Ok, I will pick apart..
1) Its not a misspelling of a characters name its a misproununciation.
I will use the Charlie/Shirley analogy YET AGAIN. If you were named Charlie/you sure wouldn't want to be called Shirley. The ch sounds in Charlie would be similiar to Charmaine, and Shirley (well not really close to the shou sound by the Xiou, but its sounds similiar.. we don't have an English equivalent letter wise to the shou sound)
Charmaine sounds nothing like Xiou Mei.. at least if you are saying Xiou Mei correctly. Even if you somewhat butcher it my pronouncing it Chow-may, it still doesn't sound like Charmaine.
She did not note the health dept. reference, and it wasn't moo shu pork either. Moo shu doesn't have an orange stain which reflected on the yellow shirt of Gaby. Mooshu would have more a brown stain... that s just a continuity error with the show, not the recap. I'm sure orange looked better than a brown stain on the yellow blouse.
So, its two different issues.. mispronounciation instead of misspelling... it took me a few times to get Xiou-Mei correct. At least make the effort to make it correct.. please!
Okay, well, since you don't mind correcting me, then I am sure you won't mind if I correct you on a couple of things, right?
1. You left the apostrophe out of it's in your very first sentence correcting me for using misspelling instead of mispronunciation. It's is a contraction which is why you need the apostrophe.
2. You typed mispronounciation. You actually did it more than once, which leads me to believe it is not just a typo. The correct spelling would actually be
mispronunciation.
3. You misspelled similar a couple of times. It should be
similar, not similiar.
4. You misspelled the maid's name numerous times. You spelled it Xiou Mei. The correct spelling would actually be
Xiao-Mei. I looked it up just to see if you had it spelled correctly since it is such a sore spot with you. Imagine my surprise when I discovered you not only misspelled it, you did so numerous times. I believe it takes away from your argument if you don't even have it spelled correctly yourself.
5. I disagree with you on the whole misspelling vs. mispronunciation thing. Pronunciation has to do with actually speaking and pronouncing a name. You did not hear anyone on this thread say her name. You only saw it spelled. For all you know, everybody is pronouncing it 100% correctly, which would mean it is simply a misspelling of a name.
6. People often mispronounce and/or misspell my name. It's really not as big a deal as you are making it out to be IMO. I will casually correct them if I feel it should be corrected. I am never overbearing about it. The difference between someone misspelling/mispronouncing my name is that it happens in real life. Desperate Housewives and all of the characters are fictional.
7. Last but not least, who really cares whether the health dept. reference was mentioned? It was not the most important line in the show or anything. Who really cares what was thrown on Gabby? Gabby herself called it Mu Shu Pork which is more than likely where Christmas Elf came up with that theory.
I'm sorry. I only intended to correct a couple of points but I discovered more as I went along.
Now I type very fast and I normally don't use spell-check (guess I'm lazy that way!) so I am sure you can find a mistake or two in my post. You are welcome to keep pointing it out. You should know, however, that I also catch mistakes (although I don't point any out unless provoked) and for every mistake you see in my post I am likely to notice just as many (possibly more) in yours. You obviously don't like it when people point out your mistakes so maybe it's time to get over it and call a truce. That sounds like a good idea to me. This is a thread about a fictional television show. Your energy would be better spent discussing the entertainment aspects of it. Although I commend you for caring so much about grammar and spelling and pronunciation, (I do too btw. I just don't let things like that bother me so much on a discussion board.) I do think that this is the wrong thread for it. Now take a deep breath and feel free to discuss the actual plot with us and we will probably all forget about this whole nasty thing. Ironically enough, I have a medical terminology test to study for now. We have to make sure we can pronounce and spell medical terms correctly as well as know what it means (which I can in case you are wondering)!

Have a great night!
