31.and some change-- but still got a small cake)
-
Then I ordered the choc. slipper to be delivered for Jada and PopPops birthday for our meal at 1900 Park Fare- this too was to be a surprise.

Well imagine my surprise that after we returned to the table from the buffet--there it was sitting in the middle of the table. grrrr.

I wont be buying any more specialty cakes as the desserts they serve will serve the purpose.

i want to order a custom cake for our upcoming early christmas trip to disney. i'd like to have it on one of the first nights we are there. the first night we have dinner at o'hana...the 2nd night at california grill. which restaurant do you think would have the better cake...design and taste? i've had cakes from cali grill and loved them...but never at o'hana. does o'hana have a bakery or do they have their cakes made at grand floridian?

thanks!

We are going to prob. go to Disney to celebrate my birthday and have reservations at Cape May Cafe at the Beach and Yacht Club.

I've read a lot of this thread and sorry if I missed it somewhere but can someone tell me if I can have a personalized cake at this particular restaurant?

I'm wanting either a Tinkerbell or Mickey cake like ones I saw posted under all of the cake URL's.

If someone could answer this for me I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

I called the cake hotline and they ask you about the restaurants as they list them and you press the correct number to get to the one that they said. I wanted to find out about Cape May Cafe and it was on their list so I am working with them to make me a birthday cake. I'd call the cake hotline to find out.

Can a Mickey Mouse Head Shaped Cake be delivered to Fultons Crab House?

Ohana does not have a bakery that can do fancy cakes. If you order one from them you will get a standard supermarket-style layer cake with buttercream frosting. If you want a fancy custom cake, it will be easier to go through Private Dining at the Contemporary to get one for CA Grill than to convince the GF/Poly to help you get one made at GF Bakery and transported over to Ohana.

Now by "personalized" do you mean "Have a name written on it" or "completely custom-decorated fancy fondant-covered cake"? Because any restaurant can write names on the standard cakes they offer.

Cape May can do either kind, but if you want a fancy fondant-covered one be sure you get in touch with Private Dining at the Yacht/ Beach Club and make your request known. If you just ask at the podium or call the Cake Hotline you're liable to get a standard supermarket-style cake frosted in buttercream.

Yay! Thanks for posting these! I'm so glad to see everything turned out exactly as you'd hoped!

Do they have small cakes you can just buy that are not personalized? Like in a resort food court of bakery? Or even in the parks??

My son loves cake. Took him to a wedding this weekend and that's all he talked about. He could hardly wait for them to cut it. Oh to be 4 and be excited over cake. Ok, I'm 29 and cake makes me excited too!

After following the cake threads for months and debating on what kind of cake I wanted I contacted Pat at the Grand Floridian for the cake for my DD 4th birthday meal at 1900 Park Fair. Being that is was 9 months ago I found what I wrote about it on my PTR...

Well I did it... I ORDERED THE CAKE!!!!!

I called GF private dining and then they connected me with Pat from the GF cake department. I tried to convey what I was looking for but it wasn't working. I think the fact that I'm a guy that didn't exactly know what I was looking for came into play but she really didn't give me many different ideas. I ended up ordering an 8'' chocolate cake, white chocolate mousse filling, & pink buttercream frosting. I told her I wanted to incorporate Cinderella into the cake some how and I didn't want the thin standing up picture. She told me it wasn't a cookie... it was actually made of white chocolate. Hummm. Anyways she mentioned there could be a solid Cinderella put on there. I opted to go with that. The only downside with having the solid Cinderella is that they will not be able to write happy birthday on the cake.. I guess the writing will be on the plate or platter.:confused3:confused3

She kept on suggesting I go with ganache for my frosting but I didn't really know what that was. Plus then it will be a brown cake. I googled ganache and it does sound good-

Ganache-This fancy term is simply chocolate melted with heavy cream. This frosting makes a beautiful shiny glaze on cakes and cookies. If you chill a ganache, beat it until it's fluffy and stiff, then form it into balls, you'll end up with truffles. You can also chill and beat a ganache and use the fluffy result to quickly frost a layer cake.

I do have time to call her back and make any changes. What do you think? Do I need to make any changes? I guess I could have ganache with pink frosting but why would she keep suggesting it? Are they trying to push a certain kind of cake there??? Are certain type 'massed' produced?

The total of the cake came out to $62 +tax&tip which isn't horrible. I just hope I'm going the right thing. I'll take any and all opinions! :goodvibes

Here is what we got:

When the cake came out I was so happy! My daughters eyes lit up and my DW was so shocked that I ordered a cake! I thought it was a beautiful cake, but the problem wasn't with the looks. I was pretty disappointed with the taste of the cake. The frosting tasted like shortening, and the cake itself didn't taste like chocolate. It had a funky taste to it. While everyone did have a piece of cake, I didn't enjoy it like I thought I would.

I would try again for a cake but I think I would try a different bakery.

Can you get a cool cake at Old Key West? I am wanting something Christmasy. I can pick it up at Olivia's since I know they don't have room service but can you even get something half way decent there? If not where would my other options be? I want it to be a surprise for the kids on the day we get there so I don't want to travel all over the "World" to get it.

TIA

You cannot just pick up a cake at a restaurant. You have to actually dine there. You can pick one up at the Boardwalk Bakery.

I called the hotline - the prompter did not say anything about any of the restaurants in DTD but did say something about delivering to POP. Would I be able to order the Mickey Mouse shaped head cake and have it delivered to POP? There just seems to be so much uncertainty .. I really appreciate all your help. Thanks!

So ... I finally have something to contribute to this thread!! It helped me so much when planning my cake that I just had to post pictures of the fantastic end result!!!

I emailed the CR about 3 months ago and requested a Mad Hatter style cake with Thumper and Miss Bunny on top. I asked for it to be Red Velvet with cream cheese frosting. It was exactly what I got!! It cost $125 plus tax. I am going to be honest - I didn't tip! Although the cake was amazing when we arrived at Chef Mickey we were shown to our table and then our server eventually came and took our order for drinks and explan the buffet. After about 10 minutes he then just put the cake on the table! No Happy Birthday or anything. He said I haven't put candles on it because I wasn't sure if you wanted them?? Err its a birthday cake, you could have perhaps asked me on the quiet?? He made no attempt to start up the "Happy Birthday song". So as much as I loved the cake the experience could have been so much nicer!

It did not however detract fromt he delicious cake so here are pictures of the outside and the inside.

Enjoy!!!

The only sad thing about our cake was that we safely got it back to our room at the GF. It didn't fit in the fridge so I left it in its box on the desk. The next morning after we had popped out we came back and had a slice but then when we came back at about 5pm the cake was totally ruined. It must have sort of split in the coolness of the air conditioning and caved in - it was a sad end to the beautiful cake but was still edible!!
Such a beautiful cake!!!

This cake was made at the yacht club bakery and given to us at Cape May dinner on 8/15/10 for my sons birthday. 10 inch cake $125.

The cake tasted really great.

This is an awesome cake!!! The food network challenges have NOTHING on some of these cakes. One thing is for sure.....Disney doesn't give them away.;)
