Yes, this should still be an option — we asked last year and were told they just needed time to defrost it. Alternatively, you could go to the podium of any table-service restaurant at the MK and see if they'd sell you one to take away. :thumbsup2

alrighty, so I've got some time to think about what kind of custom cake to get - we'll be going Dec '12 - and I'm trying to soak up as much info as i can lol

We'll be staying at WL so does that mean we'll be able to have the Contemporary make it and have it delivered to our room?

So you can get buttercream frosting, fondant or ganache? We'd like buttercream frosting but I don't want it to look like something I could get at the grocery store. Never had fondant before... how is it? Does it have to be fondant in order for it to look like the fancy cakes on tv?lol

any help or input would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Yes, it has to be fondant to look like the fancy cakes on TV. However, it will have buttercream underneath the fondant; most people don't even eat the fondant, they just peel it off.

Right now, the only way to get a fancy cake at WL is through the Contemporary, but who knows? Maybe by Dec 2012 the WL bakery will have stepped up its game. :thumbsup2

Well I called about the cakes today. This is what I was told...
2) Yacht club - Captains Grille
No customization available unless I order a 10 in cake. I can get a fresh 6 inch or 8 inch cake that is all chocolate or all vanilla with generic decorating. The cost will be about $30 for 6 inch and about $43 for 8 inch.

So cake experts...does the Yacht club info sound correct? I thought I might have more options for customizing a cake at a smaller size. What is a better deal/situation?
Thanks for the help!
Debbie

I'm getting a cake on Monday and was told the same thing - smallest they would "customize" is the 10". I'm glad to see you got a solution! :goodvibes

Here's some pictures of our cake from earlier this month; ordered thru GF Bakery for 1900 Park Fare dinner - 6" yellow cake with custard and strawberries, fondant, and white chocolate Tink topper - cost $75.

Overall I was pleased, especially being able to customize a 6" cake since there were only 3 of us. The birthday girl was very happy, so I guess that's all that really matters. Pat was so pleasant to deal with and I thought the price was very fair compared to some others I've seen. Everything on the cake was edible, even the little stamens in the flowers.

Oh, quirty30! They did such a wonderful job on your beautiful DD's birthday cake! I love it! :lovestruc
And she looks so happy!!!

I am sooo confused about where to order cakes from. We are staying the the WL but are eating at the yachtsman for hubby's 40th birthday. I prefer to have the cake at the WL, hate draging a cake in the car and back to the resort. Does the WL do custom cakes? If not is my only option at the Yachtsman? I would love to have a cake by Cakemanbri...but does he just do cakes at the CR? Can some one enlighten me????

Quirty30, did you bring your candle or did they provide it? The cake was beautiful!

I've ordered 3 birthday cakes at Disney and never had to provide my own candle...and I've always been pleased with the cakes, although they are quite expensive (and the recipients have always responded with a great big smile - can't really put a pricetag on that!!!!)

OK cake ? here....we will be celebrating our anniversary on our trip and staying at BC I called CL desk and they said they will have one delivered to our room. I requested a white cake, choc mousse filling with rasberry sauce (that was our wedding cake DH never got to finish before they removed it). With doves of some sort on cake.

OK so here's my wonder....should I have one instead from a restaurant we will be dining at Narcoosees for dinner or will the one at BC be good?

Do the 6 in cake have the screen printing on it? There are only 2 of us.

The 6-inch cakes that you don't have to pre-order (the ones you ask for at the podium) have a white chocolate disk with an image of Mickey on it. If you want a custom screen print, you'll have to order a custom cake, and I've never seen them do one on anything smaller than an 8-inch. :thumbsup2

The Yacht & Beach Club bakery can do cakes on a par with those at the Grand Floridian. You don't see as many on this thread, but they have the facility. :thumbsup2

Getting ready to do my first custom cake order. Now can I have it delivered to the room or do you think it would be better to have it at Jiko? DH and I are celebrating our anniversary. I would really like to get him some kind of a cake centered around a jungle cruise theme. Would that even be possible?

BC should be good!!! For our 1st Anniversary, I had the OKW's Olivia's duplicate the top of our Wedding Cake. I emailed a picture when I ordered it. Since we got married at the Wedding Pavilion and then stayed in WDW for Honeymoon, we didn't take the cake home, but instead ate it for breakfast each day. We did the same for anniversary.

:confused3We are staying at the Poly for my husbands birthday and I want to get him a cake for his birthday. I like the chocolate mickey head cake, but it isn't really personal. I think he would like it though because it is soooo chocolaty!! I have considered calling and requesting a small custom cake with about a $65-$75 price limit. Thoughts????

Check out the Cake Chatter thread. The first page has a link with the photos. Then from there it talks about all the options, where to call, etc.
Good Luck!

Guess they moved you here!! At least you found where I was pointing you!

I ordered a cake for my dh's 45th birthday last year at the CSR. It was delivered to our room with plates, napkins and forks. The cake was nothing extravagant, but looked very pretty. I think the final cost with delivery to our room and extra for chocolate dipped strawberries was $36. It was an 8 inch chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling. The cake itself was just ok, we've had much better. But the look on dh's face when we got back to the room and he saw it, priceless.

Dani&TJsMom,

your husbands cake is sooo pretty! You were able to get that at CSR? Seems like a more reasonable price too, than a lot of other ones. Very cool!:goodvibes

I hope to have lots of pictures to share and a report after tomorrow's surprise!! :goodvibes I'm starting to get VERY excited about our "Star Wars" theme cake from the Beach Club! :thumbsup2

I've waded through pages and pages of cake pictures and info until my head hurts :crazy2:

There are so many lovely ones that it's hard to make a decision but I've decided I'd want to order a cake like this one for DD's birthday dinner at WCC

Could anyone tell me if this is a standard cake or a custom one and roughly what the cost might be?

Thanks

Actually that was my cake and I posted that pic. I ordered that at the GF for our dinner at Narcoossee's last July. I asked if I could get that color and it was not a problem. That cake cost $30.00 and it was really good even though we only had a bite. We took it back to the room and ended up throwing the rest away bc we simply forgot about it. That was my third time ordering from the GF Bakery and it tasted the best (smaller and cheaper). Hope this helps. :thumbsup2
