Ok, I'm trying to price out this cake but I don't know who to call!!! I know that Contemporary will deliver cakes to CRT but they don't give me an option for CRT on the cake line. How do I talk to someone over there? What are the standard cakes at CRT in case I can't get in touch with Contemporary. HELP!

Am I correct in assuming that the 3D character toppers that you see on the cakes are pretty standard ones (eg Mickey, Tink, etc) and that they couldn't do a custom one. A less popular character would be done in an edible image on white chocolate?

Exactly. :thumbsup2

There are a couple of Up-inspired cakes on Flickr.com:

Call the Contemporary Resort at (407) 824-1000 and ask to speak to someone in Private Dining about a custom cake.

Standard theme parks cakes are chocolate with chocolate frosting or vanilla with vanilla frosting, 6 or 8 or 10 inches in diameter.

We had a custom cake at CRT in September that was done by the bakery at the Contemporary. I delt with Brian and he was amazing. We mostly communicated via email and he created the most amazing cake! It was a white cake with vanilla buttercream icing (chocolate alergies in the group otherwise I would have prefered something else...but for vanilla it was VERY good) I sent Brian some ideas that I had for the cake via email before our trip and then when we arrived I had the consierge at our hotel send him some Princess figurines which he incorporated into the cake design. The cake was a 10 inch cake and the cost was only $45 plus tax and gratuity, in all I think the total was around $59. This cake was huge though!!! There were seven of us in our party and we only ate less than 1/3 of the cake...they were willing to box it up and let us take the remainder back to the hotel but we decided to share with the families around us instead. The girls had a great time delivering their birthday cake to the tables around us!

I will attempt to post a picture of this cake for everyone to see...also, if you would like Brian's email address and phone number or any other details please feel free to PM me.

This is a cake that I received on my most recent trip. It was created by the GF bakery. It was a vanilla cake with custard and strawberry filling and buttercream icing. Because it was a surprise I don't know how much it costs. The only thing I know about the cost is that the strawberries were an additional charge of $5  I thought that was funny! This is my first time posting pictures so I hope this works. Sorry the lighting wasn't great so the fondant looks almost orange in some of the pictures, but it's really red.

That is almost exactly what I'm wanting!!! I'm PMing you!

Allonte...... what I did with Brian was send him a picture of the cake I wanted (it was the haunted mansion cake) he recreated it wonderfully. I would send him the picture, he always does a great job.

I really did try and read through all the posts for answers to my questions, but there is such an abundance of information

We are doing all 3 kids birthdays at once at disney, I some amazing cakes on this site, I love the fondant ones.. of the pirate cake and things of that nature, I know i need to call the cake hot line, we have not decided where we want to do the cake yet, we have the Deluxe dining and have booked lots of places, can they delivery to any of those places??? and if I send a picture from this site to the emails you all have mentioned can they close to match the cake???? Thank you so much for your time and your replies, I really appreciate it!!!:flower3::flower3::flower3:

That's odd... I just ordered one for our trip next week and was given the choice of white or dark (milk wasn't an option) and was quoted $12.50 plus tax and gratuity. I ordered through the CRT special events e-mail address. Very quick and eay BTW. :thumbsup2

They offered milk chocolate to me; maybe my cost was more because I went our last day of our trip which was our CRT meal - fell on the holiday christmas season and prices were much higher.

I noticed someone had a photo of a really cute chocolate photo frame that had an edible image of the Boardwalk. They received it as a gift from concierge but does anyone know if that's available for purchase?? If you've purchased it would you share how much?

How long did you wait to hear from Brian? I don't want to seem impatient but we go in 2 weeks and I haven't heard anything.

Whoohooo!! I just got off the phone with the contemporary bakery and Brian will be making DD's Iridessa cake! I'm so excited.

Hi everyone! I just joined and this Is my first post, so I apologize if I am not handling this properly! I am taking my nephew to Disney in mid February, and he loves little einsteins. We are staying at the contemporary and going to chef mickeys for his birthday dinner. Does anyone know if I can get a custom cake with Einstein characters on it? I haven't see any other cakes like that. Thank you so much for your help!

We just got back. Here's our cake. It was a 10-inch round with white cake, chocolate mousse filling, vanilla buttercream, and fondant. The price was $100 + tax for a total of $106.50. I was very pleased with how it turned out. I picked it up from the BW Bakery, as we were staying offsite.

...at least I hope! I am so bad at posting photos. I always resize them too small and then it seems to be stuck that size. Anyway, here is another one. Again, very pleased with the cake!

It depends. Every restaurant can get you a cake of some variety, but your best bet for a fancy cake is a restaurant at one of the monorail resorts, the Epcot-area Deluxes or (sometimes) Animal Kingdom Lodge. Also, you can get a fancy cake made by the Contemporary delivered to the Magic Kingdom. These are also the bakeries that do the best at matching to pictures.

You can reach these bakeries through the Cake Hotline's numerous voicemail prompts, but sometimes it's easier just to call the resort you want and ask to speak to Private Dining.

If you're staying at the BoardWalk Inn, you can order it from Private Dining for $35 + tax (comes in an arrangement with chocolate truffles—they said they can't sell it separately). I would imagine you could get it delivered to one of BoardWalk Inn's restaurants too.

How long did you wait to hear from Brian? I don't want to seem impatient but we go in 2 weeks and I haven't heard anything.

I'd try calling back.

Hi everyone! I just joined and this Is my first post, so I apologize if I am not handling this properly! I am taking my autistic nephew to Disney in mid February, and he loves little einsteins. We are staying at the contemporary and going to chef mickeys for his birthday dinner. Does anyone know if I can get a custom cake with Einstein characters on it? I haven't see any other cakes like that. Thank you so much for your help!

I feel like I read somewhere in this thread that Little Einsteins is one of the things they can't do, but your best is to get the info straight from the source by calling the Contemporary and asking to be transferred to Private Dining.
:thumbsup2

I'm a bit late but finally making it back to report on our cake that was delivered to Whispering Canyon from the Contemporary's bakery on 11/11/10.

Here's what I learned: do NOT approach ordering a cake the way you would any other piece of art by allowing the artist creative freedom. I've always subscribed to the belief that a true artist who is given creative freedom will produce their best work. Not so with cakes, I suppose. :confused3 I ordered a chocolate cake with buttercream frosting/filling with Steamboat Willie for the theme for my 13 yro's belated birthday. Fondant was okay as long as there was a good buttercream coat underneath. I didn't request a specific budget when ordering. I was willing to pay a heckuva lot more than the $65 I was quoted. Anywhoo, here's what we got:

I was a tad disappointed after seeing so many amazing, creative cakes come from the Contemporary's bakery. I can't really complain, tho, considering I wasn't specific down to every minute detail. That was my mistake. I thought I was being nice by not being a nit-picker. :lmao: Was it $65 worth? The cake wasn't but my son's excitement at seeing his favorite SBW image on a cake was. The cake just seemed like a bunch of elements tossed onto a cake. There's no real thought or design, no cohesion with the decorative elements. I've certainly made much better creative themed cakes. LOL! As for the cake taste/flavor...hhmmmm...it was moist. The cake part tasted okay. The frosting...not sure what that was...it was somewhat sweet so it wasn't that whipped icky stuff but there wasn't much buttery flavor so I wouldn't call that buttercream. I think I'm spoiled to true buttercream (I make my own whenever I bake cakes).

Sooooo, lesson learned: be specific and be the annoying nit-picker on the details. Do NOT do the creative freedom thing. Would I do it again? Probably not. Just on taste alone, I can do waaaay better with a couple boxes of Betty Crocker & my buttercream recipe for less than $10. :thumbsup2

Sweetpea, I am so sorry for your not so good experience. I think the cakes are expensive but I felt I paid for the reaction more then the cake itself. Giving my husband a Haunted Mansion cake was so great. I plan to do something for my son this August. I will have the cake earlier in our trip so we could eat more of it. Maybe your lesson learned is to be a bit more particular and put a cap on the expense.

Great advice—this makes me feel a lot better about the way I've annoyingly nit-picked the details on all the Disney cakes I've ordered. :rotfl: I'm sorry you had a crummy experience, though. :flower3:

Anna113, what you said is very true. Brian felt super-special which is where the money spent became worth while. We had our cake on arrival night. It wasn't tasty enough to tempt me into eating any of the leftovers and I'm a crazed sweet-tooth cake freak. Seriously. I crave the stuff all the time. The boys may have eaten 1 more piece in the following 4 days. Halfway thru the trip it was apparent it wasn't going to get eaten so I threw about half the cake away. Looking back, I should've managed my time better & made him a cake myself before we went on vacation. Nothing ever beats a Mom cake. Well, maybe a cake from my sis-in-law who taught me everything I know about cake decoration. :cutie:

Lurkyloo, you should definitely feel good about your detail specifics! No harm done with the crumby experience. Lessons were learned so it's not in vain. Next time I'll go splurge on an extra No Way Jose & save the cakes for where I know they're TDF. I'm definitely jaded now with professionally decorated cakes. I'm 2 for 2. Hubby ordered me a mind-blowing themed cake for my bday from a local bakery a few years ago, spent like $200 on the thing, and it tasted horrible. Dry, no flavor to the cake, & the icing/fondant was what I'd imagine plaster to taste like. Ick! Then this. Thank God my sis-in-law can make awesome cakes. She made our wedding cake & baby shower cake way back when. Both tasted and looked amazing. I always wondered if Ace of Cakes, Cake Boss, Food Network Challenge, Cupcake Wars, etc. cakes had good flavor. I wonder no more. :upsidedow
