Do you have to be in the room when your cake is delivered, specifically at the Polynesian? Because my sister, who the cake is for, probably won't be. And anyone know if delivery/tip is included in the price quoted from the Grand Floridian. I forgot to ask these questions when I ordered the other day.

She just has to be checked in. And if she does online check-in, it might get to the room before she does! In my experience, they usually quote just the cake price.

Okay, so here it is! DD's 3rd birthday cake from Jiko. The ordering process was not too bad although there was a bit of a language barrier with the lady at AK private dining. She had a heavy Spanish accent and spoke broken English so there was a bit of confusion the couple of times I talked to her. And she kept sending me email confirmations for other people's cakes. A little scary! A couple of days out I emailed her to confirm the cake and she said all set and told me the details of the cake which were correct, so I just crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.

I wanted a white fondant cake with gold Mickey or Minnie stamps on the side and gumpaste flowers on top surrounding a white chocolate Minnie. I asked for all dark red flowers but they said they could only do multi-color as that's what they usually had on hand. I requested chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream under the fondant. Total cost was $126 (about half of the cost was the Minnie Mouse with gold paint accents).

When we got to the restaurant the waiter couldn't locate the cake so that freaked me out. He had his manager go "look into it" and about 30 minutes later they said they had it in the back. Crisis averted.

The cake came out very pretty and it tasted good - the chocolate was a dark chocolate kind of like devil's food and very moist almost like a pudding cake. The buttercream was white buttercream instead of chocolate but no biggie I guess. DD was thrilled to get her Minnie birthday cake. You can see her giving Minnie a smooch.

There were 6 adults and my little girl and we ate only about 1/4 of this cake. It was an 8" cake. I knew we'd have leftovers but they couldn't do a smaller cake - this was the smallest. The waiter boxed up the cake and also put MInnie in a separate smaller box. She made it home with us and seems to be in good shape, although DD keeps threatening to eat her. I plan to put her in a glass dome and see how long she'll last.

Thanks for posting a detailed account of your experience. According to the woman who makes Disney's white chocolate castles, keeping your Minnie under that dome in a room temperature environment, away from fluctuations in heat and cold, is the best way to preserve it. :thumbsup2

I'm posting this a little late, but I recently ordered a cake for my moms birthday. This was my second time ordering a cake from the Contemporary and it came out amazing! My moms favorite character is Animal from the Muppets so I ordered a cake that would look like him. The cake had cost ~$136 for an 8" marble cake with dark chocolate mousse with fresh raspberries for filling and chocolate buttercream frosting. She absolutely loved the cake :-)

Wow that looks amazing!! I ordered a Rowlf cake from the Contemporary for December 9th, I hope it looks as nice as this!

We're back from our trip 10/30-11/8 and we had a cake delivered to the California grill, worked with Chef Brian.

The photo color is off, I could not get a photo with better lighting! I added the millennium falcon keychain (removed the chain) but the color was a navy blue not black.

Love the cake!! I've been looking through the thread for a good star wars cake to surprise my dad with for his birthday while at WDW, and yours is a lot like what we've been wanting!!

I want to order a custom cake for my son's birthday. We will celebrating at the Rose and Crown in Epcot. Do I call Epcot, the Yacht and Beach Club or the Cake Ordering Hotline? I want a Wall-E design cake and preferably to be lemon flavored.

How far in advance do you all recommend calling to reconfirm an order? I have an order in to the Contemporary pastry team that I made about 2 weeks ago for our December 5th arrival. Should I call to confirm at some point or shoot them an email? Or do I just wing it lol?

Has anyone ordered or seen a Jungle Book themed cake? This is DH's favorite childhood movie and was hoping to get one to surprise him for our first trip to WDW in January

Call the number in the second post for Epcot. They make fancy cakes now.

I usually call Private Dining 2 or 3 days before to reconfirm, cuz that's when they're actually starting to make the cake.

I haven't, but I did a cake with a jungle-y theme at Animal Kingdom Lodge last year:

Thanks for the quick answer! I have read so many cake posts I was even getting confused what year it was! But on the other hand was throughly enjoying it.

So disappointed -- DD chose Chefs de France for her 21st birthday celebration, and we did not realize that the cake choices would be so limited and blah. I guess I am just venting. I've seen so many pretty cakes in this thread, and now we are stuck with blah. :(

EDIT: nevermind, after reading the thread further I am ordering a cake from the Swan and will bring it to Chefs De France with us. They can't do characters, but I asked for something princessy and pink and sparkly, in the flavor combo that DD wanted, so hopefully it will be pretty. princess:

I'm sure it's been asked but can't find it, when they delivery your cake do they include a knife/server for cutting or just a plastic knife maybe? What about plates/forks? Grand bakery delivered to Poly. Thank you

I plan to order a cake from Contemporary Bakery next week for my upcoming December trip. It's a surprise for my husband for our 1 year anniversary while dining at California Grill. When ordering, if I tell them it's a surprise, will they KEEP it a surprise while checking in for our reservation? I've been reading some horror stories. If anyone is gonna ruin a surprise, I'd rather it be me.

In your case it will be delivered by private dining, so it will come with real silverware (fork, knife, spoon). But I've never gotten an actual cake server or cake knife.

Just be sure to stand between him and the podium so he can't see them stamp your ticket with the cake stamp.

I ordered a cake to California Grill last October for my anniversary also as a surprise for my husband. I asked the girl taking the order to note it was a surprise and when checking in I stopped at the first person at the desk so DH was off to the side bit. I checked us in and he never noticed the cake stamp and the staff never mentioned it. Our waiter also never said a word. He just brought it out with our desserts (we were on the dining plan). It was a great surprise for him and a great moment.

I hope they keep it a surprise for you!

Thank you both! I usually check us in since I'm the one that makes the reservations. Hopefully he won't be all nosy while checking in

The cake is finally ordered! I called the cake line 3 times before I finally got a call back. Of course, the gentleman who called did so while I did not have my phone near me. Left another message last night and got a cake order form e-mailed to me. I put in everything and got a response that everything was all set. Just a couple more weeks to go!

I just ordered a cake from AKL.
I ended up ordering a red velvet cake with cream cheeses filling & white buttercream icing.
It is to be a safari theme cake with safari mickey & minnie on a 3D type stand up photo.
I asked for it to be delivered to the room during the afternoon.
I was told I needed to call private dining to get them to deliver it as I had to be in the room to accept the delivery. I've never ordered a cake before so I was wondering if that is correct.

You do not need to be in the room. I assume you spoke to a pastry chef? Because generally it's Private Dining who takes cake orders, and they should have given you the correct info. Just call them to arrange it (number in Post #2).

How do you go about ordering a cake for a fireworks cruise?

Call Private Dining at the resort from which your cruise departs. Numbers are in Post #2.
