Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part IV! (2012-2016)

I thought I'd post a picture of the cake we had for my son's birthday during out trip the other week. It wasn't anything super fancy, but we had ordered a vanilla cake, chocolate frosting inside, white icing and a Buzz Lightyear screen print. That's what we got! It was super cute. But huge - for real - we gave half to friends of ours, my husband and son had some for breakfast and we still threw 1/4 of it away. Lesson learned :) It wasn't an amazing tasting cake, but it was definitely good! And my son absolutely loved it! I just realized in this picture it looks very lopsided! That is definitely a photographer issue (me), because it was perfectly round.

I would love some suggestions from the experts here for a cake for my daughters' 16th birthday. When she was little, Peter Pan was her imaginary friend. So my husband and I were thinking something with Peter Pan but there can be other characters too. Or maybe just something really pretty and girly if Peter doesn't work out. I really do not like the screen printing look. I would be willing to pay extra for the fondant, but also don't want to go crazy. There are only 4 of us so I was thinking probably a 6 in cake. I think maybe the mini cake would be too small. I looked in the thread with the pictures and I really didn't see much in the way of Peter Pan.
I am also not sure where we will have the cake since I have been unable to get the dinner reservation I want. I am checking everyday, several times a day though. Most likely will be at Contemporary or Polynesian. What are the differences between ordering from these 2? I have seen many good reviews of Contemporary cakes but haven't seen anything about Poly cakes-good or bad. Any help would be appreciated! While we have been to Disney many times, we have never ordered a cake before.

TIA!!

Can I have a cake delivered to my room at the BCV? Also do they have pictures of cakes that are Halloween themed? I would like to get a Halloween themed cake delivered to my room

I also ordered 2 cupcakes through Pat and I picked those up at the Gasparilla Grill as well during our stay.

Thank you both for posting about your experiences! :goodvibes

Fancy cakes for the Poly are made by the Grand Floridian, so all those reviews apply. I have found it harder to order a custom cake and more expensive when ordering from the Grand Floridian. We stayed at the GF on our last trip but ordered our cake for dinner at the Contemporary.

As to cake design ideas, it always helps to Google or search Pinterest for "cake" + whatever theme you're after (like Peter Pan). Disney makes a Peter Pan white chocolate figure that you can have atop larger cakes or next to smaller ones. I think a blue cake with silhouettes of the rooftops of London around the sides might be cute.

Can I have a cake delivered to my room at the BCV?

Yes. The number is in Post#2 of this thread.

Disney offers no inspirational photos for any but its most basic cakes... I suggest Googling for inspiration.

I have googled my tiny, little brain out but still can't find the answer to this: is the light up white chocolate castle only available at GF?

Still not heard back from the e mail I sent to contemporary on Friday morning - is this normal or should I e mail again? :-(

If anybody else can get it, it would be the Contemporary. Where are you staying/dining?

I would! Or even maybe call, just cuz I'm anxious like that... :lmao:

OK, I've got another fabulous cake from Chef Brian & Co. at the Contemporary for you!

My husband is a huge Muppets fan, and Fozzie Bear is his favorite. I inquired about doing a cake with Fozzie's face on it, kinda like this Animal cake, but they are only allowed to do screen prints of the characters, and the only image they are authorized to use that has Fozzie in it is a group shot. So instead I asked for an "interpretive" version of Fozzie covered in his fur, wrapped in his polka dot tie and topped with his pork pie hat.

I was a little worried when the Private Dining cast member who took my order kept referring to "Ozzie Bear" (who doesn't know the Muppets???), but all the details were in my emails to Chef Brian. I didn't send any inspiration photos besides this nice shot of the Fozzie puppet and a pic of a cake with a fondant hat on it.

Price: $106

Size:
8-inch

Date Received: 9/26/14

Location: California Grill

Flavors: Chocolate cake with a filling of layered chocolate ganache and peanut butter buttercream frosting (NOT mousse). I was trying to replicate the taste of BoardWalk Bakery's late, lamented chocolate-peanut butter cake slice, and it worked!

The cake turned out EXACTLY as I'd pictured it, with amazingly accurate buttercream fur in exactly the right shade. The moment he spotted it, my husband exclaimed, "Fozzie!" and his face lit up like a kid's. Priceless!

Even better, this cake tasted fantastic! I have officially found my all-time favorite Disney cake flavor combo. The fudgey chocolate ganache made all the difference, and the buttercream "fur" all over the cake didn't hurt!

Staying at BLT and BCV. Eating, oh, everywhere including both those resorts (CR and YC, at least) plus BW and GF, LOL. The problem is that my DH would be ordering my birthday cake and he is DONE with Pat after two bad experiences in a row. I gave him some ideas - Haunted Mansion at CR being my favorite idea - but we don't need a large cake and I thought the light up castle on a 6-inch with, maybe a kind of Xmas, sugared effect on the cake with snowflakes might be fun. I don't want to send the poor cake-scarred man on a wild goose chase though so I guess I will do it myself. It is ok to start communication via the CR email posted?

Certainly! But I don't think he'll have too much trouble dealing with CR on his own. There's just sometimes a delay in response to emails. :)

So do I email chef bryan or call private dining for a cake that will be delivered to chef mickeys? Is there a way to just email him directly? Sorry...I'm a tad confused on the order of things. Thanks!

I ordered my own bday cake too. My husband had no idea/interest in figuring out what to do! Lol

We have often been at WDW for either our anniversary or my birthday and my DH has been game...with varying degrees of success. Seems like that is a common cake complaint though, a total lack of consistency in pricing and quality. :/

Speaking of quality though, lurkyloo, the Fozzie cake is stupendous! And peanut butter buttercream would be my ideal filling!

Thanks,

I just e mailed them again - if I don't hear anything by the end of the week I will have to arrange to sneak off somewhere and ring them.

Yes, you can email the pastry chefs at the address listed in Post #2. Once you work out the nitty gritty details of your order with them, you call Private Dining to actually place the order.

Hopefully some of that will change if they really do get this cake-ordering website off the ground. According to a GF pastry chef I spoke to, they are targeting next year. I just hope pastry chefs are more reliable than bus drivers! :rotfl:

Love the interpretation! Looks awesome and delicious.
