Anyone ever get a custom cake from Boardwalk Bakery and have it delivered to Big River Grille? Is this even possible?
Debbie

Third and final post... I just made a reservation at Captain's Grill for lunch on 7/4. So, do I have the option of ordering a cake from the Boardwalk bakery and having it delivered there for our meal? If not, there were reservations open at Grand Floridian Cafe - if the custom cake options are better...

Advice, suggestions??
Debbie

We are knee deep in planning mode for our Nov. 28 trip and I plan to have a cake made for my son's first birthday. I am going to attempt to get it delivered to Whispering Canyon but here is my problem. I have too many possibilities of what I want to put on it. I would like for it to combine a character or two and something Christmas related since we are going to see the decorations. Any ideas or thoughts?

So far I have thought of :

Mickey and Minnie decorating a Christmas tree
Chip and Dale decorating a tree (or maybe Donald Duck?) since I hope to have it delivered to WCC
101 Dalmatians because who doesn't love a puppy

Thanks for any input!

The Yacht & Beach Club has its own bakery—no need to order from BoardWalk Bakery AND you have a better chance of getting a really fancy cake, if that's what you want. So just call the Yacht Club and ask to be transferred to Private Dining.

Does the contemporary bakery do cakes for the restaurants at the Wilderness Lodge?

I've seen one or two. :thumbsup2

Thank you for the info. about Captain's Grille.
I had another thought - ordering a Mickey Head cake to be delivered to our room at WL. I contacted IPO last night and they emailed me this morning that it was possible to get the cake. What is the typical price of Mickey Head cake? Do you have options of cake flavor and filling? How about the way they decorate it - are there options?
Thank you!!

Check post #581. That's the one we just got at Chef Mickey's for $48. The only options were vanilla, chocolate, and the personalization, I believe. But it was DELICIOUS.

I think chip and dale decerating a tree would be amazing! I think like a bunch of christmas lights decorations would look good, you could ask for a Osborne Family of lights theme. Something bright and Christmasy!!

Can't wait to see pics of your cake! Hope it's great!! :goodvibes

I'm re-considering getting another cake made for our Sept trip.

Last year, I had CakeManBri create a Tower of Terror Bellhop Hat that I was so excited for, I could barely keep it a secret

Do you folks have any ideas? Maybe Everest related? Maybe a big piece of Yeti dung like in the museum? :lmao:

:lmao:

I have no ideas, but I remember your cake from last year and it ROCKED!:thumbsup2
There is NO DOUBT that you're going to think up another awesome idea for another great cake! ::yes::
Please keep us posted.

Well I called about the cakes today. This is what I was told...
1) WL said I could have a Mickey head cake delivered to our room. I had a choice of van or choc cake, no filling, covered in chocolate ganache with white chocolate face and chocolate crunchies on the outside. It will cost $48 plus tax, 18% gratuity and $3 trip fee.
OR option #2
2) Yacht club - Captains Grille
No customization available unless I order a 10 in cake. I can get a fresh 6 inch or 8 inch cake that is all chocolate or all vanilla with generic decorating. The cost will be about $30 for 6 inch and about $43 for 8 inch.

So cake experts...does the Yacht club info sound correct? I thought I might have more options for customizing a cake at a smaller size. What is a better deal/situation?
Thanks for the help!
Debbie

I've waded through pages and pages of cake pictures and info until my head hurts :crazy2:

There are so many lovely ones that it's hard to make a decision but I've decided I'd want to order a cake like this one for DD's birthday dinner at WCC

Could anyone tell me if this is a standard cake or a custom one and roughly what the cost might be?

Thanks

I can't answer your Yacht Club question, but the Mickey Head cake was DELICIOUS. See post#581 above for a picture of ours. I wish I had some RIGHT NOW.

Who me? Mine was the standard chocolate/chocolate combination, but it was very mousse-y inside. I didn't order anything special. I should have taken a picture of it sliced. Alas, all I have is my 15 mo old DS covered in it, LOL!

I hope ours is as delish as yours was...I decided to go with the Mickey Head cake delivered to our room at WL. I like the idea of enjoying it in our room on our first day. I ordered it with the chocolate cake too. Even though I really wanted to order the vanilla since the chocolate ganache is probably very rich. But the cake is for DS (8) and he is a chocolate freak. I am having them write on the plate - Way to go Karate Kid! Our son will have just competed at the AAU Tae Kwon Do Nationals! :woohoo: I am so ready for this trip!

Every bakery seems to have a different rule about the smallest size cake you can customize. Right now, only the Grand Floridian is letting you customize a 6-inch cake. At the Contemporary, it's 8 inches. I dunno why the Yacht & Beach won't do it on anything smaller than a 10-inch cake....

ETA: Looks like you found a solution!

How did you get a mickey head cake with filling?

All the Mickey Head cakes have layers of filling in between the cake—I think when the PP was quoted "no filling" the cast member meant you can't pick a special filling.

To get that cake you would need to ask for a two-tier mini cake. They run about $30 at the Grand Floridian. Wilderness Lodge's bakery may not be set up to make them, though—they seem to only offer basic round cakes. Most people who want something fancier at a WL restaurant have to work with the pastry chef at the Contemporary (through Contemporary Private Dining), although I have heard of WL Private Dining making the arrangements with the Contemporary too. You'd need to call and see what your options are. :thumbsup2

Here's some pictures of our cake from earlier this month; ordered thru GF Bakery for 1900 Park Fare dinner - 6" yellow cake with custard and strawberries, fondant, and white chocolate Tink topper - cost $75.

Overall I was pleased, especially being able to customize a 6" cake since there were only 3 of us. The birthday girl was very happy, so I guess that's all that really matters. Pat was so pleasant to deal with and I thought the price was very fair compared to some others I've seen. Everything on the cake was edible, even the little stamens in the flowers.

Thanks for that, I'll post back with how I get on and a picture of the cake when we eventually get it :goodvibes

Does anyoen know if you can still get a small Mickey cake at Main Street bakery? In 2006 I went there and ordered one for my ds's bday and picked it up later on before we left the park. It was just a small vanilla cake with a mickey picture on the top. I just need something small and inexpensive for my 3 y.o. when we go in 3 weeks.
