You do not need to be in the room. I assume you spoke to a pastry chef? Because generally it's Private Dining who takes cake orders, and they should have given you the correct info. Just call them to arrange it (number in Post #2).

Call Private Dining at the resort from which your cruise departs. Numbers are in Post #2.
Thanks!

I called 407-938-4720 which is the number listed.
She took my information, phone # & credit card information. However, not my email # & I didn't get a conf # for the order.
Is this the number I should call back to confirm the order & ask about getting it delivered to the room?
Thanks so much for your help!

I never received an email confirmation of my Contemporary cake order. Should I call to reconfirmed?

I find it funny that they would stamp "cake" on a ticket and threaten the surprise. Why not use a less obvious stamp to symbolize a cake? A star? A Mickeyhead? The word "ekac"

I ordered 2 cakes now and never received confirmation for either. I do call back a few days prior to delivery date just to confirm the details.

I called AKL back on my cake order this morning. They answered private dining. However, it was the same person I ordered the cake from yesterday.
I asked again about getting the cake delivered to the room without us being there. She said they will not deliver a custom cake to the room without someone being there at AKL.
I have to call the private dining # & get them to deliver it so I can accept the delivery. ( so much for it being a surprise for my hubby)

Just want to share my experience ordering today:
6 inch chocolate cake
raspberry mousse filling
chocolate buttercream icing
Wall-E edible image
for delivery at Flying Fish in 3 weeks
$38

My call was answered almost immediately, and the cast member I spoke with was very friendly and easy to deal with. I didn't have to give any credit card info, just my name and ADR details. I plan on calling a few days beforehand to confirm my order. I'll share photos afterwards!

Thanks for all the helpful info in this thread!
Here's the cake I ordered for last Friday. It was delicious! The 6 inch was more than enough for four adults (we're happy with smaller slices), and we saved half the cake to eat later in our trip. 1-2 days later and it still tasted great!

Maybe she's confusing your need to be checked in with physically being in the room?

Yippee!! 3rd call finally fixed my cake delivery problem.
I just called at 10:30 pm AKL private dining # as I figured the other lady had finished her shift for the day. Sure enough this lady was like sure we can deliver your cake to the room without you being there!
Thanks lots y'all for letting me know they would do so ... Otherwise I doubt I would of called 3 times. Both ladies were very nice ... But guess the first one just doesn't know all the rules or something.
So glad to have that worked out ... Without it being a surprise I was thinking I problary would just cancel the cake order.

I just want to share the cake we had delivered to California Grill a few weeks ago! I went back and forth with Chef Brian because I wanted a Robin Hood themed cake for our 4th anniversary dinner. I had sent him the one that was on this board in the past, waited my 30 days, and at the end of 30 days was told they could only approve Robin Hood and not Maid Marian. I was bummed! But my cake ended up being better than I could have imagined! I love the arrow so much.

Here are some examples I sent him for inspiration:

And here is what I got:

It was Vanilla Cake with White Chocolate filling and buttercream. 6" and cost $68 which is exactly what I was quoted. California Grill kept it a surprise like I wanted them to do. They even found 2 green candles to add to it and brought it out and cut it for us! Our waiter did a great job.

I can't see your pictures! And I didn't realize the Robin Hood characters were ones that needed approval. Do you know why that is?

I figured out my pictures!! First time posting here...

I am not sure why they needed to approve the characters since they are Disney. My only guess is that they are pretty strategic about everything they do so maybe they just didn't want to have a certain trademarked characters released at this time.

I decided to call Pat for a Tinkerbell cake. I left a message on Sun since she is off on Sun. and Monday. I left another message for her today--Wednesday. Hopefully she will call me back.

UPDATED: Pat just called me. She is going to make a 6" chocolate cake with strawberry filling in a Tinkerbell theme with a 2D image. She quoted me $79. This will be for my dd's 16th birthday dinner at 1900 Park Fare on 12-7.

What happened with me was
I ordered a cake to California Grill last October for my anniversary also as a surprise for my husband. I asked the girl taking the order to note it was a surprise and when checking in I stopped at the first person at the desk so DH was off to the side bit. I checked us in and he never noticed the cake stamp and the staff never mentioned it. Our waiter also never said a word. He just brought it out with our desserts (we were on the dining plan). It was a great surprise for him and a great moment.

I hope they keep it a surprise for you!

So what happened with us was the first check in, fine. The second upstairs is where the woman took out the stamp right in front of my husband. It was noted in the computer that it was a surprise. I can't imagine most cakes are not surprises! My husband was standing next to me, there wasn't really any way I could get him not to be there. In hindsight I might have tried to get him to look elsewhere, but I don't know how.

If you're worried, try to think of some reason to get him to look away, drop an earring or something like a bad sitcom. Because it really ruined it and the night in general for me especially after putting so much thought into it!!! If you've never been maybe point the battle out, or find a way to somehow go upstairs ahead of him. I couldn't think of a way for it not to be obvious or practical while there.

So disappointed -- DD chose Chefs de France for her 21st birthday celebration, and we did not realize that the cake choices would be so limited and blah. I guess I am just venting. I've seen so many pretty cakes in this thread, and now we are stuck with blah. :(

EDIT: nevermind, after reading the thread further I am ordering a cake from the Swan and will bring it to Chefs De France with us. They can't do characters, but I asked for something princessy and pink and sparkly, in the flavor combo that DD wanted, so hopefully it will be pretty. princess:

UPDATE: Well now the Swan is quoting me $150 for the cake I requested -- a 10" chocolate cake with strawberry filling, decorated in a "princessy" theme, but no characters, no topper. :scared1:

They really are not set up to do custom cakes -- they offer four basic flavors (chocolate, vanilla bean, vanilla/raspberry, and strawberry shortcake), with just basic "happy birthday" writing, 10" for $80.

So NOW my plan is to order a cake locally and bring it with us on Tuesday (we only live 2 hours away, probably should have thought of that first! :rotfl:)

Anyway, just wanted to report back for anyone curious about cakes from the Swan & Dolphin.

What about Boardwalk Bakery? They are within walking distance of Swan.

just a heads up. I just ordered an 8" chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling with a 2D Elsa image for my daughters birthday from AKL and I was quoted $55 only? why did they quote you so much more?

The cake prices can vary a bit between different bakeries. Sometimes it doesn't make a lot of sense as to why. I tried to order a very similar cake once from the same bakery as we'd ordered one from prior and it came back $32 cheaper. I didn't realize until the cake arrived that it was only a 2 layer when the first one was a 4 layer. I'd never specifically asked for a 4 layer the first time so I assumed it was going to be exactly the same. I'm also convinced that it wasn't made in the same bakery because it didn't taste the same at all.
